Colin Coward mentioned he's hearing Lincoln Riley as a candidate for LSU. He doesn't believe them, but he's heard them. Given OU is going to the SEC, I'm not sure that would be a wise move. OU administration and fans will give you a longer leash than LSU.

Riley has a really nice contract, so he could use LSU to get more or go to LSU for more. Maybe that's the plan here.

The last three guys LSU hired were 211-70 combined there and each one won a National Championship. One left for the NFL, one fizzed out in his last three seasons from not adapting and the latest guy is a complete clown show. Louisiana has more HS DI talent per capita than nearly any state in America. They should be able to get anyone they want considering some of these factors. Even with OU headed to the SEC, I think LSU is the better job right now.

Lincoln Riley can recruit you a QB and get you close to a championship at OU. If you get him into LSU, can we win a championship there? I say yes. My biggest question with him is that if Kirby Smart can't win the big game, what are we to say about Lincoln Riley? Riley took over at OU a year after Smart took over at UGA but Riley was handpicked to get behind the wheel of the ride Stoops left as in in house successor. Smart is an alum and former Saban lieutenant who has won a Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl and Peach Bowl. Lincoln Riley won a Covid Cotton Bowl. He has some QB development stacked on his resume but defense? Big game wins?

Saban, Miles and Coach O all had previous HC experience at a P5 school. So does Riley. LSU probably is not going to give the keys to someone like Napier or even Dave Aranda.

What do you think of Kiffin to LSU?

Just heard that Tucker’s contract will make him the 2nd highest paid coach in CFB.

It would at least maintain the pattern for another cycle. I'd expect Kiffin to come in, recruit his ass off for a couple years, catch lightning in a bottle once and win a natty, and then promptly self-destruct afterwards.

You're probably not wrong. Lane is immensely talented. Avoiding stepping on his own "Little Joey F" is the problem. He seems to have made some progress in that department after graduating from the Saban Rehab Clinic, but time will tell. If he can finish maturing and avoid the problems of the past, I think he could be a homerun hire for LSU if given the chance. Honestly, I'd hate for my guys to have to face him every year with all the talent he'd have there. He's problem enough at Ole Miss.

I think it’d want to see what Kiffin does with his next QB before giving him that type of gig. If he hits another home run with Altmyer and stays 9-3 or better he’ll have the pick of near any job that comes open.

With some of the numbers being thrown around for coaches now, we might want to start getting the war chest ready now for whenever Kelly decides to call it quits. Even if we go after someone who wants to be at ND, we are still probably going to have to give them a salary much higher than what we are paying Kelly.

It's already written into Freeman's contract.

Mel Tucker with that Charlie Weis haven't-won-anything-but-we-don't-want-to-lose-this guy contract. Rarely ends well.

I wonder if part of this is just to prove that they're all in on athletics. Supposedly that was a big reason why Saban left back in the day.

I think Jimbo, Riley and Aranda would be much safer picks, though less fun, and I'd probably consider Napier before Kiffin if I'm being more conservative and safer.

I agree with Whiskeyjack's assessment that he'd probably have a similar tenure to Orgeron's. Probably win a title early and then fall on his own sword somehow. Considering the baggage they're shedding with Orgeron, they may not want to carry Kiffin's.

Reports are that they offered Riley 8 years at $96M, but he effectively said no. I think Oklahoma pays to keep him. Aranda doesn't seem to be particularly popular with the powers that be. Jimbo seems genuine when he says he's not leaving TAMU for LSU. I think it'll probably be Napier, though Matt Campbell wouldn't surprise me. I think both are good and would likely do well, but LSU is a couple of levels above anything they've done before. We've seen more than a few hotshot, can't miss coaches from mid-level programs underwhelm when they get to the big show. As you said, they're all safer and more likely than Kiffin, but it's LSU. Who knows what they'll do. If they announced they'd hired Lane this afternoon, I wouldn't be shocked.

I'd hire Napier before Matt Campbell unless the job was Iowa State. I think Matt Campbell is this generation's Bill Snyder. He's fine where he's at and if he goes anywhere else it won't go well.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the room should Napier interview.

Matt Campbell’s presser yesterday not gonna win him the hearts of many

As a long time and vocal Campbell fan, I thought it was a giant red flag.

I've been coming around to the idea he won't succeed at a place with bigger resources and bigger expectations.

Those dumb comments would be getting mocked in every national CFB segment if he were at a brand name school.

When did Bill Snyder go somewhere other than KSU and not do well?

He didn't. He stayed and was fine. Then he was gone, came back and was essentially the only person who could ever win there.

So Campbell should stay at Iowa State and be fine. He's probably the only guy who can win there and it's the only place he's going to do well.

Sorry for the confusion. I didn't post that quite right, but his should clarify.

Loy said he does not expect Walker Howard to end up at ND. Maybe Mr. Howard got word of some finalizing and is satisfied with the pending hire?

Lincoln have his jet stop there first? Howard’s already reportedly approved of Napier too

FWIW, Ole Miss fans on reddit were saying it’s Kiffin.

Lane is probably getting a raise. Weird just happens to be a LSU candidate at the same time reports he’d take the Miami job too.

Doesn't Miami play in a stadium an hour away from campus? Their facilities are crap from what I understand.

Kiffin is better off staying at Ole Miss or going to LSU before he goes to Miami. Yuck.
