We've got some strong Terp Kool-Aid chugging going on!

Durkin won't finish higher than 4th in the Big Ten East at any point in his tenure. Highly, highly, highly unlikely that Maryland is a sleeping giant.

Also, Under Armour is a long way away from pulling the prestige and power that Nike can impact at a place like Oregon. Right now, $30.3 billion revenue versus $3.9 billion and a cultural gap just as large. In the big picture, Under Armour will do very little for Durkin at Maryland.

Plus, I'd rather be Oregon hitting California/West Coast hard in recruiting than Maryland's situation.

Just 23 4-stars in Maryland/Virginia/DC area and you'd have to be a huge homer to think the Terps influence will ever extend further than that. Makes matters worse that there are far more traditional blue-bloods (Alabama, Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State, ND, Tennessee, etc.) who will always come in and steal most of the top recruits.

I'm not one to pile on people that look like they won't pick ND, but I just can't find it in me to root for a guy who puts out a fake top 4 list just to pick a school that wasn't on it for the drama. He seems like a great kid off the field and has some real great educational goals in mind, so why does he do the prima donna thing right before his commitment?

Thank you. I felt like I was going crazy. It's Maryland.

I'd rather play an additional 3-4 years at IMG than at Maryland. At least you have a chance to win, and there will be a crowd.

Not surprised by the decision but fairly surprised by how it came about. This more than likely isn't over. Sounds like daddy's decision.

You guys keep busting on Maryland. If one of you were old enough, you'd have been the same guys who said Miami, FSU, Oregon, Stanford, K State, TCU, Baylor or Wisconsin could never turn it around. Hell, I've seen Northwestern have double digit wins in a season multiple times... and you guys think Maryland can't do it??? They did it under Friedgen 3 times in the late 90's / early 2000's.

Sure, with a competent coach you can do anything. Durkin sucks.

For me, it's less about Maryland and more about the current state of the B1G East.

With Ohio State, scUM, and Sparty all in really good places right now, there simply isn't enough room for Maryland to make that jump. One of those three is going to need to take a step back in order for a program like Maryland (or Indiana) to take a step forward and be the "surprise" contender.

Yeah they have schools ahead of them. Those 3 and Penn St too but there are schools that overcome the big dogs all the time. If someone would have told me Gary Pinkel would leave Toledo and go to Mizzou and lead the Tigers to 10+ win seasons (5 times) in the Big 12 AND the SEC, I'd have told them to set the crack pipe down.

Maryland (for the time being) is at least better than Michigan or Ohio St....don't think this one is over though.

The fact is that if he wants to go to Maryland, it's good that he commits now to see if his commitment draws other talent to consider them. That would have been my pitch if I was Maryland's staff anyway.

He can always decommit, but he can only recruit others if he himself is committed.

This.

AND I'll guarantee you he knows of others that are going to commit. They already have 4 star IMG DT Cam Spence who's from Maryland. they're after 4 star OLB Jordan Anthony who's also at IMG and from MD too. Most think they lead for 5 star DE Chance Young of DC and 4 star Josh Paschal of MD. They are battling PSU for 4 star Josh Proctor from MD.

Could you imagine Kaindoh, Young, Spence and Paschal in one haul? Yikes.

I have always said if you could get a good recruiting coach to have a little bit of success at MD they could be a good team. With the amount of talent in MD,DC,Northern DE,PA,WVU,OH, there is a chance for potential.
