We should have two high level QBs in 2023 and 2024. Both Carr and Sayin were high on ND. Now we have Carr and Sayin says he hasn't heard from ND.

Rees is showing is green experience here. Perhaps if Dante wasn't committing recently he should have gone after Vizzina if he knew he had Carr or Sayin in 2024. Instead, we have Carr and his family clearling the decks for CJ. Whether he reclasses to 2023 or not doesn't matter. The other QB will be an Angeli type. (Top 200 player). I am not enamored like many with Rees.

I think this is by far the biggest threat. They really like him. Based on the past 20 years of five star quarterback recruiting, Georgia has probably done the best at analyzing. Matthew Stafford to name one. Fromm was ok. Of course they have had misses, but Matthew Stafford is the best five-star quarterback in the past 20 years in my opinion. One could argue Cam Newton but I disagree, Stafford is a badass.
Sure Stafford was amazing. Far better than Trevor Lawrence that hack from Clemson.

Since CA athletes can be paid prior to enrolling, it seems wise to avoid top CA QBs unless there is some settlement re: the legality of Pay to Play

Thought the same thing, as long as Cali is an outlier in NIL it’ll be fascinating to see how schools handle that. The most talent rich QB state will be the most difficult recruitment from the jump.

The bust rate on Cali QBs is so high that recruiting them was arguably not worth it before NIL. Now that you'll have to deal with a 3-ring circus of "entertainment" lawyers and sleazy agents constantly looking to pimp their athlete out to the highest bidder? No thanks.

I don’t think that’s been the case recently.

Would be a good research projects. Over the last ten years: (1) how highly rated have the top Cali QBs been; and (2) where did they up getting drafted?

Kinda wild that Ian Book was 247's the 58th ranked player in California in the Class of 2016. Behind such immortal Pac-12 quarterbacks as Patrick O'Brien, Devon Modster and Max Gillam.

Anyway, I too like Minchey and am skeptical we pull Novosad out of Texas in the end. I assume Minchey's recruitment has been quiet in part because of his standing commitment to Pitt and our "no OVs if you're committed" policy applying in the inverse. But maybe it's too quiet.

That is the somewhat raw data from 2012 to this years draft eligible class. The definition of bust will get debated but I bolded the guys drafted in the Top 3 rounds knowing that’s what the services would for sure count as a “win”. CJ and Bryce is the recency bias but would make a noticeable dent in there. With those 2 both non-Cali and Cali are around 20%.

So much money is going to be wasted on complete busts it’s unreal. Dante, Nico, Nelson, Arch. I bet 1 of them or none are first round picks based on the hardcore facts. The bust potential is higher coming out of high school than coming out of college.

This is why depth is always more important than a blue chip kid. You don’t miss a QB class by foolish all in policy. It’s dumb on all accounts. The can’t afford to miss mantra is bc if you miss, your chances of having someone emerge drop off substantially. As much as I love CJ, assuming he’ll be great so we can afford to miss, is ignoring the historical facts surrounding 5 star QBs. We just have to hope someone pans out through depth, teaching, and competition. 5 star QB busts are not unique to ND.

This is my thought at well, hoping after a few big busts the ones funding these large deals realize the risk to their money and will be less apt to do it and will bring some sense of sanity.

I feel like there has to be some add ons to alleivaite this. Like a base salary and then extra if you start X amount of games, have a certain TD/INT ratio, award finalist, etc.

The issue is they rank multiple QBs high every year no matter what, based off the assumption the NFL takes multiple QBs every year early no matter what. Every talking head will tell you the 2019 and 2022 QB classes both stunk compared to 2020 and 2023 but kids still get the high ranking. If the NFL bucks the trend more often like the 2022 NFL Draft you might see less QBs getting inflated as a trickle down.

I see no CBs for LSU, just Fongs to Georgia and 1 On3 prediction for LSU.

He seemed a lock for UGA but the agent think spooked things and now UGA is focusing on him as well as Jadyn Davis more than before.

Tons of rumors and CBs flying for LSU. I miss Brian....
The fact that all of Rees' eggs appear to be in CJ reclassifying and that there's no talk of him turning up the heat on other top-tier 2024 QB's, let alone any visits being set up is not surprising, unfortunately.

Gotta rip the band aid (Rees) off so he can't f*ck up QB recruiting in the 2025 class and is complacent with CJ being "the guy"

meh, I don't trust Chad Simmons but Sayin going to LSU would mean Georgia would go all in on Jadyn Davis who Michigan is banking on to be their savior.

Yea I miss Kelly too. We are definitely experiencing growing pains with Freeman overseeing Rees.

Sayin used to be really high on ND FWIW. But that was before CJ Carr commiting.

While I think CJ has the best chance to be “the guy” than any QB we’ve recruited recently. I do think we need to stop making room for “the guy”. We need to just assume we don’t have one, until one emerges. Something I’ve been saying for a while now is we need to drastically increase the competition for the QB position. Take two in a class (two legitimate QB’s). Get some transfers. Whatever it takes. The expectation needs to be set that the QB at ND is one of the top 3-5 best positions in college football. We’re not even close to that right now.
