I feel like we hardly knew him. Injury-ridden season this year when i was expecting a breakout all-american season and not used too much last year.

wish we had more time with him

Or he'll go play for the Angel's since they signed him to a contract. Pretty sure anyone that can make money in both sports would choose baseball.

Hard to come back to this mess. Must know Kizer is leaving too, and he would be starting next year with a super talented Whimbush with no experience.

This is just the beginning of guys leaving in my opinion.

Kelly has to keep defending himself. I am scared of our recruiting jump offs.

My guess is he's quitting football, moreso than Notre Dame's football program. He's a longshot for the NFL. Has dealt with several injuries including concussions. Just married. Frankly, probably doesn't need the money.
Why not get his degree, hang it up and move on with life?

This. I would think between the two sports, Torii would probably choose baseball. He's probably got a brighter future there and less chance for injury.

How crazy is it that the year after his dad quits he could follow in his footsteps?

Sadly he has underachieved but showed us signs of his potential. If we have a position where we might experience addition thru subtraction the WR group and D line are those in question. We know what we've had with this Dline for a while. If Trumbetti wants to get out of the way as well we could see someone better step up.

I think the WR core next year could really use his leadership and work ethic. The WR's will still be a young group next year and I would like to have Tori around. Not having Corey's experience and leadership on the field this year hurt the unit and led to the many inconsistencies.

Can Claypool be a starter next year? He is a mismatch nightmare if Kelly could figure out how to exploit that. He can probably block pretty god too.

No. He will only be used on special teams. Sorry.

I wonder a bit if Torii wouldn't have been better served staying in the Slot and putting Sanders on the outside to utilize his speed more. Sanders isn't as fast as Fuller, but he has decent speed and could have taken the top off the defense still I think.

Saunders is too small a target for the long ball. All the deep routes he was on the ball was too high for him. No vertical jump.

Guy was a bust. Athletic as hell, but not a "football player".

Like his attitude and leadership, but go play baseball.

Poor choice of words. Corey Holmes is thus far a bust. Hunter was a contributor when called upon.

Says the guy who sits on the couch and watches him play on Saturdays.

Would love to hear what your definition of a "football player" is.

He's not even good at baseball, FWIW.

kid was crippled by injuries from the get-go. his body is held together with tape.

He's a bust when you factor in how much he was expected to contribute.

Yeah, I guess if you wanted too, you could call it more of a disappointing career than a bust, given the injuries... but bust doesn't mean your a bad player (or a bad person), it just means you never lived up to the expectations. Injury, work ethic, grades...etc. The reason is irrelevant.

Hype from the get-go and for whatever reason, never really panned out to be what we expected.

Don't be that guy.

Otherwise, shut the site down because we are all sitting on the couch.

I at least played at the college level, what about you?

And here we go...call a guy a bust, who never really panned out, and the defenders are out as if I made fun of him personally.

Get over it. It is what it is. Guys bust all the time. Seriously.

Nope never played a down of college football.

Still wondering what your definition of a football player is. In my mind he fit the mold for what he was asked to do when healthy, be a decent WR. I believe most of the hype on him came from name alone.

And just for laughs I prefer to watch my ND games from the recliner.

I mean he's not built for football. The dude is brittle as hell.

Now, there are smaller guys that can take it...but he's not one of them. Better to walk off, than limp off.

Holmes never had any hype about him coming to ND, thats a little harsh on him.

He had hype.

He was a better prospect coming out of HS than THjr and the others he's been behind since getting to SB... Fuller, Brown, Prosise, Robinson. At least Hunter contributed @ 1000 yds of receiving in the shadow of those players and other older players like TJ Jones, Davaris Daniels and Amir Carlisle. I did note CH has been a bust... thus far. He has '17 to correct that, hopefully he and his 'thus far bust' classmate, Justin Brent have redeeming years.

i cant ever remember anybody proclaiming him to be anything special. From what I recall he was seen as a well coached kid from a great program who didnt have a high ceiling.

I didn't mean that as an attack...I meant it literally.

He doesn't have the body and he can't stay healthy. I'm not questioning his toughness
