If these are the scenarios:

- Stay at IU, permanently
- Transfer ND in the summer, waiver given
- Transfer ND in the summer, no waiver, sits out
- Stay at IU for a year, transfer to ND
- Stay at IU for a year, transfer elsewhere

I think the only option less likely than A might potentially be C.

We'll see after Indiana doesn't make a bowl again. Don't need him for 2022 anyway.

Yeah transferring right now is basically out of his hands, so this earns him some goodwill on campus for at least a little while.

I'd kinda be surprised if he couldn't. The whole theory behind the present transfer portal madness is that players shouldn't be more restricted than the coaches they play for. In this case, a coach who also happens to be his dad just took a better job at ND. Seems like an obvious candidate for a waiver.

If it doesn't happen, I'll assume it's because ND insisted on punching itself in the dick again by strictly following rules that no one else is playing by.
I believe the rule change was you get one freebie but there are now no waivers or exceptions after that. The point was probably that the NCAA couldn't review these on a case-by-case basis.

Both enrolled sons have pretty much squashed that idea on Twitter at this point.

Deland McCullough II has no chance to come to ND other than as a grad transfer plus he not seeing the field at ND.
As for Dasan , he'd be a great pickup to add as a Vyper prospect with ND losing both after the 2022 season.

Well I hope Dasan takes Freshman Comp, a foreign language and at least one theology class at IU so the Dean looks kindly on his transfer application.

Could graduate early and grad transfer too. The nice thing about dad working just down the road is they're close enough to visit still. I'm sure he can even go during the BYE to see the boys if one is playing.

All 3 brothers were supposed to play at IU.

Older brother medically retired .
Younger brother flipped to Cinci.
IU is a good academic school.

This has to happen right?

He's flashed a few times against ScUM today. Made a big stop for a loss in the first half.

Unfortunately, ScUM looks like they are wearing down the Hoosiers in the fourth.

God i hope so.
Here's something to debate, would you rather have a transfer in Dasan McC, fresh off a freshman all American season where he had 10 sacks or a true freshman Keon Keeley? Hard not to opt for proven experience...

A good hypothetical and I’d say if Dasan keeps this pace, I’d go him as well

Does Tom Allen get fired if IU goes 4-8? I see one more win on their schedule. Could make Dasan more inclined to transfer out and join dad.

Would love him in the fold - is he a true OLB or sort of a hybrid between OLB and vyper/edge rusher?

He’s playing their version of Vyper. He’s a lot leaner build than we’ve had there

We are probably expecting his dad to leave after this year right?

Transfer to Notre Dame…is it even possible
He's a freshman, so yes, it's very possible.

The issues with transferring into ND are more regarding upperclassmen that haven't graduated.

I don't recall Gilman or Carlisle (both freshman transfers) having much issue transferring in. They have a much easier time getting on track to graduate going into their 2nd semester of their freshman season than they do as a sophomore or junior.

I mean, you never know, but I wouldn't say we're expecting it.

I don't see him leaving unless it's for a coordinator role. Keep in mind, he turned down coaching Barkley in New York to come here.

IIRC the rationale for him returning to college football was that he wanted to be a head coach and had determined it'd be easier to get there in college than the NFL.

So yes he has ambitions, and OC is the next logical step. But also he has ambitions. So, not likely to leave what seems like a pretty good spot for just any OC job.

Begs an interesting question.... if Rees does leave ND after this season, do we have someone in-house that could be a prime target to replace him? Or does Freeman go outside the program?

Parker has the experience, but was demoted at WVU in favour of Graham Harrell.

Stuckey is fairly new to coaching in general, and McCullough, although he has an extensive coaching history, has only ever been a position coach.

If Freeman were an offensive-minded coach, maybe you promote McCullough. But I think in this scenario you go outside and hire someone with more experience designing an offense and calling plays. (Even Parker has just one year under his belt as an OC.).
I doubt they'd have any trouble finding good candidates.

I doubt it. IU has typically been very patient with their coaches. Aren't they also dealing with a lot of injuries?
