It is almost that time of the year again. The Senior Bowl is this weekend and the NFL Combine is right around the corner. If you're as big of a draft junkie as I am then you'll have a lot of fun with this. For those of you who have done this before, you know what to do; if you're new, pick a team(s), the amount of rounds you want to draft, and what rankings you want to use (CBS, Drafttek, Fanspeak, or Bleacher Report).

Good luck and happy drafting.

Fanspeak's On the Clock NFL Mock Draft Simulator

Here is a 4 round mock I did with Pittsburgh:

1.) Jaylon Smith OLB, Notre Dame

2.) Hunter Henry TE, Arkansas

3.) Damontae Kazee CB, San Diego State

4.) Jayron Kearse S, Clemson

I did the Giants and had an all-time great draft class

1. Robert Nkemdiche
2. Jaylon Smith
3. Scooby Wright
4. Sterling Shephard
5. Cyrus Jones
6. Glenn Gronkowski

That would honestly be the sickest draft ever.

2 first round talents and a second round talent in the first 3 rounds? Lol that'd be crazy

I drafted for the Colts and whiffed on the OT prospects but it would still bolster their team:

18: OLB Jaylon Smith - Notre Dame
48: G Vadal Alexander - LSU
82: WR Tyler Boyd - Pitt
113: DT Chris Jones - Mississippi State
143: DT Eddie Vanderdoes - UCLA
207: CB Cyrus Jones - Alabama

I'd sign Romeo to the practice squad for 2 years and see if he develops. Not as much OL help as the colts need but a ton of defensive talent that should help bolster their team.

Unless you count the 1974 Draft, when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected:

1st Rnd: Lynn Swann (HOFer)
2nd Rnd: Jack Lambert (HOFer)
4th Rnd: John Stallworth (HOFer)
5th Rnd: Mike Webster (HOFer)

I'd be surprised if even 2 of the guys in your draft end up in the HOF....

4. CB - Jalen Ramsey - Florida State
34. OLB - Jaylon Smith - ND
67. WR - Will Fuller - ND
98. OLB - Jordan Jenkins - Georgia
171. DE - Bronson Kaufusi - mormons

Drafted for the Broncos:

30: OLB - Jaylon Smith ND
62: WR - Corey Coleman Baylor
94: G - Joshua Garnett Stanford
133: RB - CJ Prosise ND
203: CB - Cyrus Jones Alabama
220: DE - Romeo Okwara ND

This is by far my favorite draft. I think about adding these players to the Broncos roster and it'd be pretty nasty.

Vikings using CBS rankings
1. Shon Coleman OT Auburn
2. Will Fuller WR ND
3. Landon Turner OG NC
4. Sheldon Day DT ND
5. Jayron Kearse SS Clemson
6. Austin Blythe C Iowa
7. Eric McLain G Clemson
7. Jordan Lomax FS Iowa

I would be pretty happy. Addresses the need for o-line to give Bridgewater time to throw and gives him a weapon in Fuller.

Patriots

1st round: butthurt owners
2nd round: Corey Coleman (channeled my inner-Grigson and went WR over everytihng)
3rd round: Derrick Henry (I assume Blount/Jackson are gone)
4th round: Chris Jones the DT from Miss State
5th round: no pick
6th round: Glenn Gronk
7th round: Shumate

Terrible draft. Belichick would never let me draft again. Could have taken Chris Brown in the 7th round who honestly would be a perfect fit in the Deion Branch/Brandon Lafell spot and would have been way better value than Coleman in the 2nd. Pats took 2 Guards last year and a Center the year before and all three guys went in the 4th round...didn't make sense to take an interior guy but there were never any Tackles available when I picked.

They also have more picks than this, but it's not up to date yet. So, I like to think I could have salvaged this draft.

Cincinnati Bengals:
1st, pick 24 - WR COREY COLEMAN, BAYLOR
2nd, pick 24 - CB WILLIAM JACKSON III, HOUSTON
3rd, pick 24 - OLB JOSHUA PERRY, OHIO STATE
4th, pick 24 - CB KEIVARAE RUSSELL, NOTRE DAME
5th, pick 22 - SS JAYRON KEARSE, CLEMSON
6th, pick 24 - DE ROMEO OKWARA, NOTRE DAME
7th, pick 24 - DT D.J. READER, CLEMSON

I was hoping Jaylon would be there in the first, as the Bengals' biggest need is at OLB IMO, but he was gone, so I went "best available." Drafting Coleman means they have a much better version of Marvin Jones, and can let one of Jones/Sanu go in free agency. They can also finally get rid of Brandon Tate, as Coleman can be a PR/KR guy.

I took Russell in the 4th because I thought I had missed out on Jayron Kearse, and figured that taking Russell and cross-training him as a S was better than reaching or waiting another round. But, Kearse was actually there for my 5th rounder, and that's okay because now the Bengals can let both Adam Jones and Leon Hall go on their way. Kirkpatrick-Denard-Jackson-Russell isn't a bad 4-man group at CB at all.

I took Romeo as a homer pick late, as he can be a developmental pass-rusher behind Dunlap and Johnson, and in case Gilberry doesn't get re-signed. Romeo could be exactly what Gilberry was for the defense.

There has been a lot of homer picks IMO. Not mad but some of you guys know that our ND guys will not be getting drafted where some of you selected them.

I know for my draft of the Colts I really looked at team needs and used that to base my decision on who to select.

I would like to see more realistic drafts so we can have some discussions on this.

Based on the CBS rankings, I took him in the right area. He's been getting good reviews lately and is playing himself into a 6th or 7th round pick.

I called it a homer pick because I didn't recognize the one DE that was ranked ahead of him when I drafted lol. The Bengals really do need a guy like Okwara that can spell Dunlap/Johnson and take Gilberry's spot, because Gilberry isn't gonna be worth re-signing if they can get a guy like Romeo late in the draft.

You think Sullivan is on the downswing of his career? Or did you just see value?

Sullivan missed all of last year after having 2 surgeries on his back (the second one was after a setback in rehab) and will turn 31 before the season starts. Joe Berger filled in really well (was the highest rated center by PFF) but he will turn 34 before the season starts. So picking Ryan Kelly gives them some youth at C (Berger can play both G and C so he can be kept as a swing player).

ETA: The Vikings needs help all along the line. Kalil hasn't played well, Loadholt missed last year with injury and is getting old, and the G position opposite of Fusco has been a revolving door. If the Vikings want Bridgewater to improve they need to give him better protection.

I am but I'm not allowing needs to force a reach, if that makes sense. If my plan was to pick up my tackle with the 2nd pick and the highest rated tackle is a 4th rounder, then I look for best available.

I imagine that is what constantly happens on draft day, you build your board with all contingencies and then as it plays out, some scenario you didn't expect pops up and you have to determine how you'll play your hand..
