Yea this is more about his brother than starting versus Texas than his recruitment, as of now. I think the staff is going to try and gauge his want but as of now there isn't much interest from Jerron.
Lot of time till NSD 2017...

If he leaves and we're a distant #2, that's a win IMO. Never know what can happen to a coach/team/program/school in 2 years.

This has OSU pressure written all over it. If ND plays well the rest of the year, many schools are gonna have be extra diligent with their commits.

Would love to add a DT of his caliber to this team. Oh well, he's '17 commit, we have time to pull him in.

His game was originally scheduled for Friday night but we had bad storms here and a lot of games were pushed to Saturday. Guessing that might have been the reason he wasn't able to attend to see his brothers start. Either way sounds like he is all buckeye.

Looks like he got offered by ND

I am a little confused why this took so long, but I guess it's better than not offering. We will have to put in some serious work to get him to flip at this point, so am glad we still have the remainder of this cycle and all of the next. It just doesn't make sense for us to have waited so long.

I still think he is going to blaze his own trail. Hopefully he follows his brother though

The kid is only a Junior. I know recruiting has sped up a ton but it's still way early.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer has turned into a FOSU rag. There are 10 dumbass articles a day on OSU football. You can't find the scores on Saturdays from the other colleges in the area in there like JCU and BW but they post articles like "Five ways OSU can beat Maryland". Get the fvck out of here.

When you schedule like a scared little bitch you have to be creative to make every game sound like it's critical.

Interesting stuff coming out of the Oakland Opening Regional. Jay Tufele had the following to say to Barton Simmons of 247:

Jay Tufele, DT, South Jordan (Utah) Bingham - I thought Tufele was a wide-bodied space-eating defensive tackle that can push the line of scrimmage backwards. What I learned on Sunday is that while he's still all of those things, he's also one of the quickest interior defenders I've seen on the camp circuit this year. The Army All-American called Ohio State his leader on Sunday.

Lets hope OSU really is his leader and he goes there. That would put the #3 and #4 DT's ahead of #6 Jerron Cage. They aren't all going there. Another ND offer, #8 Darnell Ewell is thought to be a heavy OSU lean too. I'd really like to see Cage feel overlooked by his homestate team and join his brother in South Bend.

Something else to keep in mind about the OSU logjam at DT... They currently hold all 14 CB's for the top two DT's in year's class, Taron Vincent and Matt Jones.

OSU deffinitely can't get them all.

...and what's up with Rutger Reitmaier??? He's up to #7 on 247, visited ND on his own dime last year, was open about his interest and I've not heard a thing.

Didn't we say that about Stanford with all of those safeties?

Those were 3 star's with some 4's sprinkled in. These are all franchise recruits, 4 & 5 stars. They all wanna play, they all wanna be the man. Not enough snaps for them all.

The staff isn't really recruiting Jarron Cage because they aren't that high on him. Hence why we aren't pushing at all right now. I would be surprised if he joined the ND class, don't know if he could right now if he wanted too

At closing time, who you go home with isn't about who's at the top of your board, its about who's left on the board.

Yes, so in December get him up for the banquet and see how he plays during his senior year. I am sure he will come watch his brother a lot this year so no need to rush this recruitment.

There is only so much time in the day. If you're Gilmore, why try to recruit a kid committed to Ohio State that you're not overly high on?

Recruit Darnell Ewell. Recruit Dayln Wade-Perry. Recruit Greg Rogers. They aren't committed, high on Notre Dame and much more talented.

Everyone wants all these rush ends...it's not easy to recruit all the DEs and DTs you want, much less kids further down on the board that are committed to another school. There are priorities and as of now Cage isn't a massive priority with him being committed.

How do they actively recruit twice as many WR's as DT's including committed players like Hezikiah Jones? Are there more hours in other coach's days? ND does a good job with flips, they know how to play the game. They have to because they have a smaller herd when it comes to recruiting. The answer is you recruit them all. In this case, they have the obvious advantage with Cage. ND's in his face everyday. You absolutely stay in contact with him weekly. You let him know where he's at on your board and when his position gets to crowded at OSU that you'll be there for him if space is still available in South Bend.

As far as you thinking the 3 you listed are much more talented... I can respect a man who goes out on a limb against the CW and picks a 3 star over higher rated guys. I don't see it with Wade-Perry. Ewell I like because he can play both sides of the ball. Rogers I just like period., maybe more than any DT in this class but he's a lot closer to LA than SB and I have no expectation of him going Irish.

Back to Cage, I like connections, they provide leverage, they provide opportunity. Have a plan, stay in front of him and make him feel wanted even if he's not that high on your list at the moment because like I alluded to above... everybody gets better looking at closing time.
