How do they actively recruit twice as many WR's as DT's including committed players like Hezikiah Jones? Are there more hours in other coach's days? ND does a good job with flips, they know how to play the game. They have to because they have a smaller herd when it comes to recruiting. The answer is you recruit them all. In this case, they have the obvious advantage with Cage. ND's in his face everyday. You absolutely stay in contact with him weekly. You let him know where he's at on your board and when his position gets to crowded at OSU that you'll be there for him if space is still available in South Bend.

As far as you thinking the 3 you listed are much more talented... I can respect a man who goes out on a limb against the CW and picks a 3 star over higher rated guys. I don't see it with Wade-Perry. Ewell I like because he can play both sides of the ball. Rogers I just like period., maybe more than any DT in this class but he's a lot closer to LA than SB and I have no expectation of him going Irish.

Back to Cage, I like connections, they provide leverage, they provide opportunity. Have a plan, stay in front of him and make him feel wanted even if he's not that high on your list at the moment because like I alluded to above... everybody gets better looking at closing time.

But how do you really feel about bar skanks

Seriously though agree with you 100%

Well the time it took to offer him says all you really need to know. His brother has had his ups and downs at Notre Dame, but seemed to turn the corner last fall for the most part. However, the family isn't exactly the easiest to deal with, so there are more than a few red flags on Cage other than his talent.

You bring up a great point in that Notre Dame knows how to flip a kid, so their lack of urgency and effort to recruit him also speaks volumes. Yes, there is more than a fair chance he gets run out of Ohio State with some of the names they are in for at DT, as OSU is almost full.

The difference in recruiting multiple players at the same position is the facts of recruiting the players you want, but also the players you realistically have a shot out. Hezekiah Jones is open to Notre Dame and showed that by making the trip to the spring game on his own dime. I dont know if you can truly that Cage is coming to Notre Dame on his own dime to see Notre Dame in the times he has visited the campus. Does he sit with the recruits or with the players families? That's all you really need to know.

The reason he has the offer is exactly what you said, everyone comes more attractive at the end of the cycle, so he knows Notre Dame isn't tossing him a petty offer in January. There is a relationship there, but it's not one that really means anything either way right now, because he isn't a guy Notre Dame is recruiting hard, much less he hasn't shown much interest back.

There is WAY more than meets the eye here that you do not know about. I'm not here to say the staff is infallible, but in Cage's case, they have good reason not to recruit him hard at this time. It's fluid, and things can change, but for now, I completely understand their reticence.

Really interested because the staff doesn't seem that interested. Would be a good idea of him to work out tomorrow

Go to OSU and be the 4th best DT in their class... or come to ND and be the highlight of their D-Line class

OK fine. Then how did he get there? Did he crash the party uninvited? Am I missing something?

Maybe the staff wants to see him workout which sounds like isn't in the plan. I never asked the school if I could come see my brother for the weekend

OK. If he's just going to be on campus in his brother's room and not at the stadium while II is going on then that's one thing. 247 made it sound like he was attending II enough so that someone here on the board posted it. If he's at the stadium tomorrow with the other players and coaches, it is not by accident.

So a Google search finds this from earlier today on Bucknuts/247

If anybody thinks this isn't a recruiting trip, they need to take up needlepoint or bingo.

When Daniel Cage was a star defensive tackle for Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods he had a very nice list of scholarship offers that included his eventual choice, Notre Dame. Cage’s list did not include Ohio State.

When his younger brother Jerron began to draw attention from recruiters Urban Meyer told him he wasn’t going to miss out on offering him. Meyer did indeed offer, Jerron accepted, and that was that.

Except that some schools have continued to recruit Jerron who Bucknuts spoke with on Friday morning as he walked around watching the Buckeyes 1-Day Position Camp.

“Notre Dame and Michigan State are still recruiting me. I’m visiting Notre Dame, you know my brother is there,” Jerron said indicating the visit was to be with his brother.

Then on Friday afternoon word began to circulate that Jerron was visiting Notre Dame on Saturday, possibly as a recruit. Bucknuts again spoke with Jerron.

“I’m going to Irish Invasion with my brother,” Jerron said. “It’s not a (recruiting thing). I’m 100% committed to Ohio State. They know I’m going (to Notre Dame on Saturday).”

Jerron now stands 6-foot-3 and 275-pounds as he prepares for his senior season. Jerron and Haskell Garrett form an outstanding defensive tackle duo committed to the Buckeyes.

His brother is a boss. If he ended up no better than him, then he's still a great take, imo. I can't imagine why someone wouldn't want him. I'm pretty sure that if recruiting ratings were redone for Daniels class, he would skyrocket. He's a legitimate player for us. He played 11 games for us as a true freshman when we had a 5 star freshman and several four star players with experience at his position. So this is about brainer take. Like all day.

That being said, does anyone know if he is actually taking part in II? Seems like he's posturing it as just a visit with his brother. We all know how these things can go though. He wouldn't say that this is a big visit and he is considering us to Urban. Regardless of whether it was true or not.

I don't think he's camping, that's why I said it would be good for him too.

Interesting. I wonder how the staff is going to play this? Honestly, it would be great if he participated, but he seems like someone that thinks of himself as a better personality fit at OSU. Maybe he is a guy that would get more benefit by hanging out with current players than other recruits. Daniel is well liked by the team. So even if he doesn't participate in the camp, maybe there is more to gain by having him bond with all of his brothers friends, which are the players currently on the team.

Having your bro be there may not always be the best for an easy recruitment. Beyond the individualistic concerns...Little bro sees everything....good, bad, ugly...he hears frustrations, but maybe not always the conclusion from big Bro and friends of Big Bro. Most programs are pretty similar w regard to the "politics" of being a puppy...so tOSU won't change anything...but I've been young cage (albeit not in football), and I know why I didn't choose to follow my brother. And I will tell you it was a mistake it took me a decade to overcome...but at the time, I lacked the wisdom to know better, and the willingness/ability to be guided by those who had it. Shrug.
