Ryan Harris during the radio broadcast said that Diggs reminds him of Ryan Grant. Pretty good comparison.

Seems likely to me he'll lead the team in carries next year.

Tyree will get plenty of touches but needs to be used differently... like Rocket 2.0. He'd be a huge improvement over Lenzy as Weapon X.

I can see JD Price being RB2 by the end of the year and Estime the new C'Bo.

Regarding Price... Would I have rather had Singleton? Mmm, that's tough to answer just from watching Hudl. Price is committed and that makes him better than Singleton now. But anyone else? Sawchuck? Hayden? Even Henderson? Nope.

Tyree has hands, why not cross train him at Slot? He could be the next Theo, get him touches and out in space.

With the assumption Kyren goes pro I seriously prefer five in the room over four. As such, if you do not get another recruit or grad transfer, I would seriously consider bringing C Bo back if school would allow it and he can be talked into it.

Forgive me, I must be misremembering, but I recall Grant going nowhere but straight. No cuts at all. Maybe I’m just thinking he’s Green Bay days.

He wasn't a flashy runner, but he got the job done and made a nice career for himself. Julius got all the recognition, but Grant may have had the better pro career. His YPC ended up being better, and he had more scores too.

I don’t disagree with that at all. The comparison I’m not seeing. But as noted, I might be misremembering

Tyree is definitely playing slot next week right? Didn’t check the gameday thread but that’s how I took BKs comments about WR post Davis. What else could you move besides Watts back
which I believe he said that wouldn’t be the case

He had the balls to wear 25. Now use him as such. Dude is electric in space. That’s Tommy’s job to utilize him correctly

He catches the ball well. Has the best straight line speed on the team. Certainly is not afraid to take a punch or give a punch fighting across the middle.

Kyren already plays a little slot but his usage should remain the same. It's not C'Bo/Diggs/Estime. Watts makes sense but I'm sure they want to keep the momentum he has on defense going. He's maybe an emergency option if yet another guy goes down. Chance Tucker maybe could have played WR at a lower FBS level but that would be a strange move, and none of the other reserve defensive backs look like options.

So yeah, it's definitely Tyree, who coincidentally had more catches than carries today.

I agree, he’s tough. Now give him the ball in space and let him 25ish.

another reminder how much Jo Jo Johnson’s injury sucks. Does anyone have any update on how the third Freshman (Thomas maybe) you know the baseball one. Is he healthy practicing etc..?

I think Diggs is going to make it so much easier with life without Kyren, next season. He already looks like a running back that can get the ball 20 times a game.

On his touchdown run against Navy, I counted 5 true freshmen on the field: Buchner, Diggs, Colzie, Evans, and Alt. It might've been 6, but I couldn't tell if Styles was there or not. Either way, the future is extremely bright for Diggs and the entire 2021 freshmen class on offense.

Agree, this freshman offensive class is . Buchner, Styles, Colzie, and Diggs could finally take us to the promised land if the defense continues at current levels.

I know it's not glamorous like the skill positions but the freshman OL class is also going to be a special one for us: Fisher, Alt and Spindler are going to be really good for us for 3-4 years.

Absolutely. But I wouldn’t disregard Pat Coogan. He will not see action as early as the 3 mentioned above, but from practice reports he seems to be getting good reviews. I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned out to be a really good 2 to 3 year starter at guard or center. And then there is Caleb Johnson. Caleb at the very least should be a real good two deep guy and possibly more.

Then you add two very promising TE’s in Berrong and Mitch Evans. The 2021 offensive class could be an all timer.

Diggs is a patient runner with good vision but I think he really lacks explosion. I just don’t see the second gear.

Could be like Folston too, who also lacked that next gear but was a very good back when healthy.

That next gear IMO is a bit overrated. As long as you can accelerate with a burst and see a hole is what matters. How many times do you see a RB house one for 80 in the NFL?

Getting to the sticks is the standard. Barry Sanders isn’t coming out of retirement anytime soon.

And, KW looked to have plenty when he amazed us all against UNC. Just saying

edit: oops, wrong thread, talking Diggs. The above still applies

With the exception of Dexter Williams the one year he started and maybe Josh Adams, I'm not sure any of Kelly's starting RBs had a second gear.

Having a second gear as a college RB is a bonus, but not needed for a RB to be very successful. Mark Ingram made hay without a second gear, and so did a lot of the earlier Bama RB’s. I will take patience, vision and burst over top speed all day. Diggs isn’t going to compete on the track team but he fast enough to bust some long runs.

Diggs definitely has that Armando Allen, tackled-by-the-shoe-strings-on-a-potential-breakaway thing happening on nearly all of his good runs... but the good news is, he keeps finding space and bouncing through those holes to get to those potential breakaway carries, and that's been in limited opportunities.

He's going to break a few over the next 2.5 years just by virtue of the defense having to honor Buchner's athleticism, which will put Diggs in one-on-one situations with safeties at the second level. You don't necessarily need a 4.3 to be gone when you've got that matchup.
