Has Baker been primarily with the 1's or the 2's in fall camp?

Is it fair to say that he adjusting slowly to the college game?

I don't think that's fair. It's fair to say he's not a starter and we all hope he can eventually earn starter reps. Some think he lost athleticism with the weight gain. Some think he's not physical enough. Some think he's just getting beaten about by better players. His 3rd year in the program will hopefully tell us more.

Anyone else here starting to get concerned about Tosh's level of play?
I thought for sure he was going to be the next big thing at ND...now... not so much.
Next year Caramody, Big Fish, and likely Alt will all be ahead of him at tackle?

*disclaimer: I don't mean to call him a "bust" if it comes across that way*

Yeah he's a total bust unless something changes with how he's carrying his weight and able to move. Thought he would be a star, but he is not quick on his feet and struggles in pass pro. Huge bummer.

Next year line will likely be Fisher - Spindler - Correll - Carmody - Alt, with virtually no depth behind that group unless we land a transfer.

We really screwed up by only landing 2 OL players in the 2020 class, especially because the 2019 class turned out to be full of busts. Luckily, the 2021 class looks to have at least three hits in it. In the 2022 class the only guy I'm convinced is going to be a star is Ty Chan. I think they really, really need to sign at least one additional player.

Baker did have the task of reshaping his body and adding a lot of weight in a short window of time. Hopefully he can benefit from a focus on getting his athleticism back instead of just packing on mass.

Agreed.

These 6'7''/6'8'' guys are boom or bust, or at least that's the way it seems. Definitely worth the risk, imo.

Curious why you're low on Tanona. I can understand the star designation, but he seems like he'll be a productive player at the very least, no?

Rome wasn't built in a day, kid had some work to do coming in. Only a 3* so we should have expected a slower ramp up.

Not low on him, just not 100% convinced he will be good vs. OK vs. great. I am absolutely convinced that Ty Chan will be a multi-year starter and NFL player.

Tosh was consensus 4 star. Maybe you are talking about someone else.

Went off his profile on IE. Assumed that if he had been a 4* that would have been updated. Regardless, the message doesn't change, some kids just need more time than others. Giving up after 1.25 seasons on a kid isn't how you build a program.

Been coaching hockey for 20+ years, not the same sport but an athlete is an athlete. Some just take longer, we don't know what the 22/23 classes will become and God forbid there are always injuries.

No, this is the best case.

That's a helluva play by #79. This is a beautiful play overall going heavy with Alt at TE. ( I know it was posted yesterday somewhere but wanted it in Tosh's thread to remind us what's possible )

This is an awesome play, indeed. Seals off the interior lineman and works his way upfield to the THIRD level beautifully. Him blocking that safety helped spring 23 for that huge run. Nice work, TB!

Reminded me of Q. Always looking for another body to humiliate. He played very well Saturday.

It seems like Tosh has the same issue that Kramer had at times... he lets his upper body get ahead of his feet, and forgets to bring his base with him. When he's NOT doing that, he can be really good.

I trust Quinn to get him right and work with him on the best way to figure things out.

(The OL numbers have been abysmal, but we've been so spoiled the past few years that it makes ANY struggle seem irredeemable... we forget these guys can still develop and improve, even if there are going to be some hiccups and ugly sacks along the way)

He's a true Sophomore. How many of our recent draft picks were finished products or playing better as true sophomores? Some, but certainly not all. So, he's still got a chance and hopefully they keep trying to get him ready. Carmody at LT, Baker at RT, and Lugg sits.

Do you suppose there's any chance Lugg moves inside?

He certainly could as Madden's play hasn't been very good or consistent either. And, I'm not going to sit here and act like I'm grading OL play or should be. That's a much more reasonable approach, to rotate him at RG until someone takes that job.

But, watching him consistently getting walked back is utterly pathetic. He's 6'6 7/8, 305 lbs. and he plays like a TE. If he's going to miss with poor technique, that's one issue. There are too many players on this team that are giving max effort to be ok with this. We need to get some nasty back in the trenches. If I was coaching the OL, I'd start making examples of effort and toughness. We need to inspire this unit.

Honestly would rather have Kristofic replace Madden than Lugg.
