I’m not anti transfer of a QB. I’ve advocated for 1 - 2 in the other thread. What I don’t see why Tennessee is suddenly this model to success though. They might accomplish what we have the last 5 years.

Kirby Smart was all anti transfer portal right after that game. The coach we should look to maybe. Georgia took none. Let that cancer Jermaine Burton walk. If Freeman rides the Kirby side of the road I’ll take that. I obviously agree with any sentiment of take the right guys, but the more you take, the more you get wrong, and I don’t expect to land a Heisman finalist in the portal often. If we praise the extreme good (Hooker) I’m gonna also notice the extreme bad (Tennessee pass D)

In 2019 Kirby Smart added 2 QB's, 1 Juco transfer walk-on and 1 HS recruit. He followed that up with 1 HS recruit and 3 transfers in 2020. 6 QB's over 2 years.

2 years later the walk-on was winning a national championship.

Same model. Bring in guys that you think can play and figure it out while they're here.

If I'm Freeman, I would most definitely consider taking 2 QB's between now and next season. Ideally it's a '23 signee and a transfer but if they aren't going to land a '23 guy they like then most definitely take 2 transfers. All in on fixing the QB position takes all in moves.

Now, we won't be keeping 6 QB's on scholarship into next season but if we can get 5-6 legitimate options at QB, to compete this Spring and Summer, then we should most definitely do it.

Why would two guys transfer in?

Yeah, same with me. QBs obviously get way over drafted just because of the importance of the position. He’s probably a 3rd round talent (like a lot of 1st round QB selections).

2018 Clemson had 5 defensive starters drafted in the first round. They were just like the above three, even with the transcendent QB they wouldn’t have won without that incredible defense.

Who is left on the board for the 23 class at QB? Don't offer a kid just to get a QB in the class.

ND was successful with Coan last year, LSU is successful with Daniels this year. Grab 1 because it is a hard sell to get 2 due to playing time.

If any of our QB's leave because of a transfer it would be Buchner. Pyne has too much time invested, if I am ND I get Angeli more and more ready, and Buchner is injury prone & played 1 total year of high school football. You can bring up Buchner's ceiling and how good he can be, but I haven't seen it.

But the talent level of the second Clemson championship was way higher, especially when based on draft picks rather star ratings. True but a lot of the talent on the '18 team came about because of the '15 and '16 teams. If ND made the championship game and won a title in back to back years, our recruiting would probably take a big step up.

a #1 class every 3/4 years with some top15ish classes is still fielding some high level players. the on field product is just garbage right now.
