Card having interest in ND is encouraging. He's also from Austin, TX and that is a big step the fact that he is leaving Texas. He wants a real shot and knows he cannot get that at Texas with Ewers and Manning. ND needs to give him that opportunity.

What other schools are legit a QB away from being in the playoff discussion outside of ND? Who are we going against for these QBs?

Notre Dame is almost never at the 85 scholarship limit anyway. They’ll have transfers out, medical scholarships, etc..

But, yes, I’m sure 1, maybe 2, quarterbacks leave. Idk where Pyne is at with his school credit hours. But maybe he get his degree in the summer and transfers? Maybe Buchner takes his ball and goes home if he loses the starting job?
Buchner seems like a smart kid and he's probably close enough to his degree that he'd stick through the fall even if he's not the starter (especially given his injury history, he may well go pro in something other than football). Pyne same if he doesn't graduate this spring.

I wonder if the most likely transfer isn't actually Angeli. They didn't preserve his redshirt this year so he could be Notre Dame's quarterback in 2026.

Or yeah just give Powlus a $70K raise and call RPIII an preferred walk-on?

I wouldn't rule out Bama or UGA looking at a QB in the portal. Not sure how Ty Simpson is progressing and Milroe didn't impress me when he played, and UGA went to the portal when Fromm left.

OR A&M, Their offense was one step ahead of Iowa this season. They also got cash money.

All of Alabama, UGA, and Texas A&M have very highly ranked croots in their system. They may not be looking to take A quarterback from the portal but they may be interested in a guy like Card who is both very talented and somewhat more proven than what they have on hand.

It's part of the reason I'm not getting my hopes up about Card. He can basically choose any school in the country.

What if D.J U transfers from Clemson and is interested in ND? I know he has been inconsistent, but the arm talent is there.

So come August, they're going to have six scholarship QBs in the room? Pyne, Buchner, Agneli, Powlus, Minchey and the Transfer Savior.

6 scholarship QBs out of 85 total you have to give seems rather....excessive? I would expect a couple guys to leave. Or this is going to have to be run like an NFL training camp where actual cuts get made. Or make it like The Bachelor or Survivor or something. Stream it live.

"Drew you will not get a rose. Jimmy McGinty, MAC transfer from Grand Rapids, MI that can't hit an 8 yard out, you have immunity."

(I think I just combined the two shows.)
Im not going to go out there and advocate for specific names to be cut or forced out...

... but I would be happy if our QB room was Buchner, Minchey, Transfer Savior (Card) and Angeli next year

I’m fairly confident they preserved his red shirt. That’s why Angeli didn’t play against BC. If he would’ve played against BC and Pyne got hurt against USC, that would’ve forced Angeli to play against USC and the bowl game. That would’ve burned his RS.

Edit: I think I misunderstood what you said. My bad.

Yeah. I’d assume we will be down to 4 come August. Spring ball will decide who stays/goes. I’m hoping Angeli can be a legit #2 guy. That would make things easier. If he can be, I’d prefer Card, Angeli, Pyne, Minchey. Buchner’s skill set is outside the rest. I like my QBs similar so the offense doesn’t have to dramatically change if you have to change QBs. Obviously it also depends on the transfer in we get.

This is correct.

From those, my pick is Card. I think it's a bit of a risk in terms of limited experience, but IMO, he's the most talented of the bunch.

Sims, I'm very skeptical about his ability to throw it consistently.

McNamara, pass. Matt from ISD basically summed up my thoughts. He's not the talent to get ND to the next level. His numbers were Pyne-esque in '21.

Leary would probably be my pick if not for the injury. I just don't think the staff can trust he'll be ready to compete in spring and get things rolling.

Pratt may be a little intriguing, but his numbers don't really stand out too much against some poor competition.

TVD, nah. It's telling that a majority of his best numbers came against UNC, Virginia Tech and Bethune Cookman. Rest of his film is very poor.

McKee could also be interesting. His numbers weren't impressive, but it's kind of hard to stand out when the rest of your offense is just horrible.
If not for injury my pick is Leary all day. I just don’t know how missing the spring would do any good

Hudson Card to Notre Dame seems likely at this point. Some smoke over on the Texas 247 board.

“significant Power Five options that include Notre Dame and N.C. State, sources close to the situation tell Horns247.

(Don’t be surprised to see him at Notre Dame with three years of eligibility remaining, I’m told.)”

He would be an undergrad transfer right? We can't understate how big of a deal that would be....

Texas is actually a too good a school. Transfer doesn’t count.

Can someone give a reasonable explanation as to why ND fans are so enamored with Card? This a recruiting rankings thing? He was the backup to a Qb that had a worse season than Pyne and most Texas fans I've talked to are baffled we are interested in him.

He cost them the Bama game, cost them the game against tech, and was pretty good against a couple bad defenses.

There are proven options out there

Anybody else seen some stuff about ND being in on Riley Leonard from Duke?

Kid is legit and getting him would be a home run.
