“Yes. They hit me up every day,” said the 2017 recruit, when asked if Notre Dame is pushing hard for him. “Actually, [defensive line] coach Keith Gilmore told me last night, and he told my uncle, that Brian Kelly said that if I get my scores and everything right, that I’m the No. 1 one priority in the class. That’s really nice. That made me feel special.”
“Oh yeah,” said Thomas, when asked if Notre Dame improved its chances and entered his top group. “With Coach Kelly hitting me up. He let me know I’m the No. 1 priority, so yeah, that felt really good. They moved up.”
“We talk a lot, probably like twice or once a week,” said Thomas of Gilmore. “He talked to my mom and my mom told him that’s where she wants me to go. She’s favoring Notre Dame, so if he convinces me to go there, that’s where I’m at.
“I took [mom] up there for the Texas game last year. She loved it. They treated her like family. It’s been real cool since then.”
“He taught me a lot actually,” said Thomas, when asked about his conversations with Lyght. “I told him my weaknesses and last week at the Nike camp or whatever, because I went last week, I actually balled out. Because the fade ball, I’ve been having problems with that. I shut it down all last week.
“That’s real important because I’m trying to make it to the next level,” added Thomas, regarding getting coached by someone who genuinely knows what he’s doing. “If they take my talents and improve it, that’s real nice.”
“It was real cool. Just chill,” said Thomas. “Most of the coaches weren’t there, expect for mainly coach Gilmore. It was both [academics and athletics] really. Comparing other schools and looking at statistics and numbers. Notre Dame is No. 1 in academics and football. So, can’t go wrong with that.”
