Wisconsin can overhaul their personnel quicker now with the portal. "Year Three" is going to be a thing of the past. There is going to be even less time given to new coaching hires. I wonder when we get to the point that guys are regularly fired after only two seasons versus three or four.

I'll stop before I frighten the children.

Since 1905? Who cares, they‘ve won a NC as recently as 1960. Bernie Bierman led them to multiple NCs in 40s. on I realize that still pre-dates most folks this board but ”most wins since 1905” doesn’t mean much considering he hasn’t raised a trophy.
I'd say that predates everybody on this board. lol

You may need to run that my OMM. Even if he wasn’t alive for it, I bet he’s well aware of what a B1G power Minnesota was back in the day. They were one of the main B1G teams who took advantage of segregation by recruiting black kids in the South in the 60s. Bobby Bell, Carl Eller & Charlie Sanders were all recruited out of the South & all three became NFL HOFers.

Played college ball at Princeton, has never coached a down in college, so let's hire him while the landscape of the sport is changing with multiple seismic shifts happening at once.

Most hires involve some risk, but Stanford hiring Jason Garrett makes no sense.

Is it at all possible that no one wants the Stanford job? I think it is easy to understand how difficult it is to win there now for a variety of reasons. The guy who won more games there than anyone just stepped down. Someone like Derek Mason did the Vanderbilt experience and probably has it better as a DC now. You could try some of the Ivy League guys, maybe, but it is opposite ends of the country and even then some Ivy League programs can probably win easier than Stanford right now.

Names that have been brought up for Purdue include:
Deno Babers - HC Syracuse
Todd Monken, Georgia OC
Jim Leonhard, Wisconsin DC
Troy Calhoun, HC Air Force
Jason Candle, HC Toledo
Kane Wommack, HC South Alabama
Sherrone Moore, Michigan co-OC

I don't see it being Leonhard or Wommack as they are defensive guys and that's not been Purdue's calling card. Monken and Moore make the most sense to me.

1. This would be an abject tire fire. Herm Edwards to ASU immediately comes to mind.

2. If this happens, NBC needs to do the right thing and bring Brady Quinn home.
Yeah definitely has Herm Edwards vibes alright or Jeff Fisch at Arizona.

Troy Calhoun can stay at AF for life, Stanford and Northwestern can fold their programs and I'm not sure who Purdue should hire.

this has to be the laziest coaching search in history

“I watched the Notre Dame game. One of the announcers used to be a coach. That was the best night of our season. How about we hire him?” - Some Stanford big cheese, probably.

Garrett is the guy you hire if your previous coach was caught in some scandal or is a scum bag like Hugh Freeze or something. He will give you some presentation and integrity but a program/team that’s gonna be soft. Lovie Smith at Illinois was the same stuff
