That's interesting. Would we only take two DT's then?

I don't know. GB and some others say the staff doesn't like Lil Cage. If Tufele commits and Cage wants out, you'd think ND would be the first place HE'D want to go. I know i would be taking 3 DT's. If Hinish and Ewell are my first 2 then Cage would be my most logical 3rd choice and THEN DWP if Cage didn't flip.

I think you have to take 3. There's a lot of questionable DT's in the depth chart... Questionable if they are ND quality starters and questionable if they all stay. (I'd be shocked if they did) A couple of transfers and a couple of injuries to the top of the 2 deep added on top of Jones and Rochell's departure this year could make for a all too familiar scenario next year.

I don't know why we wouldn't take every quality defensive tackle we possibly can. We never seem to have enough to play on Saturdays.

I kinda agree with this. I'm not convinced that Dew-Treadway or Tiassum are going to be quality starters. I hope I'm wrong but I look at them as both project-types that were brought in to be quality depth/size type DT's cause we whiffed on all the guys we wanted. Neither of them are bad players. We need a championship defence though. Last year we didn't take any DT's as well. We take as many good DT's for sure. I see us getting Hinish, DWP and Ewell. Nice little haul but we take a solid fourth if it comes our way. I think Hinish is awesome and underrated. I believe he was the DL MVP at Columbus Opening....or some major camp.

Go Irish.

Yep, take them all. I have a feeling about Hinish becoming a monster. He reminds me of CZ.

I can't believe we might really add this young man to our class. I always expect something to change with our top DL. Ewell will be competing for minutes early.

This would be the biggest pick up for the 2017 and it wouldn't be really close

'17 VA DT Darnell Ewell (Offer)

'17 VA DT Darnell Ewell (Offer)

Is he willing to move to Niagra Falls for four years or was it just a bucket list thing, though? I guess we'll see come the 15th.

It was a positive. She and he have great things to say. Wiltfong spoke to someone who said that the announcement date is a good thing for the Irish

Oh and for good measure Wiltfong put down a CB today

I think we take two. Hinish would go to Penn State

Why do you think he would decommit if we added two more DTs?

Depth Chart

With out a transfer or injury might not play for two to three years. We beat out Penn State may come back and offer playing time sooner.

Also with adding (hopefully) Mustipher in the 2018 Class with Ademiola already in the class.

Obviously we have some bodies in front of Mr. Ewell at DT and they would've been in the system for awhile, but he is going to show up and immediately contribute to the DT rotation. Something ND doesn't get very often.

I thought I read somewhere that Hinish was a huge Irish fan, and once we offered, it was over.......I don't believe he's going anywhere.

If Ewell is at Notre Dame next Fall, I think he will have a Tillery-like freshman season

Totally agree. We have a lot of bodies but after Cage, Jones and Tillery there are a lot of bodies that are just...there. I really like Hinnish and, potentially, Ewell to push for time early.
Hell, if we manged to add Wills, whom Wiltfong has said could be a great player on D, I'd put him at DT first. Can never have too much quality depth on the DLine.

Highly doubt it. His best friend is locked in with ND and unless that changes, I don't see this changing. Also, we didn't take any DT's last year and we've seen that ND is willing to let 5th year seniors walk, if they aren't going to contribute. That's my guess at what happens with guys like Tiassum, Mokwuah, etc.(if they aren't performing). In general, this is a straw man argument if PSU tried to use it.

We could find a reason to be concerned about all recruits if we want to, doesn't make it accurate. I'll eat crow if I'm wrong

I think Wills ends up in South Bend and I agree that his first look should be on the d-line.

Isn't that the truth! Hinish loves ND...I think we are good there.

Plus, I guarantee they have told him from the beginning that they were looking for at least 3 DT's this cycle. I doubt Hinish thought he'd be coming in to compete for snaps this year. He needs a redshirt year in '17 and to see if the non producers at DT wash out by '17 & '18. At worst, a year of special teams puts him in good position to compete for real clock in '19. Could be this decades Derek Landri.

I would not sleep on MDT and Elijah Taylor...
