Watching Davis and Arnold today has me wishing ND would go with Minchey. Most view him as the higher upside guy.

Considering neither one of them play into the equation next year beyond being the backup QB and another year to develop, you have to go with who gives you the best chance to win this game, keep the momentum going, and get 10 wins. At this point in time that seems to be Angeli by all accounts.

Whats the upside to risk losing the game in order to get a guy who isnt going to be your starter, or possibly even QB2 next year a game worth of playing time?

I actually think Angeli will enter. Going to put a full game of tape out there and find himself a guaranteed starting job for next season.
I don't know if any P4 is going to guarantee him a job. But certainly he'd at least get an opportunity to compete.

Other than his knucklehead play to end the first half that I thought was going to cost me some money he played very well. The numbers don’t do it justice. He controlled that game and made some elite throws while also being the purest runner on the field.

We absolutely need to look at making a change in terms of who is developing our quarterbacks. you don’t simply just not develop or regress because you put on a Notre Dame uniform. This clearly is a coaching issue.

From what I remember we could have had him if we wanted him but just tossed him to the curb like we did Will Howard last year. Great talent evaluators. Rees never wanted anyone who would be better than he was.

Didn’t Rees also say that JaMarcus Shephard wouldn’t be a good fit at ND as WR coach?

I only watched some of the first half but Johnson missed some wiiiide open guys. Must have really improved second half because I was just thinking to myself, this guy sucks.

He did have some bad misses early which was probably just adrenaline. He made some throws later that an ND qb hasn’t made in recent memory.

He pivoted to Minchey. Which at the time, prior to Johnson’s very late ascension, was unanimously rejoiced. Hindsight 20/20 and all.

With that said, considering that Rees was on him very early in the process under a different HC, would it be that surprising if the HC change, changed the direction of this recruitment?

No guys. This is called QB development. Things that happen at universities NOT called Notre Dame.
We havent had QB development in years.
Ian Book was developed.

Didn’t basically everyone on here not want Avery? Lol
I didn't, but I've also become pretty militant about accuracy over athleticism and I'm still happy with Minchey signing.

IIRC, once Moore gave a silent ND shut down all QB recruiting and in that time Johnson stayed home where he was wanted and started getting rating bumps (clearly because he didn't go to ND). I think enough words have been typed about how ND handled Moore, but I don't think ND had a missed eval of Johnson, just more of circumstances driving decisions.

Is KSU running complicated stuff or is this kid just making plays?

The majority of the board fell back to Avery after the “Moore” thing happened. Minchey is still a prize in that class that we luckily received.

Good to hear from you dude! Hope all is well

Just working a lot with travel. The site and my phone don't like each other. It will make me re-up my login sometimes after a couple of days where as it only asks me to do that from my PC every month or two. Once it kicks me off on my phone I can only access my password email from my PC. I'm still reading but as a total lurker.

Hope you lived your best life and let all the Aggies have it in the week following aTm... and I hope you haven't seen any of those folks NIU.

We offered Johnson like a year earlier than Minchey.

We rightly prioritized Moore as he was the better prospect and he had significant interest and was supposedly a silent.

In the midst of all the crap that went down with Moore, Johnson committed to KSU

We did pivot back to Johnson and had consistent communication with him. Dad said we will continue to talk with ND until they find a QB or until we decide we are going to for sure stick with KSU.

Offered Minchey about a month after Moore committed to Oregon.

On Nov. 11th it was posted that ISD is saying Johnson is out as an option. It had been previously reported that Johnson was probably firmer to KSU than he was even back when he originally committed.

On Nov 14th Minchey commits to ND.

I don't know for sure what happened, but it sure felt like we didn't move on to Minchey and give him the green light until Johnson basically closed the door. The biggest problem was that we stuck with Moore too long and we had Freeman telling boosters publicly that we had a guy (Moore) coming to ND that was going to change college football which certainly didn't help when we had to pivot.

We had Rees now we have Gino. That’s two different coaches.
