I cannot find the hip hop thread but I suppose this fits.

I'm in the market for some rap/hip hop music. I just got a new phone and new spotify account and need to start from scratch.

I like my music hard. I want it to sound like I'm doing 20 to life for selling crack. I like Meek Mill. Any suggestions? I'm about 5 years behind 'what's cool'.

Young Thug, Travis Scott, and Future would be the most popular current "hard" rappers.

Schoolboy Q just released an album if you're more into a Kendrick Lamar vibe and some previously unreleased tracks from the last couple years of Kendrick dropped a few months ago.

Chance the Rapper's "Coloring Book" is pure hip hop joy like early 2000s Kanye meets 2016.

Drake's new album is fake hip hop pop garbage so there's that too.

I don't think I would call J Cole "hard" but he is pretty popular and not someone you are going to hear on a top 40 station like Drake. I like his music a lot.

Everything about this is genius. The lyrics are genius. The video is genius. The editing is genius.

He made a rap video to rival any other rap video, and he made it for free. It's hilarious when you consider that rappers probably spends tens or even hundreds of thousands on their music videos.

I really like how it tells the story, and the editing makes it so much funnier. He explains his mission to an old lady in a documentary-style scene, which then cuts to a fully-edited music video in that same old lady's mansion. You never watch a video and think, "I wonder who's house that is?"

Something about knowing there is an old lady milling about somewhere behind those windows makes it all the more entertaining when he's doing the generic/cliche/cheesy slow-motion music video dancing with nifty camera angles.

I also love when he's asking the girl at McLaren if he could use a car for 15 minutes, and she laughs at him like he's a fool... and then they cut straight to another fully-edited shot of him dancing alongside a McLaren lol.

Lastly: "I get logins for Netflix from my cousin Greg. Thanks Greg."

Does anyone else here listen to JJ Grey & Mofro??

So good, each of their albums has a definite unique feel (One is Funk/Soul based, one is much more gritty and Southern Rock based, another is gospel based, another more modern pop based... so on) to it and each is pretty much equally good... hard to find that these days...

It would have been nice if Garfunkel were there as well.

Hearing how Paul's voice has begun to falter with age, I fear what time has done to Art's clear, crisp and soaring soprano.

I know that there was "tension" between them, but I was glad that they set their differences aside temporarily for the concert in Central Park – that I had the good fortune to attend.

It was quite the show.

I, too, am Back in Florida after 30+ years in Minnesota.

Sweating like a pig in a Georgia wallow for 30+ days I long for some pond hockey --- as a spectator sippin' hard cider through a straw.

[I watched a follow-up video :

It's one effing hundred degrees here in Jax!

Oh, and I like the music. The minimalist drum kit is a delight.

Just listened to it on iTunes. Do they have a new lead singer? That didn't sound like Dave Draiman to me. Good song though.

Edit - Googled it and it is still him.

According to Wikipedia, Draiman is still the lead singer. The band took a hiatus for a few years and is now back playing together.

Sound of Silence has only been viewed over 87 million times on YouTube.

A little trivia I did not know. Box of Rain was the last song Jerry played in concert. I'm not a big Dead fan but went to some shows because a good number of my friends would follow them in the summers.

I was supposed to go to the last show with my fiancee and her friends but I gave my ticket up to someone else who came in from the Bay. She later bought me Meet & Greet package for Ben Harper as a payback. Fair trade for me. Ben's still my guy and oddly enough later started gigging with my other guys, Pearl Jam all the time.

I have the ticket below in one of my framed ticket collages.

Speaking of PJ... Members of PJ and Soundgarden are touring as Temple of the Dog this fall to celebrate the 25th Ann. of the their seminal tribute album to Andrew Wood. To me, it's the #1b album of all time just barely behind Buckley's Grace.

I didn't have anything in my bucket list until these shows were announced. I will be at Staples Center on Nov. 4th. Don't wait up, I'll be late.

Jake Owen's new CD 'American Love' now that it is on Spotify.

Didn't like it the first time I listened to it so I will have to keep listening until I do.
