I've been watching condensed versions of last year's games in anticipation of Fall camp, because I'm a football addict with a real problem.

I thought of a good prop bet for next season:

Over/Under on number of passing attempts for Torii Hunter, Jr. in 2016

Ah the questions this board has during the offseason...

Running out of things to keep my brain busy over here.

Great minds....

I was planning on going through the key position players today and doing over/unders on stats. Thought it would be fun, now it's just a filthy lil exercise in plagiary.

Nah, this was a for-fun thought that I had. You could still do the run-down on potential over/unders and keep us all entertained.

Torii can push the ball down field pretty well, and the coaching staff showed an increased amount of creativity last year. If that continues into this season, I think it's realistic that Torii could see another 3 passing attempts, or more, especially if the defense is gonna be keying on him every time he touches the ball, which is very likely as NDLightning35 mentioned above.

1. Smoke-screen to Hunter that turns into double-pass to Alize.

2. Jet-Sweep to Hunter, who winds up and throws as he goes around the end to a streaking EQ.

3. Pitch/Swing to Adams/Folston, who pitches to Hunter on a reverse, who unloads it deep down the seam to CJ Sanders.

4. Smoke-screen to Hunter, who hits Zaire on the QB-throw-back, after Zaire entered the game to confuse the defense.

3 passing attempts.

Why do you say that?

He threw the ball 3 times last year in optimal situations. It's not outside the realm of possibility that he gets the same amount of opportunities as last year to keep the defense honest.

I am not a fan of trick plays**. We have all the talent in the world on offense. We shouldn't need to run trick plays, especially not the same one 3+ different times.

**Not trick plays where you ask players to do things they do not normally do. I don't mind misdirection trick plays but I don't like when receivers/running backs throw the ball, no matter how much natural talent they have doing it. In other words, I like flea flickers and fake FG runs but I don't like WR passes or punter passes. Things like that.

I can understand the "don't get cute" mantra when you appear to be set up as well as ND is.

But on Torii's three pass attempts last year, he completed one, should have had a TD on another, and threw too deep on the third.

I don't think it's about *needing* to run trick plays, but more about the fact that they've shown a willingness to do it, and the opportunities should be even better this year considering the defense is going to gravitate towards Torri as our defacto no.1 option this year.

A 33% success rate is not good. I don't know that teams change their defense because you are willing to run a trick play. I mean look at our defense last year. We consistently got burned on trick plays and never adjusted.

I'm saying that another season of Torii being on the field more might result in the same or even a higher number of opportunities. That's all. It was just an over/under that I thought would be interesting to set based on how many times he did it last year lol.

There's also a chance that there are less opportunities, of course, considering they might not want to get too cute with their #1 WR.

Either way, though, I don't think running three or four WR passes would mean we "are in trouble."

We weren't in trouble last year when we ran them lol.

I'm going under on all three. Think we get multiple WR in the 500+ yard range, plus a more opportunities for the tight ends.

Hope he is ok.

Can someone please explain to me how that was not targeting?!

I blame Kelly for not screaming at the refs. Should have ripped off their heads for not making that call though.

If they make a video of the targeting penalty, this is what they would show. Defender left his feet, blow to the head, leading with head, then threw a forearm for good measure.

According to the announcers, this year the booth can radio down and call targeting if the refs on the field miss it so they missed it twice.

Get better soon, Torii! He got jobbed by the refs for sure. Such a shame.

I just watched the hit again on ESPN.com. Not as bad as I originally thought. I still feel it was targeting, but the defender did not leave his feet and the forearm was due to his momentum going forward.

I hope Torii is not out too long.

That was targeting. If Tuitt got kicked out of a game for a weak targeting call in 2013, so should this kid have been kicked out.

Not sure why you requoted me. In both my posts, I said it was targeting.

I thought it was targeting also. But in all fairness they also could have also called Rochell for roughing the passer on the interception. Pretty sure there was helmet to helmet contact with the TX qb on that play.

That's an absurd comparison. One resulted in the loss of 7 points, the other was a forced TO.

We could complain about ticky tacky missed calls all day but there was only one glaring missed call and it was the targeting that took 7 points away. That was a huge momentum change.

I am not making a comparison. Nor should there be. A penalty is a penalty. Try to be a little objective. Plus the interception led to a TD.

Also, that is not why ND lost last night. Twice they got the ball late in the game with the lead and I think on the two series they were able to get ONE first down. That was it. They have only themselves to blame. The officiating was pretty good.
