I don't know how you can trash the special teams when there are are obviously no runbacks allowed. There a difference between kicking and special teams.

The kickers suck. We don't know a damned thing about the rest of the special teams.

The guys who will compete for the punting job in the fall aren't here yet. But the kickers are.

The kickers sucked today.

I can remember days where I'd have bought Doerer a bus ticket back to NASCARville.

Thank you for your service but JD Bertrand is gonna return to third string MIKE and WILL. Junior and Kollie are your backups.
My brother and I both discussed this during the game. Definitely glad to have PK, and JR

Pyne is a kid I won't knock on he's 5'8 maybe. But I won't hear any Pyne for QB1 nonsense. With all the practice reports about his decision making and interceptions it's a non argument. ND definitely needs to see if they can secure a serviceable backup or someone to push Buchner. Pyne isn't QB2 material.

Really happy with the defense. That said, it's easy to key in and tee off, when the passing attack is a non factor.
Steve Angeli (hope I spelled correctly) may be the back up. Gotta keep in mind though that both teams were mixed roster.

Biggest takeaways for me besides QB and special teams play…

Tosh Baker is still not very good. Allowed a sack and several pressures and had a hold when he was beaten badly

Price is going to be good

Jayden Thomas looked good

D-line is legit…lots of talent and depth

Jaxson Dart. JT Daniels. Kedon Slovis

Could of had 2 out of the 3 for sure. Possibly 3/3...

No reports stating Buchner lit the world on fire this spring.

Anyone who tells me to chill or relax. Fugg off lol

Chill. Also Jaxson Dart was terrible today for Ole Miss.

In fairness I was joking. Mostly. But today was worrisome. I just watched the USC spring game. So maybe that got me going lol

I agree. Would've obviously been better if Pyne had showed up and looked decent. Just puts more pressure on needing Buchner to be good, though I do believe he will be.

Thomas looked good.
Colzie didnt.

I think Mayer and Style might get 200 catches between them this season.

Has anyone checked on ulukinatme to make sure he's ok?

In all seriousness, the defense looked very good today. Offensively...there were a lot of struggles.
Offensive line had four false starts, the running name never got going, and protection wasn't great. Fire Harry.
QB play was up and down across the board. All three QBs started slow, but Pyne put together two very good 2 minute drills at the end, and Angeli and Powlus both did some good things in the 4th quarter. Loved Angeli's gutsy final play to get the score, although in a real game situation I hope we burn the TO and do better clock management lol. Hard to gauge where we're at here with the mixed rosters and the guy getting all the #1 reps being out, we have no idea what we really have here.
WR position still has a long, long way to go. Aside from Jayden Thomas who had a great game I think Colzie had a couple receptions and Lenzy had a couple, really disappointing. No Styles at all I think, and that was surprising...maybe we're keeping him in the back pocket for tOSU? I really hope so, because the WRs as a position group weren't exactly stellar.
RBs weren't bad, I'm not going to knock them for poor OL performance. Couple good screens for Price and Diggs, Price obviously getting the big one. Didn't see Tyree get much action, maybe we're keeping him close to the vest too. Lot of talent there, but right now I still think Tyree and Diggs will be the starters unless they do it differently under the new regime.
No worries really about TE unless MM goes down. Mayer is Mayer, he's going to dominate. Would have liked to see more from the other guys, although Yanoshak (Who?) did get one of the TDs.

I'm not going to do a breakdown of each defensive position, but I thought they looked fast and sharp. I hope we stay healthy at LB this year, because their play seemed markedly improved from 2021. DL had great pressure. I'll just say this: Ryan Barnes was playing like a pissed off teenager. Back to back plays he put guys on the sidelines, then gets a questionable targeting call after? Like the physicality though!

Also: Does Doerer have any eligibility left?! Wait, Polian, come back!

-Price seems like he could be the real deal
-We have a lot of talent on defense and I think the younger DBs have quite a bit of potential
-Angeli looked really polished for someone who has only been on campus for a hot minute
-I love everything about how Marcus Freeman handled this weekend and this game. He has great instincts and leadership qualities, very easy to root for. That game was somehow interesting and competitive despite Pyne taking a dumb on everything in the first half and having depth QBs in the second.

Thoughts:
- Pyne sucked (duh) and what’s with the balls to expose a shaved flabby white belly?
- Sideline coverage was a shit show. Every other word from a player or coach cut out. Shameful, don’t know if that was dopey young girl reporters not holding down the right button or what but it was embarrassing as F.
- Angeli will and should get more PT than Pyne. Pyne should be thinking about leaving after that. If he somehow Hd to start a game I don’t know if I can remember a lousier QB TJ start a game for ND.
- Mills is next level scary huge! Hoping he can channel some TJ Watt.
- Lots of talent all over the D.
- Love Freeman getting on Marist for a fluke interception. Told him to act like he’s been there before. This is ND not Miami dog.
- have heard very little on here about a Estime. Guy was bowling guys over old school. He should stay between the tackles but he’s a legit power back weapon. I could see Diggs and even Tyree putting up lower numbers and reps than last year and from what I saw today I’m Ok with that.
- Punters we’re absolute trash. Sure hope help is on the way. Are we using scholarships on any of the guys we saw today?! Kickers might be able to make PATs. One of them that came over from Ark st doesn’t look too bad but we need better. Doer should have been able to get us a win in the bowl game but choked.
- Jayden Thomas looked very good. Looks like some depth at TE and I’m still bullish on our WR group of someone can throw it to them.
- we need TB to be what he was last year but a little better. With him out there our running game will dynamic. I predict he will break 1000 yards and so will two RBs.

I think Estime has quite the fan club here, it’s in his profile thread.

3 1000 yd rushers this fall? Tony Rice, Ricky Watters and Rocket couldn’t produce 1 and they didn’t pass like Buchner/Rees will. Be lucky if there’s 1.

Yeah, I know the OL isn't where it will be in the fall, but I don't see two 1000 yard rushers either, much less three. I'm really curious what kind of offense Tommy puts together this season. Lots of young talent, but there's still a lot we don't know about TB and the passing game may struggle if the WR group is anything like what we saw today. We might need a strong running game to be successful actually.
