The game is on ABC, which means there is a 100% chance bunny ears (which cost $5) will get it. I'm sure you could procure a VCR and tape to use for free. Yes, you absolutely will be able to tape the game from bunny ears.

*as someone said earlier: figuring out how to set the timer will be the fun part. Comedians in the 80's stayed in business making jokes about this.

Looks like I'm on a mission to buy some bunny ears this weekend. Updates to follow. IE in the clutch.

If you figure out how to program the VCR, you are a better man than 99.9999999% of us that grew up at the mercy of them.

Okay you have a few options here and none of them may work but if you haven't came up with anything by Game Day try these.

I know you said streaming isn't available on planes but there may be ways to get around it.

See if YouTube works. YouTube has a ton of live-streams on there if you can find them. I found the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight on YouTube and that's how I watched it. (before the "You're poor" comments, I was in college. And sh*t why pay when you can get it for free? That fight was sh*t anyways)

Try streaming websites like Alluc.eu, Watchsports.eu, FirstRowSportes.com etc. Just Google "live streams" or "Notre Dame vs Texas Live Stream" you'll find something.

Try downloading the ESPN app and seeing if it will work (probably won't).

If all else fails, do some research by following the link below. Find some forums and see how people are doing it. I can guarantee you there are ways around it. Good luck.

Let me google that for you

Had only heard of one of those, but will definitely try. I did a fair amount of googling before I came here (hence the "only hope" part) and all I got was "I'm so sad I couldn't watch ESPN on my southwest flight". I appreciate the help though - will definitely take note of those sites and see just how well equipped that Southwest firewall is!

But yes unless she is wife material fuck that wedding.

Trust me, we wouldn't be discussing this if she wasn't. Beautiful, smart (ND grad), funny - the whole package.

So, from personal experience....

Our flight back from Vegas was on Sunday, on Southwest, during the Notre Dame / SFA game, and I had the same fears.

However, Southwest does have, on most flights now, have in flight WiFi. When you log in, you are hijacked to their little portal page, that has a variety of things you can watch. One of which is some TV stations. I believe ESPN is one of those stations.

I actually watched the majority of the ND / SFA game on the flight home.

It was actually pretty reliable for the most part.

EDIT: Lol, never mind. Just went and looked. They don't have ESPN. You're welcome for the false hope (but you may have known this already).

Not always. Where I live bunny ears will not work.
I looked into the cost once years ago and it was gonna cost me something like 2000 bucks to get a set up that would get me free HD before all the suppliers started offering it for free.
Have any of you tried that internet based setup that dish network started. Slingo tv or something like that. This may work in a pinch for our padawan.

FIFY.

Haven't tried it but I hear it's the way to go. A little spotty depending on internet connection but it's pretty good. You also get a username and everything to watch on the channel's websites in case you miss a show. So if you had HBO in your package you could watch GoT, Ballers, etc. on HBO-GO.

She is an ND fan (and alumna). It pains me that we're having this problem... I always laugh at the guys on here who say stuff like "oh, my girlfriend won't let me go, blah blah blah" and think the same thing. This is my punishment.

Yeah this was my girlfriend's first argument too -_-

There may be someone that streams the game online as well. I never used them frequently and haven't for several years but I believe they're still out there. Just beware of ones with overly intrusive ads or a convoluted registration process.

My fantasy football league drafts on Labor Day weekend every year during the first college football Saturday. Everyone is in town, and everyone is ready to day drink for the games, and everyone is ready to draft what they foolishly believe to be a championship squad. I look forward to this day all year, every year. And it's a big deal to have it fit so well with everyone's schedule, because we play for big money.

Last year, one of the guys had a sister get married that weekend, and tried to completely ruin our draft plans. He argued that it wouldn't be fair to make him draft remotely while he was doing wedding stuff with his family because of how much money was on the line, but he also wasn't willing to do the draft a day later.

I told him to gtfo and educate his family better in the future.

He allowed us to draft for him.

Yeah, I blame the male in the scenario.

Up here, U of North Dakota and North Dakota St were playing for the first time in over a decade (111 all-time meetings). Some clowns scheduled a wedding for that day and got shamed in the local papers for it.

I feel for him but he needed to STFU and take his lumps for having a low IQ sister with a dumb ass husband.

I had this problem before. I was a groomsman in a Saturday wedding so I recorded the game (ND vs Georgia Tech probably 8 years ago or so). I told everyone including the groom, who understood because he was my roommate and knew my level of fandom, not to talk about the game or give any kinds of updates. The day was going as planned when it happened. We were sitting at the head table and the photographer says, "hey ND is getting beat by GT 28-7". It was immediate and gut wrenching. I put so much effort into not hearing the game I couldn't believe it ended like that.

After the first disappointment of trying to watch a taped game it took me about 4 years to try it again. The wife wanted to go to the casino for the night for our anniversary. We could have watched the entire game at one of the bars in the casino, but I know my wife didn't want to be there to spend 4 hours of a night with no kids sitting at the bar (even though she said it was fine). The game was ND vs Miami and by best friend went to Miami. We had planned on watching the game together on Sunday. Long story short we make it through the night without hearing the game. We go to her parents house to pick up our kid and the first thing her father says is, "great game ND played last night". My wife specifically told her parents to not talk about the game because we were recording it.

My point is, you are Fucked. Good luck, you'll need it. I hope you have better success than I did.

Yes October 7th. It is actually a great date. October 7th has only been on a Saturday one time since I've been married and that was the wedding day, not that it would matter much. My wife loves football and after that Miami game fiasco we will not record again. She felt so bad about it.

Let dshans hit you with his car.

He drives real slow, so you will probably only be hurt, not maimed. This will give you at least the night in the hospital. Free food, your own tv, drugs.... What more can you ask for?

Recording the game is not going to work. There is no chance whatsoever that you will make it back to your recording without being spoiled. Someone at the wedding will say something to you. You will get antsy and check the phone. Something will happen that will ruin it.

Your only option is to watch live. Can you afford the $150 fee (or something around there) to change your flight?

If he is feeling ballsy, he can try doing a same-day flight change and the fee could be significantly less($25-$50).

All I have to do is survive a plane ride and a short ride back to my apartment. Planning on having my phone turned off completely and going to let me girlfriend be the martyr if we have to search online or anything like that. It will be a great challenge, but I'm willing to tackle it.

Just keep noise-cancelling head-phones on for the entire flight and ensuing walk through the airport.

Don't look at any television screens... maybe tell your girlfriend that you are effectively going to be blind and def during and after the flight, and ask her to lead you through the airport as you look only at the ground. Perhaps put a leash on and attach it to her?

Don't turn on the car radio on the way home.

Lastly, have your girlfriend turn the tv on and play your tape recording before you enter the room when you get home. It is a near guarantee that the karma of the universe will have ABC announcing the score of the ND game at the exact moment you turn your TV on with the generic cable station still playing, regardless of what time it is.

All I had to do was pick my kid up and drive 1 mile to my house. I think you are underestimating how difficult this is.
