I finally saw Yojimbo. I definitely see why Leone felt he needed to show this to the West.

Just watched "Jurassic World" for the first time, caught it on HBO last night.

So many plot holes. So many over-the-top plot points, even for a movie that is all about reanimating dinosaurs with modified DNA. For example, when they introduce Dinosaur Indiana Jones (Chris Pratt) to the Indominous Rex, they have to explain the additions to the enclosure, saying "we didn't know how big it would get."

MOTHERF*CKER YOU GENETICALLY ENGINEERED THE THING. You're telling me that you added chameleon and frog DNA to a velociraptor/t-rex hybrid but didn't have ANY way of knowing how big it would get?

#CmonMan

Another one: at the end, when they need help fighting the Indominous Rex, and the kid says "we need more teeth," the lady goes to fetch the t-rex. Good idea, yes! However, it's the dumbest shit in the world that she lights the flare, and is then able to out-run the t-rex on her way back to the big fight. First, she shouldn't be fast enough to do that. Second, the t-rex has been conditioned to find it's food based on a red flare (dumb in and of itself, considering it's supposed to be a master carnivore), so why wouldn't it eat her almost immediately when it sees her?

Also, the animations were bad at times, and they didn't even attempt to improve the "dumb kids get themselves in trouble" cliche.

However, despite how annoyed I was by the above plot holes (among others), I was entertained. I enjoyed Chris Pratt's character, as in just about everything he does, and the final showdown was actually pretty cool. It warmed my heart a little when Blue ended up teaming up with the t-rex to drive Big Bad Rex toward his demise.

watched it as a kid, but didn't really appreciate it like i'm sure I would now. have wanted to re-watch it, plus its sequel,,, and then Leone's trilogy. Also wanted to take a look at Corbucci's Django.

I wasn't as impressed with "Yojimbo" as I thought I'd be.

No? What were your issues? The main reason I didn't enjoy it more is because I already knew the plot and a lot of the techniques etc were present in movies I saw. But this was the original. It's one reason I'm not as impressed with Seinfeld as people who saw it when it first ran. Everything I've seen has been influenced by it.

Good list but no

All Quiet On The Western Front
Battleground
Gettysburg
Bridge On The River Kwai
Stalag 17
30 Seconds Over Tokyo
Enemy At The Gates
Sergeant York
Gallipoli
We Were Soldiers
Mrs Miniver
Best Years Of Our Lives

Yup anyone one of these could have replaced Three Kings or Jarhead

I guess it depends on what you mean by "Military Movies"

Schindler's List and Downfall for example don't exactly strike me as such...

Anyway, any list that doesn't include Paths of Glory is not a well thought out list imo, and shame of all of you for not mentioning it sooner ;)

I also have always had a special place in my heart for Hamburger Hill though that's more like how I have a special place in my heart for Road House...

I'm with you in that I felt like I'd already seen it. "Fistful of Dollars" hewed so closely to "Yojimbo" that Kurosawa sued and won. "Yojimbo" ragged a bit and there was too much broad acting. Mifune was great, but some of the supporting actors were mugging clowns. It was hard to take seriously. I'll give it another go one day. Maybe I was just in an uncharitable mood when I saw it.

I was listening to a podcast where the hosts say they have a friend whose done sound work on some major movies. They were discussing "Under Siege." Apparently, the source says that Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey were coked to the gills for the production. The say there's a reason Jones was wearing sunglasses almost the whole movie and had a perpetually clenched jaw. Hey, he is an intense guy. Now if Gary Busey was coked out of his gourd, would you even be able to tell?

AQOTWF is probably the most glaring omission. Any list of war movies that doesn't have that is either trolling or not worth their salt. I'd add The Grand Illusion too as a staple.

I can't believe no one has listed Captain America: The First Avenger.
