One of my favorites in this class.

Dad and Grandpa (Deland McCullough and Sherman Smith) are both Miami U legends.

If you don't know the amazing story, click on the link below.

He and CJ Hicks are both Isiaih Simmons types. I'll take both.

Committed to Ohio State in August. Damn.

Dad is back at IU coaching RB. His pops was legit at Miami, OH back in the 90s.

Dad's story is one of the more amazing human interest stories I've seen. Incredible.

Was expecting his lil bro Daeh to get a professional courtesy offer yesterday. He's been a highly ranked CB who's gonna end up a hybrid LB.

Tom will take them anyway he can get them. With a couple more, this is the kind of kid that can get them over the hump

His younger brother Daeh committed last week, he's a 4*, Top 75 overall, safety/LB in '23.

His older brother Deland Jr, is also transferring to IU from Miami. He was a 3* in '18 or '19 and played with Graham Mertz in HS. He didn't play much for the Redskins.

Bump.

His primary recruiter at IU? Well pops, duh. Maybe as notable, his primary recruiter at OSU? Al Washington.

Hmmmm.

I hate to be this guy with zero evidence but I’m 90% sure Dasan removed IU stuff from his Twitter in the last hour. I checked it earlier and it’s different picture and bio I’m pretty sure.

So what are rules since he signed NLI. Indystar says he can't transfer until after season. Is that right?

No way Freeman lets this slip away. The Al Washington angle is also very notable. Luckily for us (in Dasan's case), if Deland leaves while Dasan's still in school, he probably wouldn't transfer and sit a year.

I know this is all purely speculation right now, but he had to have chosen IU because of his dad right?

Anyone who's better than me at evaluating recruits, how does he compare to the '23 guys that are on our board that we're trying to recruit? Would it be worth getting him to transfer and basically defacto be a '23 recruit after sitting a year??

He's an early enrollee. Probably means he has to wait until the semester is over, but if he hasn't played he may be able to transfer then.

Dasan, who starred at Bloomington South last year as an edge rusher, signed with the Hoosiers in the 2022 class as a linebacker and is the highest-rated player ever signed by Indiana in the recruiting service era. Because he signed a national letter of intent, he is prohibited from playing anywhere other than Indiana for the 2022 season, but can transfer after that.

I obviously don't know the rules just this is the only thing ive seen reported. Now, I am with Irish#1 that I thought if kids EE'd they could leave in summer as a transfer. But is he ineligible for year 1 then?

It would be hilarious if the only kid who can't insta transfer in this era of "the portal" is one who would come to ND from Indiana. Especially after Vanderdoes got out of his NIL for a sick grandmother and so much other nonsense.

Can he transfer but not play? Just, like, practice and take a redshirt?

I’d think considering he had an offer, Dasan should qualify, unless he didn’t stay on the path expected upon offer. At that point he should finish the semester and inform by I believe May 1 he plans to transfer. He will have to apply for a waiver though I think to be eligible which is a crapshoot.

Pretty sure they are exaggerating with the word prohibited lol. He can transfer but not play or transfer and apply for a waiver and play.

But what happened to the narrative that the NCAA is afraid to do anything to constrain player movement because of the possible lawsuits?

I'd kinda be surprised if he couldn't. The whole theory behind the present transfer portal madness is that players shouldn't be more restricted than the coaches they play for. In this case, a coach who also happens to be his dad just took a better job at ND. Seems like an obvious candidate for a waiver.

If it doesn't happen, I'll assume it's because ND insisted on punching itself in the dick again by strictly following rules that no one else is playing by.

I’d be curious if bringing his boys with him was part of freeman and Rees pitch to him when they offered him a job

Both enrolled sons have pretty much squashed that idea on Twitter at this point.

I’d be skeptical this isn’t a temporary response. It’s not something he can do anything about for now.
