Meyer could end up replacing Helton at USC. As fun as it is to read about him struggling, I'd rather him not crash out of the NFL.

Then we need to put pressure on the powers that be to fire BK or encourage him to have an "early retirement" if Meyer is open to coming back to college.

Don’t you put that evil on us, Ricky Bobby

ND Fans: "Oh look! Meyer's shtick is wearing thin again. Can't wait for him to fake another heart attack on his way to unemployment."

I will never understand how anyone still thinks 1) Urban would come to ND or 2) ND would take him. This will never happen.

lol, things are going so well at the moment.

You’re not wrong, just saw the striking similarities based on this story. Screaming at and making subordinates constantly fearful for their jobs does not a good leader make, rather quite the opposite.

I don't know much about what he did back in Florida (except for all the winning) but I don't think anything he did at OSU would scare ND off. I know he got chewed out because someone he was friends with was naughty but get over it.

I think Urban would come if they wanted him, but I don't see any way the powers that be would touch Urban with a ten foot pole. You'd think they'd be able to overlook his "baggage" if they've stood by a guy who has had the following happen under his watch:

-A student videographer falling to his death
-A young woman who committed suicide after allegedly being sexually assaulted by a linebacker who remained on the team
-Vacated wins due to playing ineligible players

And if they want to play the "Aaron Hernandez turned into a killer" card, I'd offer up Cierre Wood. Obviously not apples to apples, though.

By no means are these shots at Kelly. My beef is with the hypocrisy of the ND "elite" who would think they're too good for Meyer should he be available down the line.

Some ND fans are jilted lovers when it comes to this topic. He was never coming, he's not ever going to come. At this point, people either move on or they don't.

Kelly's not culpable for any of that, nor are those incidents remotely comparable to why ND would never touch Meyer. But they do top the list for "most common bad faith arguments offered against Brian Kelly".

Real ND fan here taking shots at the school hypocritically trying to do things the right way! Won't someone think of the multi-millionaire coach-cum-celebrity-cum-coach who may have been unjustly vilified by our stuffy admin?

I don't believe Kelly is at fault for those. Again, my beef is with the smug powers that be and fans who would want no part of Meyer because of his "baggage." If they think he has baggage that's fine by me. But if they want to be consistent, then they need to feel the same way about other coaches who have had less than ideal events transpire under their watches or who they've associated themselves with. Not just Brian Kelly. Any coach. I'd ask if they would feel the same way about Greg Schiano due to his connections to Jerry Sandusky.

Many likely think Greg Schiano is not a good fit based on his past too.

Name names, otherwise it's just an invisible battle vs a perceived enemy. One would say Kelly did a good job getting a toxic (supposedly) person like Chip Long out, and it was pretty much accepted by the fan base.

Greg Schiano is a name.

Personally, I believe he was railroaded. There was zero concrete evidence that he was hiding information or was involved in what went on at PSU. The twitter mob, led by UT fans (namely Clay Travis), went after him 4 years ago and tried to tie him to Sandusky because of a story out there claiming Schiano was hiding something. That article has been discredited by people with an intimate knowledge of the PSU investigation. Travis went on a podcast with Joel Klatt of Fox Sports and Klatt got Travis to admit that he was mad at UT for being very close to naming Schiano as the next head coach and that he was sloppy with his research. His sources said UT was close to hiring Dan Mullen because Chip Kelly apparently had a deal with Florida to be the next HC, and when that fell through Mullen went to UF and UT was left scrambling. Travis and UT fans got angry and began throwing crap against the wall in an effort to cancel Schiano, who had agreed to be the next UT coach. UT bowed down to the twitter mob and backed out of the deal, leading many to believe that what was said about Schiano was true.

This encapsulates the United States of America.

I agree with you, and Tennessee is going to pay for this for a very long time on top of already being in college football purgatory for a very long time. They deserve it.

Almost everything about college football is gross in one way or another. And I get your argument about the hypocrisy, high-and-mighty nature of some of the fan base.

But Urban's baggage and the baggage that other coaches carry is very, VERY different.

I have no idea about any of that off the field stuff or how he would recuit on the west coast but Schiano is an elite defensive coach, hammers fundamentals and strikes me as tough. All are desperately needed at USC. He would probably stablize the program and win a lot of games at USC (and likely would have done the same at TN). Not sure if he'd make them a legit contender but he would provide value, imo.

Agreed.

Forget Aaron Hernandez. His tenure at Florida saw about three dozen arrests and the range of charges filed were pretty serious. This wasn't beer pong olympics.

The Zach Smith situation at Ohio State was very disturbing based on how HE handled it.

He's insufferable but he wins so he is therefore tolerated.

Any ND fans still kissing this asshole's ring need to get out mom's basement for good and all. He's going to be the next coach at Liberty instead of USC.

You don't get it, Rogue. Meyer is a PROVEN WINNER, and if you're not comfortable with his baggage, you must be a stuck-up alumnus who doesn't care about returning ND to glory.

I respectfully disagree Whiskey. I am not a stuck-up alumnus but I would not want Meyer here. I agree he is a proven winner but he does have a lot of baggage. If ND was not stuck up it’s own ass with the self-reporting and other BS they do then his baggage may not be bad. But, when we lose wins over two seasons for FIVE players getting extra help and UNC loses nothing for ten years of fake classes, I am afraid anything Urban does…and you know he will do something…will be blown up and tarnish ND. In addition, I do not believe he will come here.

I think somebody set Urban up... as soon as he explains it away as "someone trying to get me on the dance floor," they hit him with A SECOND SHOOTER:
