I said originally “Maybe not a recent fired coach but if it is Freeman and ESPECIALLY if Elston leaves, you need someone that’s been around the block.”

That was not an endorsement of Mullen, GP etc. It was an endorsement of some level of experience on the staff, to which you dismissed as experience < talent and brains.

Put me in the camp that would love to see them hire Cutcliffe in some capacity. Bill Rees and Cutcliffe would be great for Tommy as he sets out to make this his own. Keep McNulty and Taylor. LFG!.

Just look at Nick Saban's Reform School for Former HCs Who Can't Culture Good and Wanna Learn To Do Other Coaching Stuff Good Too.

Wonder since only Devin Moore has decommited so far if that is a good sign that Marcus Freeman is getting the nod as HC, or are they just waiting to see who gets hired?

Cutcliffe isn't being mentioned solely bc he's available. He's been incredibly successful developing QBs, and we have a QB that desperately needs to be developed. Nobody thinks he's coming here to lead the program.

I would like to see what Rees can do without Kelly looking over his shoulder. I'm guessing Freeman feels the same way.

By all accounts, Rees communicates well with the kids and they like him. He's developing into the role at a fast and high rate, and now with Kelly gone, if he gets to do more in terms of autonomy that process may accelerate. Further, if he can evaluate recruits more freely that is only going to help the overall big picture.

Dude, we can do better when it comes to recently fired people. Better yet, how about building a staff with younger and more talented guys that are hungry and want to get after it rather than just sliding into their next paycheck.

I'd hire Jerrod Johnson as QB coach in a blink before David Cutcliffe.

I couldn't name a single QB he had while he was at Duke. I have always liked Cutcliffe, but not for where this program is and needs to go at the present time.

Jerrod Johnson, GJ Kinne, Keenan Bailey are all guys who never coached a Manning that could drop in and do as good or better at coaching up QBs. Or Rees gets to do it without Kelly lingering around.
