So the sample size is one game less than 10 passes and we’re eliminating the game he didn’t do that well from discussion. You’re gonna ride with that?
I don't know what else to tell you.

Pyne was lauded for how far along he was, even as a freshman. He also impressed in the limited action he was thrust into, considering how abysmal the OL was in front of him.

But the circumstances surrounding the starting QB isn't the same. Wimbush flat out couldn't make basic throws. Coan never had that issue, thus only had to rely on Pyne when Coan got hurt.

Book looked solid as a sophomore in 2017, but he had a much better situation around him when he was thrust into action. They had a Joe Moore winning OL, a good stable of backs and a solid group of receivers. Pyne was thrust into action behind a horrible performing OL.

Book as a sophomore =/= Book as a junior/senior/5th year. Also, we don't know how good he'd be playing behind a significantly worse OL than he had at any point during his career.

Lax started this thread as follows:

"How would people feel about a thread that is a safe space to share conjecture and rumors that might be true but isn't well sourced or confirmed? Only limitation would be speculating on disciplinary/criminal conduct."

And with LBJ on TV, and still working my way through Caro's masterpiece, this "random" story came to mind.

LBJ was still pre-Congress, right there in the Hill Country, but starting his climb.

He was in a tough race (in Texas, in that belle epoque, they ALL were)

LBJ, crude as can be, was sitting with his "political consultants"

He announced "I am going to accuse my opponent of having sexual relationships with barnyard animals."

His youngish, Austin educated consultant shrieked :

"You can't do that. It is not TRUE!""

LBJ leaned in and reset the rules:

Arching an eyebrow

"I know it's not true, young fella, I just want to see him DENY it."

might be true, might be apocryphal

You’re original statement I took issue with was “Pyne would be giving us pretty much what Book gave us”. Nothing you’ve posted to me meets a threshold to just throw out that type of statement, and you’re just ignoring half a tiny sample size, half the reports on Pyne and picking out things like his NFL performance to justify minimizing Book’s career as a starter. If Pyne could just help win about every game over multiple years he played is where you’re setting his likely outcome, then yeah I think we’re not gonna agree.

Fair enough. Let me clarify.

What I meant from my original comment was that Drew Pyne has a similar floor and ceiling that Book had. So, provided Pyne continues to progress as expected, him starting gives you a guy who can win you the games you're expected to win, but he's not likely going to put you over the top against the best teams.

That's why I wouldn't be thrilled if Pyne does win the job, because then we're essentially having to settle on a lower ceiling for a higher floor.

Grandma, bro, grandma. Sorry, not sorry,
Bless grandma's heart. And grandma's have their own value system.

Again, bless her heart.

But when push comes to meet shove, as my birth family, current family, and extended family know, we follow Christ and cherish the issuer of grandmotherly good will. there is room in people's hearts to do both.

Best of luck with that. But my grandma is right in this case. 🤪

The guy entering the draft?
I'm ragging on Wiltfong (and the rest of the industry, but mainly him since people insisted his CBs were impeccable) for falling for the most obvious "oh I'm gonna SHOCK THE WORLD with my pick tomorrow", when everything said Kaindoh wanted to stay in Maryland. So instead everyone threw CBs on the #2 team at the time, ND, and had egg on their face when Kaindoh verbally committed to the Terps. Of course he later flipped to the Nolels and had a solid career by the end of his years in Tallahassee.

Can you all just STFU or take this to the Pyne thread?

O’Malley said ND tried to get Josh Downs to transfer here in January and it was close

You mean he ghosted us after we offered $750k on arrival, $1M first year, and $20k per month?!?

I’d expect the $500 k handshake was Oregon. Seems consistent with how their recruiting class came together this year.

Crazy that he was supposedly so in love with ND that a minimum of 250k couldn’t land him because he became unappreciative. He could have probably started next year. SMH.

ND was going to tell Brady Quinn and Co. to setup $500k in NIL deals for his freshman rwar? How believable is that?
