I’m being slightly provocative (not sure if I fully agree with that stance). That said, the only diplomacy that Putin respects is the threat of defeat. Putin is also a somewhat rational actor and knows a full-scale war against NATO spells disaster for Russia. If you controlled the airspace then Ukraine would potentially have a chance here.

I think there’s a reasonable argument that upside outweighs downside.

The more I've thought about it, I think you've got a good idea about a NFZ in Ukraine and that being a low-ish risk way to make a stand. Russia had a plane shot down by Turkey awhile back and didn't do shit.

I interpreted his post as a commentary on the general public of Ukraine vs USA. I don't think it was a commentary on the ability or commitment of the military of each country.

The more I've thought about it, I think you've got a good idea about a NFZ in Ukraine and that being a low-ish risk way to make a stand. Russia had a plane shot down by Turkey awhile back and didn't do shit.

I don’t think it has to be NATO. I think the UN GA is able to implement a NFZ. They did it in Iraq during the gulf war. Th GA could vote and establish it forcing this a ground war. Sorties could be patrolled by any country with an Air Force.

Russia shutting off energy supplies to Europe may create social unrest around Europe. Gives Putin a chance to increase support/approval amongst Russians. It'll be framed as a USA vs Russia conflict and some nations may jump at a chance to align themselves with Russia, namely China.

I think most normal people just want something done to reduce casualties and suffering but that's probably not what matters to the people in charge. What matters is whether or not Ukraine is strategically worth it for NATO. These guys taking bullets are cannon fodder and it's disheartening to watch.

He's a man that someday might be tested in a way he cannot comprehend right now.
He might pass. He might not ever be tested and that's ok too. It's America and everyone is created equal.

I remember being in basic training with some of the baddest men ever. Thinking that I was glad they were on my side and I'd hate to face them in a dark alley. I sized up everyone because I was forced to trust these men with everything. I wasn't afraid (too young to truly comprehend what might happen), but I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to meet their standards. Hell I was scared, but not terrified. There's a difference.
Long story short, some of the baddest guys were the ones that broke down, froze, and cried. They lost no respect amongst us, but it was eye opening. They're still my brothers, but it taught me not to judge anyone before putting them in the fire.

No one knows how they will respond when the furnace gets cranked up for real.

Me? I've been tested in a way that not everyone can say they have. I passed the test and sleep peacefully knowing that I won't freeze up if I'm ever forced to protect my family.

Got a feeling its going to be the "end him by force" option sooner or later. Putin doresn't appear to give a shit about what anyone else thinks. And odds are it'll be WWIII or close to it. Don't think anyone will join in with Russia but if China does god help all of us.

Of course if Trump is President there will be no war, just redistribution of land, resources and power. In the wrong direction.
