My gut tells me that he was trying to get fired towards the end here. He emotionally couldn't handle losing and dealing with hard questions. So what's the quickest way to get fired, stir up a bunch of crap in the locker room to the point that it's so toxic that the owner has to do something. Urban walks away with a huge payday. I don't think he goes back to college either.

Some great posts in here.

I am under the impression that he probably didn't become a sociopath until Florida. He was probably a hard working assistant and HC at BGSU and Utah, while still likely a total asshole. Once he got to Florida, the big time pressure got to him and he morphed into what he is now. I'd venture to say it got even worse at Ohio State and by the time he left there he was pretty dead inside.

I agree he'll be back in some form, either as a college HC or as a TV pundit. I don't know how anyone can possibly take him seriously now and any remaining ND fans that lobby for him to ever become head coach of the Fighting Irish might as well be Russian bots because there's virtually nothing left inside of you if you'd even consider it. One way or another, he'll coach again. That's just how the culture of the sport is, now more than ever. Chances are, there will be guys crazy enough to work for him and players crazy enough to play for him. It's the nature of the beast these days.

I am very curious as to the kind of people that would still carry water for this guy now. I can't imagine he has many defenders at this point. Nobody is claiming he's been "cancelled." As someone said previously, this might be the first time in his career he didn't have everyone covering for him. He's now had to face the music twice: resigning at Ohio State and getting fired in the NFL. Buyer beware.

I don't think any of this is a joke, by the way. Urban's ego will have him wanting back in the saddle, Texas is tired of losing to the point they don't give a shit about his history, and UT has more money than they know what to do with. I seriously think there's a 50/50 shot that Urban is the head coach a year from now. There is no better fit in CFB.

I agree. The kicker should have punched him in the mouth.

I think he is done coaching. He has now showing at both the college level and NFL he is a terrible person.

He didn't get fired from Ohio State though; he retired, citing health reasons. Besides, Urban wins, which makes dang near anything forgivable in CFB. Heck we had Koon begging for Urban to be the next ND head coach. He'll be available, and Texas is desperate. And of course we gotta remember that they're moving to the SEC...

100% I was not joking.

If Ryan Day goes to the NFL, is there even a shot he goes back to Columbus, or do they just hire Fickell?

The idea of Meyer at Texas just seems so logical at this point. You have to assume they'll run Sark out for anything less than playoffs.

100% I was not joking.

He cited health reasons at UF. At OSU he was dealing with the assistant who beat his wife and Urban basically lied to cover it up. He was strongly encouraged to step down or be fired.

Imagine if Khan had done this on November 30. Oh boy!

This isn't the last we'll see of him. No way does he leave coaching like this....

Some mid tier school will pick him up. Not sure if a top university will want the baggage right off rip.

Urban supposedly kicked a kicker and berated him. Notice he didn't kick a linebacker or TE or a tackle. Surgeons would still be looking for parts to sew back together.

And how many guys in coaching are "a terrible person" Lots of them. Somebody who wants to win will hire Meyer. And he'll take it if he thinks he can win there. It won't be in the NFL. Maybe not even power 5, but he'll be back, its in his blood.

I can't see urbs coaching again unless he were to get offered another NFL job (lol!), or a handful of college jobs where he'd have the resources, leash, and money to be a perennial juggernaut (and to satisfy his ego). I can't see him going back to, say, Bowling Green because, ya know, he loves coaching and molding young men.

Dude loves himself too much to try something beneath him.

lol didnt lambo classify it as a 5/10 on the pain scale. come on. surely urban tapped him with his foot to get his attention or some shit.

I am not saying this dude isnt a piece of shit but I will take Lambo's report of getting punted with a grain of salt.

He'd have been much better off staying at Fox. He would've had his pick between LSU, Oklahoma, USC, and Florida.

No way will he take a G5 job. He might be an ass bucket, but he ain't dumb. He slummed at BGSU and Utah. UF and tOSU are ivory towers of college football. He's going to want resources. He's not getting that at Coastal Carolina or Tulane.

I'm telling you, whoever said Texas will fire Sark at 7-5 and hire Darth Meyer is 100% on point. They'll do it because they can and they could care less about the money or the baggage.

What about a G5 with resources, a willingness to overlook character issues, and a drive to make themselves into a national power?

Give me Urban at Liberty, or give me death!
