I haven’t really looked at those CB comments, but I’m assuming that almost all of them were saying CB would be better and not saying that he wouldn’t be a very good receiver. I’m extremely excited at his future at WR, but he may have turned out to be just as good at CB.

Looking back on some of the arguments from this thread?

So, who still wants him at CB?

And, he's got quite a bit of PT for a freshman.

Anybody want to eat some crow?

i was one of those who wondered if it would be better to put your best athlete at CB (the lou holtz method) but i certainly have no complaints with how it has worked out.

Yep. I am the guilty party.
Is crow best done roasted?

(He would probably be starting at CB though).

I love him as a receiver now and forever. But he’s such a gamer, a football player, that if ND wins every game from now until Stanford, and you need one player in the back end to win the last game of the year, you could do a lot worse than to put Styles back there for a fourth quarter.

Love the effort. I'm going to say now I think he's going to end up with a really great career when all is said and done. Quickly becoming my favorite receiver since Golden Tate.

More than Floyd/Fuller/Chase etc?

It's still early, but I love the effort on every play. Fuller was a play making machine, but I never saw him pancaking a USC defender 15 yards down the field. Chase was great, but I've kinda soured on him since he became a Steeler, has a bit of an attitude now maybe I dunno.

I used to be a big fan of Floyd. He was tight with the family. My cousin was in his class, she was asked to go with him to some formal but she had already said yes to someone else (Nate Montana if I remember correctly). The night he broke his collarbone against Michigan State my family invited him out to dinner. He came, but he was very careful to pay for everything so he wouldn't get dinged for any benefits violations. In any case, he was good friends with my cousin to say the least. She tried multiple times to get him to clean up his act and quit doing stupid stuff after Sophomore year, the drinking and driving mostly. He got to be a bit of an ass I guess and she distanced from him as a result. Things never really got better for him. I never met him personally, I'm sure he's a good guy that was just going through some stuff, but needless to say I'm not that high on him anymore.

I heard that both Colzie and Styles were likely headed to the portal if Del was retained, but if he wasn’t they would likely be back. Basically all of the freshman skill players have been uppity about their “lack of playing time” which is comical when compared to other freshman around the country. Is what it is.

Ironically, I think that retaining Del would’ve gone a long way with the current WR commits. So this is basically a Sophie’s Choice with the worst position coach on the staff for the position of biggest need. Probably best for ND to get the best coach they can and then try to hit the transfer portal hard.

My one fear in all of this MF madness is that the kids start to get bid heads.

I like that they were given the opportunity to voice their opinions and make themselves heard. But you dont need to be a silver haired kook to feel that this generation already has entitlement issues. I am all for empowering the students... as long as ND doesnt become a place like SC filled a bunch of undisciplined prima donnas who act like they are pro bowlers in their freshman year.

Call BK cold or distant or a CEO or whatever... but there was no doubt in anyone's mind who the boss was and he set the culture. If that meant that a couple of kids or coaches ended up walking... so be it.

Ugh. Recruits or not, I would rather have someone who can develop the talent for the future. Last year was a mess, and for half of this season the WR group really struggled. It's hard to even tell if the improvement came from Del or if Styles and Colzie getting more PT resulted in pushing Austin and Lenzy to step up their game.
