We've also been in the running for a bunch of kids from Fresno the last few years and we end up the bridesmaid every time.

But that is how recruiting works. ND left impressions. So much so that some of those kids that ND was a bridesmaid for told Kelly he should visit Notre Dame. Maybe ND gets Kelly, maybe they don't but they left an impact and that will pay off eventually.

This is why you don't give up on an area. It's the same thing with Ben Davis. He probably isn't coming to ND but he loved his visit and will tell other players about it who might be more open to coming to Notre Dame.

some other good news is that oklahoma is having 2 PA juco linebackers ov'ing this weekend...1 already committed today before getting there...the other is likely to commit as well....it's crazy the juco has so many players that go div 1 there....however living in the area you HEAR NOTHING about anyone of them....they have 4 players offered or committed to oklahoma

What JUCO?

Can someone comment on how Oklahoma could possibly be more attractive than ND for someone not remotely close to either school? If you're not planning to major in meteorology (for which Oklahoma has the best program in the nation, a fact I know because I am a weather geek), I don't get it.

Like someone stated, more football focused, but Bob Stoops has also developed talent for the NFL in his tenure in Norman. Oklahoma just made the playoffs and have been just as good, if not better than Notre Dame as of late.

Oklahoma is a traditional powerhouse in college football with excellent tradition and a great fanbase. I mean outside of the weather and lower graduation rates, there isn't much to not like about the program.

You add in talent from your hometown already on campus, then it's comfortable for a Caleb Kelly to choose them. I mean, 90% of college decisions come down to where the kid feels most comfortable at.

Well if you love Oklahoma so much, TP, maybe you should marry it.

Now that this board seems to be working again, Loy and Wiltfong both CB'ed Kelly to Oklahoma. Does Brian Kelly still have his in-home visit this week?

This post from the Oklahoma board seems to fit what probably happened. Hopefully BK's visit can swing him.
I've been harping on it for awhile, but Caleb Kelly and his situation with Notre Dame is a fluid one. He is all about life after football. He is mature beyond his years. Last week, the Irish did pose a scare. Even as such that Kelly talked to his coach about maybe flipping his decision to Notre Dame. The Irish staff even pushed their media to begin to ask to publicize their momentum in hopes he caught up int. All of that was halted last week as the Sooners' coaching staff all but locked him up after the in-home visit last Thursday. If Oklahoma can survive Brian Kelly's in-home on Tuesday, then he will be faxing papers to Norman on February 3rd.

All about life after football so he's considering Oklahoma? I guess he wants to work at a Jiffy Lube in Tulsa after his football career is over.

Seems like the quoted post calls for quite a bit of speculation. Not that I don't believe something like that happened, it just seems like whoever posted that shouldn't (and likely can't) know what the ND staff is telling its reporters to do and for what purpose.

if life after football is important to him, why would he be considering a school with one of the lowest grad rates of scholarship players? A few years ago, oklahoma grad rate for scholly players was a dismal 47%.

Something doesnt jive here....either someone has seriously mislead this kid into thinking oklahoma is powerhouse in terms of post-football life, or he is just saying things that he thinks ppl want to hear, or he simply doesnt know what he is talking about. Either way, i find it a bit concerning.

Lackawanna. Fun fact -- there's a guy on their staff in a somewhat prominent position that has never played a down of football.

Thanks, not surprised that Lakawanna doesn't get much/any press. I didn't even know that school existed, let alone had a football team, until about 3 years ago.

has there been any indication as to why Oklahoma seems to be in the driver's seat for Kelly now?

Is the relationships he built early on too much to overcome?

No inside information to share, just a gut feeling. Caleb Kelly has favored Oklahoma all along. His Notre Dame visit and the in-home visit by ND coaches gave him something serious to think about, but in the end he is going to go to Oklahoma where his heart has been for quite some time.

Too bad we're going to miss out on this recruitment, but the coaches did all they could. Caleb Kelly just isn't feeling Notre Dame. His mind is saying "Notre Dame, High Graduation Rate, Butkus Winners", but his heart is saying "Oklahoma". He's going to go with his heart.

it'll be interesting to hear Loy's remarks that he was planning on cutting loose if he didn't sign with ND that he was ranting about last week.

Agree. I will be a very happy camper if we get him, but this seems to be like a lot of others where there was a favorite and we finally got neck and neck and then the bubble popped. Like playing your favorite video game. You get a new one, enjoy it for a while, get tired of it and back back to your tried and true.

This is exactly why you don't get excited by all of the rumors you hear the last few weeks of the recruiting season. A couple of days ago it was a sure thing he was going to ND. Now it's a sure thing he's going to OU. It's almost worth not paying attention to recruiting until NSD, but we're ND fans. We crave the drama.

I would love to know a ratio of how often there is a legitimate change in the recruitment, as opposed to how often it is simply one site or another drumming up interest with a "source" that "feels good" when that really isn't the case.
