Why on earth would you leave Oregon for Miami?

According to Miami forums, they have a group of guys with piles of money that are willing to buy their way back to national prominence - stadiums, NIL deals, facilities, blah blah blah.

Apparently that's all you need is a lot of money to win title after title. Just ask Oregon with NIke, Okie State with T boone pickens, Texas with all their big money etc.

No doubt that money being used properly will push them in the right direction but they'll need more than money here. This is all going to take a ton of time to establish and these big money guys who like the smell of their own farts can be as problematic as their money is useful. Cristoball is connected to south Florida and knows what needs to be done to pull talent in south florida. I'm sure they'll be greasing high school coaches and whoever else very soon. This is far from a lock to work, imo.

College football is more interesting when good programs are actually good, but Miami is the exception for me. It's just a trashy program top to bottom, and their fans are completely delusional. Wanted to puke when they beat our ass a few years back. I love watching them suffer through mediocrity more than anything. I hate when they're good and it's not as fun when they're really bad. There's a sweet spot with them that I prefer where they're good enough to give their fans hope but bad enough to be as irrelevant as Central Florida. That's where I like them. Petty, I know.

PJ Fleck is one of the most unique hires, ever, really. If you’re following numbers, I’d say HC hire has HC/OC/DC experience is heavily favored by the numbers trend.

True on Fleck. He, like Meyer, took a MAC job no one wanted and didn't have experience as a coordinator. I ASSUME no one wanted those jobs, anyway, but Fleck walked into a pretty bad WMU program as Meyer did at BGSU.

Also true that HC hires lean far more favorably to white candidates. Right now anyway.

I mean, he's tried getting this job before. He played there. He's got a strong resume despite never having been a coordinator. They went with McElwain and Bobo who were OCs, then went into the garbage bin for Addazio where they really fucked around and found out.

This job was filled in less than a week with the 58 year old coach of Nevada. It isn't going to happen for him. He either needs to look at other G5 jobs or dare I say FCS? Like Eric Bienemy, I don't know what the issue is for Tony Alford when it comes to being hired as an HC. Ohio State isn't in the playoff, so we can't use that reason.

This is spot on. Every word.

Seems like another program that time has forgotten. For a long time they thrived on the in state talent, most of it local from the Miami area in Dade County.

Now UGA's RB went to Miami Central HS and these kids can go to plenty of SEC schools where they'll win and get drafted into the NFL. Miami was an NFL hotbed for three decades. Not the case anymore.

Cristobal has HC experience but apart from that I don't know how he doesn't suffer the same fate Randy Shannon did.

This would be good

Sitake played at BYU, so maybe he is fine staying, but you'd have to be crazy not to at least call him. If he says no, fine, but call him so he can at least do that.

I think a lot of PAC 12 rivals are happy he didn't end up at Washington.

Perhaps there is something these programs feel prevents Tony Alford from leading a college G5 program like Colorado State. Same with Eric Bienemy in the NFL.

Alford has coached alongside Super Bowl winning OC Charlie Weis, Brian Kelly, Urban Meyer and Ryan Day. He may not have picked up anything along the way that makes him an attractive candidate to his own alma mater.

Going from Nevada to Colorado State for Norvell is interesting. He's losing the QB1 to the NFL, though.

Could be he's just bad at interviewing.

Possibly.

You'd hope that this kind of feedback is given to candidates and if it isn't, these guys had better ask for it. It is constructive criticism and really not that big of a deal for the administrations to answer if they turn a guy down

Become white and get fired from at least one other job. Best guess, though.

It isn't going to happen for him. Needs to look elsewhere.

Oregon loses HC and OC. Clemson loses AD, DC and Elliott is said to be in the running for UVA and or Duke. Some serious reboots happening to some pretty big players.

This fascinates me, and is the reason i believe that the NBA got to racial neutrality first.

\(and my proof proffer may be too :"Ancient" for the young'uns

there used to be guys like C.tton Fitzsimmons, Gene Shue and Kevin Loughery who would get job after NBA job despite, well, sucking, or being mediocre on their good days.

then, a couple of decades later. guys like Gene Littles, Lenny Wilkens (Who was a GREAT PLAYER and yeah, I saw him play college ball when he was at providence) and David Fizdale kept getting jobs.

Now that, THAT is progress in equality of opportunity, if not great basketball.

Pro sports are the worst. The habit seems to have slowed some in MLB now that elite Ivy Leaguers are running front offices, but it seems like the same guys over and over again in the pro North American sports.

College football and men's basketball isn't much better. You'd better be in the right good ol' boy network or have tremendous timing. Saban rehabbing these coaches is no joke.

Mike Locksley is proof there is progress. Even CU hired Karl Dorrell, who for 13 years between HC jobs in college was an NFL position coach. Talk about coming out of nowhere.

Can we all admit Miami gets a big fat F for the way they have handled this whole drama down there? I can't feel sorry for a guy walking away with millions, but damn, this is Lane Kiffin style shit in reverse.

It seems like par for the course for college football.

They snagged the AD and HC they wanted. Good for them. The end justifies the means.

So Bill Bedenbaugh at USC is maybe not as confirmed as was thought. Wonder if he is hearing Venables out. Go OU in the case (Go Freeman? while we are here)

No one is in charge there. They fired the AD weeks ago, still don't have one and now all the big money boosters are steering the ship. It's like first grade with no teacher in the room.

Apparently Scott Frost has interviewed Jeff Quinn for Nebraska's open OL position.

Not sure Frost really wants to be successful at Nebraska.

Heard Brady Quinn state that both Miami and USC were looking to move on last year, but couldn't get someone they wanted so they held onto Diaz and Helton for the time being.

Miami is really screwed up. Diaz wasn't setting the world on fire but it looked like he had things trending the right way. Hiring the HC before giving the AD input into the hire tells Cristobal he's got more leverage than the AD. Don't know what kind of a guy he really is, but could make for some interesting behind the scenes discussions.

Is Pat Haden still the AD at USC???

I'm starting to think Brady is taking the same approach. Commentary for a few years and then AD at ND.

Do what Kelly did...offer them multi year deals

Even then our OC was calling plays for the first time and coming from Memphis and our DC was coming from the first good season of the Clawson era at Wake where one more bad season might have gotten the whole staff fired anyway. We weren't really shopping on the top shelf.

Define top shelf, though. Long and Elko were both rising in the profession. Those two hires changed the trajectory of the program. Neither guy was from Grand Valley State, which at the time was pretty massive. I recall being very enthused about Elko. He'd won the MAC at BG with Clawson with a very good defense and was a rising coach in the profession at the time.

These were not established millionaire power five coordinators at the time, but they were both solid hires at the time and even in hindsight ended up setting the program down a positive course.

Ohio State just poached Okie State's DC:

[TWEET]https://mobile.twitter.com/ByPatForde/status/1468347537052639235?s=20[/TWEET]

Can't find anything about whether he'll be coaching against us in the bowl or not, but won't be good for the Pokes' morale regardless.

Appears that Quinn did NOT get the job in Nebraska. Also of note, Mark Whipple resigned from Pitt as OC and is likely to join Nebraska.

Gary Patterson (ex from TCU) is making the rounds...UT and Texas Tech apparently have talked to him. Would be a nice hire as a DC or D analyst. Was known for good D.
