That's pretty cool! Speaking of Black Sabbath, thanks to Ticketmaster's lawsuit I just got 2 free tickets to see them in Dallas in August!

Some of the stuff in that most recent spoiler post was off, and some of it was missing, but much of it is stuff that would be a great open for season 7.

I'm pumped that Jon stood with Davos over Mel, which was contrary to the rumors.

Yeah, I think I feel the same way, simply because Davos is one of the very few characters in the world that is completely above moral reproach.

As a fan of Jon, I just worry that it's going to screw him over in the very end somehow.

Here's to hoping that Mel shows up in a time of great need to atone for her sins, rather than looking for vengeance.

I usually am a pretty patient guy... I know that during a season finale, I'll be getting my fill, and I can usually hold out pretty well until the next season without feeling too anxious or like I'm being tortured. I forget things and move on until it's time to re-hash just prior to April.

Not so now. That episode was a perfect finale, IMO. I'm already impatient for season 7. Maybe it's because the biggest reveals have been made or confirmed, and now it's simply about seeing how the final battle sets up and goes down.

Season 7 Cold Open:
Black screen. Slowly, a flame grows in the middle of the screen. It continues to grow, and we realize it's actually a torch in a dark corridor, getting closer. Still shot of Jon's face in the torch light as he's arrived at the camera.

We then see Jon move forward, and follow him with his torch. Past big, dark, imposing Stark tombs, one by one. He arrives at his father's tomb, and sees the burial places for his entire family. His is not included.

He moves past, to where Lyanna's tomb is... but her likeness is accompanied by another. The camera pans over to the base of a pedestal, and slowly rises, to see the base of a harp.

Cut to black, Opening Credits roll.

So based on this season what do we think will be in Winds?

Jon lives
RL=J
KitN

Battle of the Bastards
KotV help in some way

Dany wins battle of fire
Heads west with ironborn

Tommen dies

Freys die

Arya heads west

That's my best guess

Here is what I think will happen next week, partially based on the previews and partially based on my educated predictions:

1) Bran tells Meera/Benjen about the Rat Cook story Old Nan told him.
2) Scene with Sansa/Littlefinger. Nailed it
3) Scene with Davos/Melisandre. I think he might kill her. Pretty close
4) Scene with Dany and Daario banging. Pretty close
5) Sam arrives at the Citadel. Nailed it
6) Scene with Jon/Sansa. Nailed it
7) Arya kills a bunch of Freys and definitely Walder Frey. She does this by posing as a cook's assistant and poisons food or something like that. I don't think they will be served Frey Food. I believe she has been described as having a "rat's face" before and this will tie into the Rat Cook story Bran tells. Edmure possibly dies as well. Jaime survives. Wrong about Frey food but got this pretty close
8) Cersei trial. I have no idea how this is going to go. I could see them actually killing her off. Tommen then snaps and kills the High Septon and all hell breaks loose.
9) Jon visits the crypts. Simultaneously Bran goes back in time and Jon somehow joins him in his vision. Together they/we get the R + L = J reveal. Eh, close enough
10) Obligatory final Dany scene. Probably something with Euron's ships approaching and the dragons flying around over her head. Almost nailed it.

Tyrion will be in there somewhere...maybe Jorah if we are lucky. No Jorah :(

If we get all that shit packed into the last episode I will be very satisfied.

It has been assumed for so long that R+L=J that last night's official reveal was overshadowed a bit. It truly is one of the coolest twists/plot points in the history of literature and so immensely important in the grand scheme of ASoIaF that I hate GRRM for waiting this long to allow other people to figure it out before he revealed it himself.

Think so? I thought it was always pretty obvious and paled in comparison to the Red Wedding.

That's why I get frustrated at the nitpicking of the show, because the root of any of it actually goes back to that fat bastard GRRM. If he would have finished his story instead of galavanting around to every comicon or media appearance he could find, maybe he could have told us all of the plot twists instead of a bunch of dudes on Reddit. A lot of the stuff was ruined because there was so much damn time for people to put the puzzle together. GRRM left clues to every plot point throughout the books, which made it easy in today's world for people to essentially write the story for him.

I don't mean to dog on GRRM too bad, as he is a great writer, but he's also a lazy, fame hungry son of a bitch.

I didn't start reading the books until 4-5 years ago when people had already figured it out. But I think if he released TWoW a year or two after the last book it would have been a huge shock.

Have you re-read the books? That's when I figured it out... second reading of A Game of Thrones after having read the rest of the books once.

Yup, exactly this. You give people a decade to puzzle stuff out (and the internet to facilitate discussion) and you will eventually have every logical plot direction puzzled out assuming he left a clue or two in the text pointing towards it.

Yes, I'm with you guys.

The fact that GRRM left clues showing where he was going to go ... that's what makes him a GOOD writer. When an ending seems to come out of nowhere, it tends to be less satisfying and the reader can feel manipulated. Good writing involves introducing something that you are going to use later at early points in the story before the significance of the thing you've introduced is fully known. (Or at least that's what they taught me in the writing workshop I took in college to fulfill my fine arts requirement. Lol.)

So it really bothers me when people criticize the show/book for being "predictable." A good work of art should always be at least somewhat predictable to a smart reader/viewer. At the very least, the smart reader should be able to discern a couple of alternative paths the story could take; there should not be innumerable paths it can take. If it feels like the story could really go anywhere, THAT'S sloppy writing. That's soap opera writing. It's cheap, it shows a lack of a plan, and it sucks.

GRRM's mistakes were just (a) creating a product that was too popular, so it was endlessly picked over, and (b) lacking some self-discipline in finishing what he started efficiently and concisely. People had time to read books multiple times before the next book came out, and on second and third readings, they were able to read the signposts. That's his fault only in the sense that he should have been able to shorten the series, rather than relentlessly expanding it by indulging his every whim as to a new POV character or chapter, and finish the series earlier; it shouldn't be held against him that there are signposts at all.

Anybody interested in doing a group re-read over the next few months? I'd be happy to coordinate the schedule.

That prick is gonna take another two years to finish TWoW, and he's gonna blame it on making changes to reflect what people liked about the show.

Goddamit.

Make it coincide with the start of football season and I'm in.

It'll help pass the time from Saturday-to-Saturday.

That's not his real twitter, it's a parody account. Also, I think the implication is that he'd kill her off, not include more of her.

You can try but I have a feeling you will have trouble containing yourself to one chapter per week once you get started.
One chapter per week would take us like six years. I was thinking something closer to one chapter per night.
I might be down for this. Would be a first read for me.
I'd hope to have the discussion open to future implications of the current readings. Potential spoilers, but if you're caught up on the show there's not much you don't already know.

Yeah I realized that after my post.

His real twitter is just a shameless promotion for his weird theater business. He's only addressed his writing on Twitter once or twice. I should've known better when I saw it.

He's gonna do a whole Tolkien spin, I'll bet.

Go back in time and write the early annals, etc.

It's gonna happen. And the movies and shows will be ridiculous hits.
