I’m not too worried about Riley. I think he tries for the NFL a lot sooner than people think. Arizona should have an opening soon, if not this year, and how much longer does McVay stay in LA before retiring?

Fickell to Wisconsin is a good move for both. Leonard will have plenty of suitors. Cincy becomes an interesting opening. Do they try for Al Golden? Some ties to the Cincy area due to his time on the Bengals staff. HC experience.

Since ND can sit this HC cycle out, it’s getting fun.
Ooh. Al Golden to Cincy feels like a distinct possibility, now that you mention it.

Ugh…. You still have to get the kids to GO THERE. Three dozen schools have money and all of this, and are NOT located in the United States equivalent of Siberia. I understand it’s hard to understand massive change as it’s happening, but it’s IS happening to Nebraska. They will never have any advantage they can make use of again. This happens over time. It happened to Yale, it happened to Army, it happened to Minnesota. All were dominant forces in college football at one time, and all lost things over time which they will never get back. It happens. This is Nebraska now. They are now in that group of once-but-never-again powers.
Don’t know why it’s hard to understand that the right coach can sell a program if all the tools are there.

Don’t know why it’s hard to understand that sometimes schools lose football dominance for a variety of reasons, never to regain it. 🤷‍♂️

Hard not to wonder what this means for ND down the road if OSU really does move on from Ryan Day…

Yeah I've seen lots of talk now about OSU moving on from Day if he doesn't beat Michigan next year which seems crazy to me (assuming he wins 11 games again). But if that did happen does OSU pluck Fickell after one year at Wisconsin? Or do they come for Freeman if he does well next year?

Who would have more pressure: MF at ND or MF at OSU?

Yeah I’m not sure why Fickell chose Wisconsin of all places. Sure you’ll have stability but the athletic department spent less than UCONN in recruiting and had a part in Chryst getting fired. Is a slight pay raise for 5+ years worth it? Maybe he just doesn’t think that his dream schools will open soon?

It just doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade for fickell, I think if he could hold out he could get a better job than Wisconsin
I’ve been wondering that too. Cincinnati is still going to be a notch below Wisconsin when they move to the Big 12, but is Wisconsin *that* much better of an opportunity? I’m not sure.

B10 is about to expand with USC/UCLA joining. He’s limited with regard to the AAC and has taken Cincy about as far as he probably could take them. It’s a step up without incredible pressure like it would be at OSU, ND, SEC, etc.

Probably doesn’t hurt it’s gonna be a huge pay raise.

As long as he does just okay at Wisconsin he will probably still be at or near the top of Ohio State's list whenever the Day era ends. So, he might as well get himself a raise in the interim.

Cincinnati is Big 12 bound, an UC has been recruiting under the guise of that. I thought he might give it a go of what if Cincinnati can dominate the new Big 12. Probably sees a ton a of security in the contract Wisconsin is offering. Though the on field results will be a challenge. Some of the stories on Wisconsin’s commitment to football, they need more overhaul probably than you’d think. What are they giving him 8 year type deal?

This season may have convinced Fickell that he’s done what he can do at Cincy.

Wisconsin is a good job (better than Nebraska IMO) and his two dream jobs are currently held by younger men than him who are doing good enough not to get fired but not so good they’ll get hired away. So jump now and maybe in three years Ohio State is open. Especially if Fickell can beat them a time or two.

What about a PJ Fleck going to Cincy, notch down? Too good at Minnesota? Conference expansion gives them better cache?

So is there anybody worth poaching from Cincy either in this class or the portal?

A Big 12 minus Texas and Oklahoma though so they move to a slightly stronger conference then the AAC but doesn’t hold a candle to the B10 especially after USC/UCLA join.

I saw that and it can’t be right. I’d think he’ll be getting 8 minimum. Upwards of 10.

If Al Golden bolted for the Bearcats job, you could look at Mike Tressel for DC. Similarly, if TR leaves, you can bring in Gino Guidugli.

Let this be a lesson to Matt Campbell, go while your name is hot.

I'd I were an AD with an opening I'd look at Mike Elko. Good DC and did a nice job at Duke in one year.
