Dante Moore commits in June > CJ Carr re-class and commitment soon > Dante Moore Commitment in the Winter > CJ Carr commits soon but is a 2024 signee.

That's how I'll handicap my preference. I want the guy that makes a decision and gets to campus first.

Don’t know if mentioned yet, but Carr is actually older than Moore according to the UM mods.

Yep. First guy to take it gets the job. This isn’t all that complicated.

Sampson had some encouraging words in today's II podcast. Said Freeman and Carr's body language together was notable, Carr's family spent a lot of time with the staff, and even Rees' girlfriend was talking with his mom.

"The recruitment felt closer to the end, than the beginning"

I love all the warm and fuzzies we've got regarding Carr, because the other guy we've been pining for isn't operating on anyone's preferred timeline (how dare him!), and now we've got another highly-rated dude that appears to be ND's top target, that also reciprocates said feelings...

But the big selling point is always mentioned as (1) his relationship with Tommy Rees, followed by (2) he really likes ND the school.

So what if the staff takes a verbal from CJ soon, only for things to go kooky:

- Dante Moore fully reopens his recruitment and drops ND due to the future depth chart already being crowded
- Tommy leaves for an NFL OC job, or a CFB HC job after a year where the offense and Buchner look good
- scUM gets their shit together on the offensive recruiting side and has a full 1.5 years to chip away with the "UM Legacy!!!" pitch
- scUM at some point also fires Harbaugh (or Harbaugh finds and NFL team willing to take him), and hires an offensive guru, which allows Carr and his family to look past the Harbaugh weirdness

It is absolutely ridiculous to worry about right now, but there are so many unknown dominoes that could fall between Moore and Carr... you almost wonder if it's not worth it to just hope that Sayin decides to beat everyone to the punch lol.

ISD has echoed this sentiment through their various reporting.

In the body language category and making something out of small things, I noticed Carr immediately after Kaleb Beasley had a INT kind of dapped him up after the rep (I don’t think Carr threw it). That just feels like a kid that almost was leading the campers, taking on that QB of the team or leader of the class type role to the day.

It's not at all ridiculous to worry about. History would suggest that the most likely scenario is: Carr commits, soon, for '24. Dante goes elsewhere. Sayin moves on, too. But eventually Carr comes home to sign with Michigan. And we get stuck with leftovers in both classes (one of whom leads us to consecutive 10-win seasons and blowout playoff losses).

There’s always a concern with needing to make it 18 months to ESD, but Sayin has commented on life after Rees being possible, which seems like you’d assume they’ve discussed that with Carr too. It’s about trusting Freeman will make the correct hire when that time comes.

EDIT: NVM, it actually was Carr first. I no longer have Rivals to pull the quote but here was my post:

CJ Carr had a quote here that he felt better about Freeman assuring him they are gonna hire the best guys possible if/when assistants leave.

Sounds like not gonna ignore the possibility a 2024 kid especially isn’t gonna be coached/recruited till the end by Rees

But you're still trying to hold on to a scUM legacy for a year and a half, and he's not the standard 'legacy' either. There is a some big, recent (relatively speaking) history with grandpa. He seems like the tailor-made "come save our class and our program with this new coach" recruit for scUM.

QB recruiting is always an adventure, but this is one is an extreme case of both sweating it out, and burning yourself if it doesn't work out.

You're risking two classes worth of QB's on this guy's pledge! That's crazy! But maybe worth it! Crootin'!

I still don't get how that could be the case. So Moore would be willing to follow a 5* at A&M but not willing to be a year up on a 5* coming in behind him at ND?

Oh its about to go down.

C'mon, Tommy! Secure this and I take back all the bad things I've said about you.

I have no info but it might be different because these guys probably know one another. It might be harder to come into a situation where you compete for your future career with somebody you like or dislike vs. some kid you don't know from Adam.

I don't know if it changes things for Moore or not, but it's a possibility, and it's a possibility that you're dealing with while also hoping you can hold onto a scUM legacy for more than a year. It's all very concerning, but in a really "Tommy is so close to being an elite QB recruiter, but also close to completely striking out" type of way. What a weird knife edge to be on.
