I would imagine we will see a lot of two back sets with one of them motioning out of the backfield presnap trying to find mismatches as well as lot of wheel routes, screens, and other routes out of the backfield moreso than just lining them up in traditional WR sets and asking them to beat experienced cover guys. Before Diggs went out at the B&G game he lined up at WR for a play. With Tyree's versatility could he go into a slot and the same for Gi'Bran Payne if he is ready? A 3 TE set with Mayer, Baumann, & Raridon (if he plays & is ready)?
I also wouldnt be surprised if Watts moves back over to offense, I think he should. He is a dynamic athlete and at best will be in a rotation or package sets on defense whereas he could see 15-20 snaps a game on offense if he can pick up the playbook.
You have to be explosive to win against the big boys in todays college football. You just do. Lots of 3 TE sets isnt going to get it done at the level ND needs to compete with the top echelon of teams no matter who your TEs are. It is too easy defensively to scheme against and teams like UGA and Bama have enough big bodies on defense that are also athletic enough to mitigate those sets. See Alabama game 2020-21 and Saban flat out came out and said as much.
