Harbaugh's bigger miracle to me was fixing Alex Smith and riding him to an NFC title game. I think people forget just how much of a god awful shit-stain Alex Smith really was when Harbaugh took over the 49ers. Harbaugh turned Smith's entire career around. Smith was complete ASS, it was looking like he was going to go down as one of the bigger #1 overall busts in NFL draft history, and he rebounded that and has become a mediocre NFL starting QB. It's astonishing.

Kaep at least has an insane amount of talent and ability. The size, the frame, great speed, strength, and a rocket for an arm. Dude is a specimen. Smith is about as mediocre of a talent as they come, but one thing he does have is pretty decent running ability though, I'll give him that. His running ability still ain't Kaep though.

True but Urban turned Alex Smith into the number one overall pick and he has been rock solid with the Chiefs so IMO it's not that big of a miracle. Harbaugh brought the confidence back with Smith's game

So Reid is just riding the coattails of sleepover Jimmy, like Shaw? Or, perhaps, sleepover Jimmy was indeed a better coach than that freak singletary but the subsequent decline of ck after 2012 and Alex performing well in kc strains your theory?

Yeah, Smith always had some talent; he just wasn't worth the number 1 overall pick. He's got a good mind and some physical tools, he just doesn't have enough to be Peyton, Drew Brees, Tom Brady. His legs keep him productive though.

Kaep was amazing in that system, but he regressed every year and never developed any touch. He just hasn't been able to stay productive in a passing league.

I got nothing against Michigan. But this is the equivalent of a Kennedy going to UMass or a Bush going to UConn.

I'm tired of playing 3rd fiddle to OSU and Michigan in the Midwest when it comes to recruiting.

you and I both. After the 2013 season I thought we were going to be bringing in classes like that ever year. This class is off to a wonderful start but I mean looking at OSU class and Michigan's probable class I am jealous

Lol. Worked out privately for Stanford over the summer with Bailey Hockman. So it was just the two QBs and Stanford offered Hockman.

That's all your really need to know.

Gosh, you guys really need to either take a break or get a reality check. We didn't even offer this kid. So him going to Michigan should have nothing to do with your perception of our recruiting success. The staff clearly likes others better and for our system I'd rather have Hooker.

Yes, I would take Hooker over Davis and Dylan. We are off to a great start this year but after the 2013 class I thought recruiting would stay at that pace, IMO it's dropped off a bit. It's not like the world is coming to an end but IMO it has to improve.

We had zero 5 stars, ten 4 stars.

Michigan had one 5 star, fourteen 4 stars.

OSU had one 5 star, seventeen 4 stars.

A handful more of elite players per class usually adds up to a whooping.

I am guessing this is a generalized statement and not one directed at ND's efforts with D. McCaffrey. He doesn't seem to fit the Irish system so passing on him makes sense. As far as competing with UM and OSU, the Irish just need to concentrate on those players that fit their system and do what they can to sign them up. If they go somewhere else... wish them well and be happy with the ones that want to be at ND. Plenty of top notch talent out there that would love to play for the Irish.

You should probably be more tired of continually writing embarrassing posts on this message board.

And in response to your other post, you're posting in the wrong thread. We didn't even offer him (and neither did Stanford). How is that playing 3rd fiddle?

Yah, I hate beating Michigan in recruiting battles. Especially over kids from MI.

ND arguably took the top two kids in OH : Kraemer, Eichenberg
and the top two kids in MI: Kareem, Hayes..

New No. 1, five-stars in 247Sports Composite

New Five-stars

Other movers and new 247Sports Composite five-star prospects include Michigan quarterback commit Dylan McCaffrey (Littleton, Colo./Valor Christian), who is the younger brother of Heisman Trophy runner-up Christian McCaffrey of Stanford. Dylan moved up 20 spots to No. 18 overall and is now the nation’s No. 1-ranked pro-style QB prospect.

Lorenzo kind of hinted that it would have been a ND/ Michigan battle but we never offered because Michigan had such a head start. Also this homer/loser states this

Ducksworth said... (original post)

If you had to pick a playoff right now, who would you have?

Clemson, Oklahoma, Alabama, Michigan.

I'm going with the 4 teams I believe have the best rosters on paper.

Eh. I don't see what the big deal is. Homer site picking Michigan to be in playoff. Shocking?

Is it THAT huge of a stretch? The schedule is manageable. And Michigan's roster on defense on paper is pretty ridiculous to be honest. They'll have 10 quality DL to roll through the DL rotation. Wormley is an All-B1G player. Glasgow was as well until he went down and missed the last 2 months of the season. Glasgow is probably the best player on the defense imo. What he can do from a run-stuffing/distrupting the run standpoint doesn't show up on the stat sheet but it's invaluable. Once Glasgow went down the run defense fell off dramatically. Bryan Mone- same thing. Getting him back will be huge for depth purposes. Will be very little drop off and they can spell Glasgow at NT for long stretches now. Last year it was Glasgow or bust at NT. With Mone coming back and Gary coming in ready to play, they have 3 guys they can get minutes at that position and feel comfortable. Last year it was only Glasgow, and then he went down.

Maurice Hurst and Taco Charlton were both graded by Pro Football Focus as the top returning players at their positions in terms of pass rush productivity per snap. Jourdan Lewis was the #1 graded CB in CFB by PFF last year and he's probably the best man to man CB in the country. Jabrill Peppers is a jack of all trades and was graded by PFF as the #7 safety last year. I don't buy the entire "he's a LB" either, he'll still be playing a hybrid role of safety, nickelback, and LB. They also went out and added maybe the best DC in the country in Don Brown. Durkin played a pretty base defense, didn't send a lot of pressures or disguise things or run twists/stunts. Brown might as well be called Dr. Blitz. He likes to sends the kitchen sink and when you have a CB as good as Jourdan Lewis who can pretty much take away the other teams best WR all by himself, really helps the DC get creative with pressures.

LB is a ? mark for sure, but if the DL and Secondary stays healthy and the players gel with Brown, the defense has the potential to be very hellacious.

Yes, it's a fcking stretch you guys didn't beat a single quality team last year. Then in the biggest game of the year you get your doors blown off. Congrats on beating Florida who struggled to complete a forward pass.

Who is your QB gonna be? Wilton Speight lol, please tell me outside of Chesson who is playing WR? Butt is a nice TE but Harbaugh will always force the ball to the TE's. Sure Harbaugh can coach but he had a loaded San Fran roster and had Andrew Luck as a QB so of course he's gonna look good. He's a hell of a coach but you don't have a top 4 roster in college football. Need to remember most of those kids are Brady Hoke players plus you have a brand new defense. Give me a break the hype surrounding Michigan this year is due to what? You guys also have a joke of a schedule OFC so that will help you and you guys will be beating your chest when you beat those teams you should beat by 40 but Wilton Speight as a QB do you really think he can guide a team to the playoffs? I know Harbuagh knows a thing or too about QB coaching but I don't see what makes you guys different from some of the teams I'll list below. How about you beat MSU or OSU first?

Bama
LSU
OSU
Stanford
ND
FSU
Oklahoma
hell even MSU roster over yours

It's also not like you have Urban or Saban as a coach where the coaching is 5x better than the coaches that coach the teams I listed above. You guys have been so average to below average for forever and then one 9 win season with Lord Harbaugh and you're back and running into the playoffs with pretty much Brady Hokes roster. Sorry but I am just not buying it at all. Feel free to bump this post in January and I'll eat as much crow as you would like me too
