Fair, and same question applies. If Freeman lands Bowen after getting these other guys, how do you not coach these guys through. The talent level is so far superior to what he’s coached before and I assume with success he’ll get a quality P5 gig soon but nothing that has a LB room like that.

If he can recruit and coach at an elite level at ND, I would imagine the discussion around BK's exit will grow loudly.

I asked myself the same question and IDK. They all have elite LBs stashed in their roster and are in on the elites already this cycle too. IDK but I think they are preoccupied with those guys at the moment.

recruiting goes both ways. I have no idea how any of this unfolded, but I can't imagine guys like Saban / Kirby etc focusing on a guy that doesn't focus on the them right back. Like you said, there is enough elite talent around. I liken it to big game huntin' when I was in school. There is talent all around the bar. You make a lap. Now, are you going to go after the one who gave you bedroom eyes or the one that didn't even make eye contact with you?

Yeah it does seem like Freeman is in on these guys earlier than som eof the bigger schools. His eye for talent might be very sharp.

I am convinced he was promised a shot at replacing BK after 2024 so long as he meets X performance marks and shows he is worth it. In other words, he took a chance on himself now to earn that spot for 2025. That is why he came to ND and not LSU, in my opinion.

That's certainly plausible, but I don't think he would wait around until 2025 if he produces at a high level.

Im not ready to crown Freeman yet, Im going to wait to see how his classes shape up in the end. Im still skeptical he can close on elite talent at the level he is being hyped for. Also all of the 2023 recerutis we are sitting well for have some sort of historical or familial relationship to ND so he is definitely riding in the catbird seat due to that. My pessimistic outlook is that we will inevitably finish with a 5-10 ranked class... more like 8-10. 2023 could see us land multiple 5* but.... again we will see if thats more him or being able to close a kid predisposed to ND (an abberant exception rather than the rule)

What’s a more likely and/or faster path to ND/OSU? Staying DC here and hoping BK retires or Day hops to the NFL in 5 years or less, or taking a Iowa-level job in the next two years and then basically hoping for the same? I’d say option A I don’t find really much different than B

I don't know when BK plans to hang it up but I strongly suspect he won't do it suddenly and views his successor as part of his legacy.

So I don't think it would be farfetched to say there will be a plan in place well before that time.

I AM NOT saying that Freeman is in that position. But he could be there in a couple of years.

Something to think about. Does BK's tenure end align with Swarbrick and Jenkin's tenures ending as well? They seem to be on a very focused and cohesive plan together.

“Suddenly” by public versus in private standards would be the question. Bob Stoops retired “suddenly” to the public but who knows how long he has been thinking privately about Lincoln.

like Crus, Lucc, Dale, Cackalacky, and so very many others

Some AD will come up with 4 million additional reasons why Freeman should NOT be the DC at ND if Jack doesn't have a better plan.

I think Freeman is right. He's going to make a push for the #1 LB spot. Which would make him a 5 star. He's so freaking good.

I like what Freeman has done with recruiting, I want to see his product on the field.

I saw all I needed in the UGa game. He got 3*'s to match what Bama's 5*'s did in Tuscaloosa.

I don't know if he can match Lea's halftime adjustments but I believe if he's here long enough to coach Kollie and the '22 LB's in their prime, I think we'll be blown away.

LB MVP. I’d guess he’s a near lock given that to get 5 star status on at least Rivals

He'll make adjustments as effectively as Lea did, I would guess. UC wasn't playing the same caliber of team each week as ND, but when an opponent found something that looked like a chink in the armor, UC would lock it up after a quarter or a half just like Lea's ND defenses.

The UC/UCF game in 2019 is a great example of Freeman (1) coming in with an elite gameplan, (2) adjusting on the fly to continue giving the offense fits, and (3) predicting the adjustments the opposition is gonna make, and being ready for those, too.

In terms of recruiting, when Freeman left UC, the Bearcats lost their top two defensive recruits almost immediately... and that's with Luke Fickell still being there as the head guy, and a major part of the defensive coaching staff overall. (They've since added a 4-star DT, so Fickell can still turn it on, but the writing is on the wall about who at UC was securing the top-end guys in general).

Odds are that cheeks shows up this weekend? He spoils Jr and Sneeds announcements if he cancels, but that's no reason to go through with a visit

Aaaand the cheeks visit is off.....LFG Jr and sneed are in the fold. Selfishly want a Sneed announcement today or this weekend while the latest visitors are on campus, we know when Jr is announcing but sneed would be another level of hype after the 5 star challenge

is Jaylen sneed as talented as Jaylon Smith was?

No. Similar types but I don’t think at the same level, Smith was just that good. Best prospect they have ever seen according to some 247 guys
