I got a hotel booked, so that’s step one. I’m assuming the solo game tickets from OSU are going to be impossible. Any idea when tix go out for this?

I will be dressed appropriately in ND colors. Only time I’ve had fans try to pick a fight with me on the basis of my team was in Austin, TX.
Been to very few SC games in LA I’m guessing

Warning: I was at the 1995 game in Columbus, and their fans were absolutely awful. They’ll try to start fights with you. The worst.

Great. Longhorn fans are the only ones I’ve seen do that crap. SC was half full and friendly enough when I was there. WAAAY nicer than Dodger fans against Padres.

I think this game just got tougher with the sad news about Haskins passing away today. Ohio State will certainly dedicate the first game of the season to his memory. RIP.

Truly some of the worst fans in the country. Their arrogance is on par with Michigan fans, except they actually field consistently successful teams. I’ve never encountered a humble OSU fan, even the seemingly meek-and-mild are quick to spout off that “Thee” bullsh*t.

I also attended the '95 game in Columbus. Have never experienced hostility like that at any other venue. Always heard Miami was pretty bad, eventually contributing to that series being terminated, but I never attended a game there.

Another odious fan base. I grew up in southern California and attended several games in the Coliseum—-just horrible people on many levels. The last game I attended there was the ND-USC game in 1992, so they likely have become worse since then.

I went to the Miami game at Soldier Field several years back when we destroyed them, and I was expecting worse. They were annoying at times, but nothing too crazy. Of course, they were also humiliated that game. I’m sure it’s been a different situation based on either the historical setting and/or location. Miami today isn’t old school Miami.
I was there too and agree, in Chicago, it wasn’t bad. In Miami when they spanked us, some of the worse fans I’ve ever seen. Even the tickets we were allotted were bad. Normally all the player’s and staff’s family get to sit together at away games but a lot of us were spread out amongst the Miami fans. Was a joke.

It was bad. I had family members that attended a game in Miami during the Jimmy days. Hurricane fans were dumping beer on Irish fans, and some were even pissed on. Just disgusting behavior, they decided never to go back after that. They spoke very well of Nebraska fans and how welcoming and polite they were, among some other fan bases they visited for away games. Nothing redeeming about Miami.

I have never heard a bad thing about Nebraska fans... I have family who are OU alums and they also said of all the old big 12 teams Nebraska had by far the best base.

As for Ohio State, I recognize their success, but I’ve truly never met a humble fan of theirs, and I’ve interacted with quiet a few living in the midwest. Maybe Freeman is the only one, lol?
Yeah, I've never even been out there and every one I've encountered out here is just way over the top.

Boston fans in general, tOSU football fans, Bama football fans... those three bases just have a knack for taking it too far and sapping the fun out of it all.

No tackling for the first few series. Then everyone can be tackled other than QB. The “thud” tackling is basically two-hands touch.

My roommate is a big Ohio State fan. He's from Columbus. He's a good guy.

The Georgia spring game and the OSU one are night and day in production quality. BTN networks just talks about the QB for 99% of the game. ESPN and even ACC Network is somewhat informative at least

Man, hate to admit it, but that offense will be tough to slow down. Speed everywhere. Just watched the spring game and they are oozing offensive talent. This will be a tough one. When was the last time we beat Ohio St.?

I know they were playing 2 hand touch but not impressed with their defense. If, big IF, ND’s offense can score may be a shootout.

If we can assert our will on the line of scrimmage it need not be a shootout. Big if, of course, but that’s the best path to winning imo

Well, OK, we're underdogs and playing there. Lets imagine that the one thing (really) that we're truly worried about (can we get at least good QB play) turns out to have been a needless concern, and that someone solidly takes the helm. What then?

In the last twenty years, OSU has only played 15 games against any non-conference teams of note during their early season schedules. (i.e. typical powerhouse scheduling.) They went 9-6 in those games. Four of those games were against teams which were once decent, but terrible at the time. So against true opponents 5-6. Five of those six losses were in Columbus. (Texas, USC, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, and Oregon.) Some of those teams brought All-American QBs (Vince Young, Baker Mayfield) but some did not.

The point is: these guys lose some early, even when favored not to. If our BIG BOYS bash around the Line of Scrimmage (both sides --- and I defy reasoning that would rule this out) AND we have a Marcus Freeman-inspired plan to limit the great receiver, why the He!l CAN't we win? We're where we always are. We can beat almost anyone if we just get Good+ QB play.

OSU shitting the bed at home last year against Oregon (who werent even that good anyways) has to give ND a lot of hope for this one.

Sadly I see this game currently playing out like the Bama playoff game a few years back. I think defensively we can hang in there, but I don't foresee us being able to score enough to balance out the solid play on defense. Just my way too early take on how I expect this to shape out.

Someone asked when was the last time we beat OSU. ... so I'll re-tell the story for those relatively new to IE.

My Dad was a senior at ND and his roommate was the great Notre Dame halfback Andy Pilney (Dad grew up in Chicago and Pilney moved there for Football reasons in high school. They were part of a small gang of good friends who went to ND together.)

We were playing that game at OSU and Dad and some other seniors went to Columbus to attend. The night before the game, they were wandering Columbus looking for a bar, and heard the Buckeye Fight Song loudly blasting out of one. Dad, not always making the best decisions (in his son's opinion later hearing these sorts of stories) led his crew into the bar. Some big OSU fan was bellowing out the lyrics.

Dad walked up to him and the music stopped. He stared the guy down, and slowly stirred the guy's drink with his cigar. He looked him in the eye and said: "I think that it would be a good thing if we all sang the Notre Dame Fight Song, don't you?" ... and so they did.

Still don't know how he got away with that (though three of my on-the-edge-of-violence brothers might have done the same thing.)

The next day Pilney rolled and ND won.

Our best strategy might be milking the clock and having long drives by running the football and having our OL go to work.
