First, ask yourselves if this thread has similarly devolved. Will IE members continue accusations against each other's sides, personal attacks on each other's candidates but, hopefully, not between each of us as events unfold.
Second, I'll point out again that everyone has the right to free speech including each candidate and their supporters, which I hope would be respected. That's the basis for this board.
Third, I've never seen a nominee advocate physical violence against a protester disruptive or not. I'd hope that he would call for restraint and reason. You would want an election to be decided on the issues. The 1976 Republican convention, which was contested, resulted in "melees" between opposing partisans, dumping trash, ripping phones, punches thrown.
As for the convention, the 1968 Democratic convention resulted in 1100 injured (400 of whom were sent to the ER) , 300 newsmen injured, fights and insults on the convention floor. Mayor Daley had 22,500 police, National Guard and federal troops against 10,000 unarmed demonstrators. Without any change in the tenor of this election, who thinks that guns will not be used in 2016, that issues will not be discussed, nor will this descend into further personal slurs and attacks.
I have enjoyed sharing opinions and links, but feel that I need to withdraw from this, leaving it up to the rest of you. Can't wait for football to begin again. Cheers.
