The conversation isn't whether you or I believe DJ Durkin will bring them to the promise land. Its whether DJ Durkin and his recent success, has relevancy in a kids decision making process. I'd say it could play a part.

I agree, and never under estimate the Under Armor connection! UA is what got Durkin to Maryland, and its why the program has life. Local kids understand that connection very well. It's a big deal in Maryland, and has the reach to be a big deal elsewhere.

If only we had a big under armour contract!

My prediction is Maryland although I expect Kaindoh to still take visits following this decision-247 wiltfong

Maryland's definitely trending right now. Good for them. Good for Team Plank. Anything that changes the B1G - East power structure in football and Nike is gold to me.

When Maryland drops 4 of their first 6 games, Kaindoh will have an epiphany.

Maryland has a better chance of being 5-1 than 2-4 this fall.

...and then Sparty, Mich, OSU and trips to IU and Nebraska happen.

You guys are funny. Do you think the kid is unaware that Maryland usually sucks? I don't think if they suck again that the light bulb will suddenly turn on.

Actually, that's exactly what happens when a local school gets a new coach, creates a lot of buzz, and hits the local recruiting scene hard. ("We sucked because of [INSERT FORMER COACH"S NAME]. Things are different now because of [INSERT NEW COACH'S NAME]. Do you have any idea how much talent comes out of [INSERT REGION]. If we can just hold on to it, we're going straight to the top of the [INSERT CONFERENCE/DIVISION]!")

Once they get knocked down to reality, kids reassess and the vultures (Urban, Saban, etc.) move in to feed. Think Kentucky with Stoops.

Sometimes the good vibe carries through year 1, but they always lose a few prime kids in the process.

That's the beauty of getting local guys, they bring the pride factor from day 1 because it's home and aren't choosing a school based on what OTHER players achieved or Maryland's case, failed at in the past. Maryland's a sleeping giant with Plank's involvement. It's like Oregon only with a strong local talent base to recruit from.

Under Armor, i.e., gobs of UA money, is Maryland's one and only legitimate hope to crawl out of football mediocrity.

I disagree. Dominate Maryland/DC recruiting, be Top 3 in SE PA, NJ and VA and they'll be fine. Then it becomes a national spot. There's no doubt in my mind that Plank is going to make it happen. All he has to do is copy Phil's blueprint.

Right. Obviously UA money can't actually win football games! :) What I mean is that in order to keep ND, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and the rest of the ACC and SEC from pillaging Maryland and the DMV, they need mullah and hype. Enter UA.

Exactly and can you imagine how good Oregon would be if they didn't have to go to LA, TX and elsewhere to get their talent? In roughly the same distance between South Bend and Indy, Maryland covers from SE VA, Maryland, DC, NJ, Metro NYC and E PA. TONS of talent in their footprint and with Rivals and UA co-sponsoring these camps/combines/All-Star games coast to coast, Mr. Plank is reaching new kids everyday.

BTW, UA added Wisconsin and probably UCLA for this season. UCLA's contract will be bigger than OSU's Nike contract.
