Yes, it is. It's not close IMO.Serious question, is Nebraska really a better job than Illinois? I’m not so sure.
Much better.Serious question, is Nebraska really a better job than Illinois? I’m not so sure.
IN BASKETBALL????Serious question, is Nebraska really a better job than Illinois? I’m not so sure.
Not taking anything away from Osborne, but he inherited an already great program from Devaney. Nebraska goes back beyond the 90’s.Nebraska finished in the top 20 in AP or coaches from 1963 to 2001 in all but 2 years. During that same time period, they finished in the top 10 31 times. It was an incredible run of consistency that produced multiple national titles. I guess it depends on who you consider a blue blood, but Nebraska has a better history than most, like Penn State for example.![]()
Illinois has had one 10 win season this millennium, and the highest they've finished in the AP poll in the last 40 years is 10th. Next best finish is 20th, and in the last 40 years they've finished ranked just 6 times.Serious question, is Nebraska really a better job than Illinois? I’m not so sure.
He went 2-10 at Kansas. Why ignore it? Winning two games there he can probably perform brain surgery too.If they can ignore the record, Leopold (spelling?) from Kansas
Almost every blue blood program has endured a stretch (or three) like this and when they hire the “right” coach they tend to emerge from it.Nebraska is similar to ND in that the mediocrity they experienced can be attributed to a string of bad coaching hires. They don't have the cache or appeal that ND does to recruit a lot of the top kids, but they have the fanbase, facilities and a past to build from. Get the right guy with the right staff and it wouldn't take long for them to be a regular resident in the top 20.

Delan has HBCU HC written all over him![]()

Nah, Gruden's next stop has to be Saban's coaches who coach good but make mistakes somewhere school.I am all in on Gruden to Nebraska!
What do you base this on, apart from the obvious? He's coached at nothing but P5 schools and the NFL.Delan has HBCU HC written all over him
They are also a low key player in the NIL game. Right coach and they can be Wisconsin 2.0...will never be the 80s/90s Nebraska but can definitely improveNebraska is similar to ND in that the mediocrity they experienced can be attributed to a string of bad coaching hires. Not to mention, they crushed people. It was a fantastic run- even if the 97 Wolverines got a BS claim to half the title.Nebraska's run from 1993-1997 under Osbourne is the absolute business.
5 Conference Championships, 3 National Championships, 3 unbeaten seasons, 60-3 overall.
Very few coaches today could recapture that kind of run under even the most optimal of circumstances.
very hard to get a FBS job if you haven't been a coordinator and are a minority. Look at Tony Alford etcWhat do you base this on, apart from the obvious? He's coached at nothing but P5 schools and the NFL.
Autry Denson got the FCS HC gig having never called plays. Deeland has a stronger reputation and resume than Denson.very hard to get a FBS job if you haven't been a coordinator and are a minority. Look at Tony Alford etc
I’m not asking who is historically better. Obviously that’s Nebraska. The question is which is the better job today. The snap judgements here seem to be “yeah, much”, and it’s based on history and nothing more. I’m not so sure. Nebraska will never matter nationalally again, but their fan base thinks they should and will. It’s wholly unreasonable and unrealistic. I think Illinois is objectively the better job. 🤷♂️Illinois has had one 10 win season this millennium, and the highest they've finished in the AP poll in the last 40 years is 10th. Conversely Nebraska has had six 10+ win seasons since 2000 and several more 9 win seasons. They finished ranked most years until 2013. In fact Nebraska had a period where they finished in the Top 10 or just outside it almost every year from '63 - '02. In that period of time there were only 6 years the Cornhuskers weren't finishing in the Top 10 or just outside it. Pretty impressive.
Today I'd say the Nebraska job is still better even if both have fallen into mediocrity. Nebraska can still pull recruits from Texas and other hotbeds easier than Illinois can. Nebraska's last four recruiting classes have been 18th, 20th, 20th, and 24th. Illinois' fluctuates between the 50th-80th.
With the recruiting grounds of Chicago and St Louis, Illinois probably has higher potential, relative to expectations. And yet…I’m not asking who is historically better. Obviously that’s Nebraska. I disagree, but would like to hear why you think Illinois is the better job.I’m not asking who is historically better. Obviously that’s Nebraska. The question is which is the better job today. I mean, yeah, I pointed out historically that Nebraska has been better...but I also mentioned that they've pulled in much better recruiting classes recently and their record in recent years has been somewhat better as well (Although both come out pretty mediocre when all is said and done today). You'll have a far easier time getting talent to Lincoln in comparison to Champaign. For that reason I'd say Nebraska is the better job, even if the expectations are higher.I’m not asking who is historically better. Obviously that’s Nebraska. LOL.
Sorry, but this contract seems like a stretch. Maybe he proves otherwise, but damn.
Since the run that Clemson has been on in recent years the out of state enrollment at Clemson has increased greatly. Considering that out-of-state tuition is ~$38K and in-state tuition is ~$15K, I would say Dabo has done a nice of job of growing the university's coffers beyond just the football program. It’s a long term and $10.5M is a big number today, but if he keeps Clemson at an elite level he’ll be leaving money on the table in the back half of it. And it’s at least some insurance against the Bama job opening up. Good deal for Clemson, tbh.
