Did anyone hear me comment on how much more physically developed Kizer is becoming? From his sophomore year in high school to now the changes are miraculous. The last year and a half being phenomenal.

I know a sea bass that would agree with me.

Well considering he was holding a clipboard into fall camp last year and now he has a full offseason to come into his own he should be. Reminds me from a physical standpoint (as well as how the ball flies out of his hand) of Jameis Winston, in that while he's not necessarily dynamic in space, he's big and athletic like a tight end. Come to think of it the way the ball flies out of his hand reminds me of Winston as well.

Are you guys trying to tell me that a 6'5" athlete in a college program is getting bigger and stronger?

That is preposterous, I say!

Also said he reminds me of Winston last year. Big body who stays in the pocket longer than a typical QB. He moves around the pocket a lot like Winston.

I think that as a big QB, especially one with a somewhat high release point, you're afforded the luxury of staying in the pocket longer because you can still release over the O-line even if the interior linemen are in your face, and can often stay in control of your feet long enough to secure the ball even if you end up getting hit. A QB of Malik's height would be bouncing the ball off the center's head if the pocket collapses.

My prediction this year : If he plays, everyone will be saying, "His feet move better than I thought! He is deceptively dynamic in space!" Or something similar.

Count me in on Team Kizer. But please stop with the Winston comparisons. Winston is a rapist, Kizer isn't. Show some damn respect.

He's like Hitler but good at football. Better?

But seriously personal life comparison notwithstanding I don't think comparing our QB to a Heisman winning #1 overall draft pick QB on the field is anything but a compliment.

If there was a drop off I would lay it on the team just as much as Kizer.

But, I don't typically like to speak in absolutes as in Kizer dropped off by the end of the year. He was really, really good against Stanford and decent against Ohio State. It's not like he ended the season on a bad note.

I can see how the Wake/BC games it seemed like Kizer was leveling off, though. No question. Still, he did pick things up in the final prime time games which is a big reason why the national media have tabbed him as a rising star.

Kizer's Game stats to support this

I agree Rocket.

I don't see a statistically significant dropoff by Kizer at all. His worst passer rating was Wake Forest and he completed almost 70% of his passes. He wasn't asked to do much more because our ground game was torching them. Boston College was his worst game statistically. His completion percentage dropped in 3 of our last 4 games but in the air he combined for 3 TDs, 1 INT and over 500 yards between Stanford and Ohio State. On the ground he added 150 yds and 2 TDs. So he accounted for 5 TDs, 1 Int and 650 yards of offense by himself.

Led us on a TD drive with under 1 minute remaining to almost close the game against Stanford (he also ran for 128 against Stanford). So how does one define "dropoff"?

Team Malik, like both guys, but agree on the Winston comparisons. Even if we're not talking about the off the field stuff, don't want Kizer to ever pull this:

Sharing this from a poster at DD:

Hi all,

I wanted to tell everyone a quick story about our wonderful QB. Anyway, my uncle and I are die hard Irish fans, as are the rest of our family . Unfortunately my uncle has been dying of advanced cancer for about a year. He is entering the final stages of his life. Although we live in California, our family is from Toledo. Anyway someone at Kizer's HS, asked me to send info about my uncle and his struggle. I did so, never really expecting anything to come of it .

Yesterday Deshone called my uncle and I and had some incredible inspiring words of support. What an incredible young man. He told me one of the greatest parts about being the ND QB is being able to touch lives and make a difference in the world. Well he did just that with my family and I wanted to share a text message and prayer he sent to me to read to my uncle. I hope you enjoy.

"Dear Lord,
May you lift Bobby's spirits high, fill his mind with your truth, and cover his heart with hope.
Protect him always, may he feel safe and secure besides you. Walk with him through each moment. Come be strength when he feels weak, be counsel when he needs comfort. Help him to rest, to lay down when he needs to and allow others to take the strain. Lord I pray that throughout this hard time he may know our love for him and Your love for all those around him. May he continue to inspire those close to him the way he inspires me. In your name I pray, amen.

Keep fighting the good fight Uncle Bobby. May the luck of the Irish be with you.

Your friend,
DeShone"

Truly a wonderful young man and a great example of what it means to be the head guy at ND. Thanks again Deshone !!!!!

That is awesome. I kind of preferred Malik, but it's hard not to root for Kizer after seeing that.

If put my money on Kizer all day but wouldn't be completely shocked if Zaire won the job and would not be worried at all.

I'd personally be completely shocked if Kizer wasn't named starter, but that may be just me. Kizer is a known quantity at this point, Zaire isn't IMO.

I'll never count out Zaire. He's was MVP of a very impressive win over LSU, in his first start no less. While they were inconsistent, Texas did find a way to beat OU last year, and Zaire completely dismantled them. We'll be fine whoever leads us.

I would name the other guy as starter if I were BK, and then pull the switch opening series against Texas. THEN, I would start the other guy against Nevada.

Eff everyone, throw out the game tapes, we got a game in the fog coming up!

Just kidding.

But there is some romance to it, isn't there?

I think Kizer will be the starter but I think you will see a lot of Malik Zaire. I think Malik could be the go to guy in the redzone short yardage. Regardless we should be blowing out some of the teams we play. Both should see the field a lot.
