Will be a good battle this spring between him and Coney.

I just hope that he can play on or near the same level as Coney. If he can do that, it's a position that we can rotate a lot easier than on the dline. Having fresh legs with no drop off gives us a really solid situation there.

Elston had this to say a couple weeks back. Found it interesting.

'“Our WILL linebacker walks out of the box at times,” Elston said. “They get that training all the time. The linebackers are reading triangles. When you are outside, the triangle is bigger, but it is still a triangle read to the end man on the line of scrimmage. The WILL linebacker has a smaller triangle inside the box but still reading the back down to the offensive line.”

Driskell's opinion is this as well as the amount of inventory that they put on the Will's plate, had noticeably slowed down Bilal at times during practice.

To be honest this doesn't seem to be overwhelmingly different than other schemes. Maybe I'm wrong and he's just taking time to adjust like all freshmen do

One thing urban had said which makes sense is potential is a scary word. Let's just hope that we aren't saying he has a lot of potential this time next year because that means he's not living up to it

Pretty sure we recruit everyone on potential.

Anna walked up behind him today and thought it was Jaylon. Said he's bigger, ~ 230 according to him

That's good news.
But seeing a random offseason thread bump like this one rarely is.

Bilal beefed up and impressed during the spring. James beefed up. Coaches raved about Nyles Morgan and his improvement and how proud they are of him. You never know, our LB's may end up being the strength of our defense. Can't wait to see them get after it! Can't wait to see a physically competent Mack out there hitting people.

On a positive note I thought he had the best game of his career today. Off season with Balis to add bulk and he could be a real player.

Agree with this, hope he hits the off season hard and excels next year.

Is bulk good? What if Elko and Lea keep him at Rover? Per ND, he and Tranquill are the exact same size.

I'm hoping JOK is ready to take over at Rover next season.

I would guess it depends on how much bulk you add. If it is decreasing the body fat and adding 5-10 pounds without losing any agility or speed...IMO that's a good thing. We need two Rovers that rotate to keep fresh legs so I am hoping both of them step up and do well. I'm not worried about who starts as long as they do the job.

Bilal will have no prob w/ body fat. He showed up like looking like an NFL safety. Hindsight being 20/20, might have been better to not pack on the weight and let him play SS. He played at 205 in HS but they have to have him at Rover next year, no one else destined to play the position has taken a snap in college.

I agree. I noticed him more today than the rest of the season combined.

Any idea why Bilal played so much? Was someone hurt? Or better matchup? Agree he might have been better off as a safety.

Any chance they just realized it was the second to last game and Drue is leaving so they needed some experience for next year? Meaning, they were thinking Drue was coming back and only recently discovered that wasn't likely?

I'll go on record and say Simon starts 0 games in '18.

Unless there's a severe outbreak of The Longoknees Flu.

Hopefully this is remains a fluid situation and they get some real competition from JOK and Robertson.

I sense a respect move by the staff towards the senior. The under current from the few analysts that I respect as far as identifying talent (instead of regurgitating others' thoughts) is that JOK is the man.

If it's even close, you use Bilal as first man in behind Buck and Rover and he gets his start vs FSU on Senior Day. With that, he'll still get plenty of snaps.

Maybe the light finally went on. There's something to be said for age and experience over freshmen.

It certainly could, and I hope it does, but I'm not sure how you could make that decision prior to Spring practice. His problem is instincts, and since LSU, he's had no live reps to determine if his instincts are getting better. I certainly agree that as a senior, you roll him out there for first team reps to start Spring ball. I just hope that the staff is willing to look at all options, including moving Drue back to Rover, should that make sense.
