We have a government that has failed so badly it tried to create a truth board to manage messaging. Does a school board meeting protester present a danger to the public? What about someone who is opposed to transsexual education components for kids? A red-flag law that puts the burden on the accused to clear themselves after being punished moves us closer to ‘common sense red flags’ for those not conforming. It’s a slippery slope.

From what I read the law wouldn't prevent someone like a school board protestor from getting a permit unless they had a criminal record. The bulk of this proposal is aimed at the mental health aspect.

It’s not “flippin Chicago.” This isn’t South Side gang violence. Sorry that doesn’t fit the narrative, but is one of the wealthiest + whitest areas in the country. It has low crime. It’s way outside the city. When you start equating wealthy suburbs to “Chi-raq” you have totally lost the plot.

The shooter was a disturbed, mentally unstable individual who posted videos depicting school shootings. Could’ve seen this coming from a mile away and no reason he should’ve been able to get his hands on a gun.

Imagine my dad turning on the TV today and seeing a police sniper on the roof of a place where he frequently has coffee. I heard the news and my first thought was to call him because I know he hangs out in downtown Highland Park every so often since he lives close. He chose yardwork today, to my relief.

To confirm, Highland Park is the place where Ferris Bueller, Risky Business, Weird Science and Sixteen Candles were filmed and where Michael Jordan's mansion is located....not a neighborhood in Chicago. It's actually a very affluent suburb with wealth and a high population of Jewish people. CNN is just going to call them "white", though.

I lived in Chicago at one time, so I'm well aware of Highland Park and that it's about as non South Side as can be. I wasn't making any such reference to gang violence. Just an observation of Chicago in general. No offense intended, Lax. This guy was definitely a head case and had red flags flying all around him. Unfortunately, it's hard to do much about many such people until they cross a certain line, and by then it's too late.
