In terms of a 3 - 4 year average, I think you’d have:

- Alabama

- Georgia
- LSU, Florida, A&M, OU cycling in that 1 to 3 loss range depending top players every few years. If you’re OU with the expanded playoff you take that in a heartbeat. I think Texas THINKS they instantly join this group but man Sark better be the right choice otherwise you’re more like Auburn. The question is how easily can you fight you’re way out of that hole once you’re there. I’d argue you’re making it harder on yourself not easier. But hey, $$$.

So the way ESPN sees this shaking out is bye bye Big 12 you’re leftovers aren’t taking UC, UCF etc, they can join the AAC, which we have too!

Texas won't be Auburn, they randomly win it all every few years. I think Texas is going to be in a battle to see who is the better orange T school every year.

FTFY. If Bowlsby had the power to order ESPN to do anything, he wouldn't be in this jam to begin with.

Just about exactly my take on this.

Ouch, that's harsh. Maybe true, though. I think Texas will eventually right the ship and at least get back to being a consistent top 20 program. Too much booster interference to expect much more.

A&M is middle of the pack and not on the same level as Georgia and LSU. A&M hasn’t had a double digit win season since 2012. The only one since 1999. Only 10 in the last 40 years. UF looks like they’re climbing back up but not there yet IMO.

ESPN moving to destroy the Big-12 just like they destroyed the Big East 10 years ago. Some wild shit.

Would love to see wizards defend the Mouse on this one.

Stupid move by the leftovers.. ESPN is ruthless and ask UConn how it goes with lawsuits. Take the L and move on. Have Tex and OU pay 80 million each and call it a day.

The allegation is that ESPN is trying to peel off enough of the Big 12 to eliminate the buyout. Apparently the rights grant is voided if the conference doesn’t field enough teams.

Of course and you bet it happened. ESPN is a scummy company. But these schools need to think long term. Why piss off the biggest bidder for rights? That is stupid. NBC barely has interest in CFB, CBS is cheap, and Fo x is what is left. Removing ESPN from the bidding will keep their rights down.

A&M finished AP 4th last year and had invested two oil basins in their program. They have notched a win on every team in the West and are 5th overall in wins since joining with down years and have one of the best environments in college football that I’m already excited to experience again in 2024. Disagree

I would agree with you if they were staying in the Big12, but how do you ever turn the corner now when you're getting your ass kicked 4-5 times per season?

At the end of the day...they'll always be A&M. They aren't a blue blood. They never will be a blue blood. That time has passed. Unfortunate for them really.

They are what they are. An also-ran. College football is like medieval tourneys and European soccer. Form is temporary. Class, is more or less permanent. Combating tradition is a fool's errand in the SEC West and being in UT-A's shadow.

I have nothing against A&M, but they'll never be Texas, and that is never a recipe for long term success. You can experience a good run. But if you arent #1 in your state (which they never will be, especially if Texas joins the SEC), you are the little brother.

Good point. I have a hard time counting Texas completely out for the simple reason that they 100% believe they're supposed to be a top program and they have more money to spend on getting there than anyone else. Their problem is the same one Bama had in the years between Bear and Saban (except about 10x worse): too many rich boosters who think that because they've been successful in the business world and have donated millions to the school, that they should have a major say-so in how the football program is run. That's why Saban demanded full control of the program as a condition for accepting the job. If Texas ever gets their booster problem under control (unlikely given the money and egos involved), they have the history and resources to be a top program.

I like Texas to straighten out. Remember when we were making fun of OU’s D? Texas hired on of the best DC’s in the game and if Sark does his thing, they’re gonna be tough. I expect Pete K to kill it there.

And then get hired by Freeman when he takes over.

Now that’s a hot call for a futures bet.

I'm not questioning the environments or how much oil money they have. Ol Miss has a great environment. Doesn't mean they're good. Purdue beat OSU a couple of years ago. That doesn't make them better than average. Their record says they are average.

The allegation is that ESPN is trying to peel off enough of the Big 12 to eliminate the buyout. Apparently the rights grant is voided if the conference doesn’t field enough teams.

From espn.com

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby accused ESPN of encouraging other conferences to pick apart the league so Texas and Oklahoma can move to the Southeastern Conference more quickly and without paying a massive buyout.

"I have absolute certainty that they (ESPN) have been involved in manipulating other conferences to go after our members," Bowlsby told The Associated Press on Wednesday after sending a cease-and-desist letter to the network.

The letter addressed to ESPN executive Burke Magnus, president of programming and content, said the Big 12 had become aware the network had taken actions "to not only harm the Big 12 Conference but to result in financial benefits for ESPN."

ESPN has been spiraling down for a while. This is their attempt to fix themselves at the expense of others.

Also from ESPN.com SEC to meet today to discuss extending offers to UT & OU.

They'll be a pain in the ass for anyone based on Sark's short time with Bama and how creative they were under his guidance. As long as he can handle being the head honcho without a babysitter looming over him, and is past his personal issues... TEXAS IS BACK (MAYBE)

The thought that the vote discussion was useless since they likely wouldn’t have gotten this far without already having the votes was probably correct. Wonder which ESPN employee had to physically raise A&Ms hand to vote Yes

A&M's working behind the scenes to flip to the B1G and bring KU, Mizzou and Vandy with them. The same day the B1G announces their deal with UNC & UVa to round out the new B2G
