Is Jones good enough to play the waiting game this long? I've never understood waiting until the final hour to commit somewhere if you aren't a clear-cut 5* talent.

It's definitly rolling the dice if you aren't careful, but he seems like he comes from a smart family and is probably as aware as we are regarding their numbers and needs.

parents typically win out if they put their foot down. Which I am not a fan of, at all. Have to let a kid make the decision for himself and to live with it.

Horseshat... would you not want to be part of your child's college decision? I sure as hell will be part of my kids decision, as my parents were part of mine. The role of guidance is one of the pillars of being a parent. You are supposed to be there for your kid and help guide them into good decisions. If parents always "let kids make the decisions and live with it" we would have a world of drunk kids partying in their parents basements. There is a reason that parents have to sign off on letters of intent if they are under 18, it's because college recruiting is a dirty game of smart adults all trying to trick kids into going to their school so they can leach off of their athletic talents for their own personal gain.... that's sad, but absolutely true. That is why most of these kids need a responsible adult guiding them through the layers of absolute snake oil that college coaches are selling them. They are impressionable and frankly... stupid kids. Why you think they shouldn't be advised by adults is beyond me...

What other alternatives are there at this point? It's not like they froze their LB big board while waiting on Jones. They're still recruiting and checking on prospects committed to other schools.

I think I'm the only person here that doesn't care if we land Jones or not. Just not impressed with his film and wouldn't be surprised if ND told him no and took Jonah Morris and Caleb Kelly.

Jonah Morris heading to Blue Mountain State at this rate.

looking at our depth chart, we need MLB's, not just LBs. Neither of those guys is a MLB.

If we were going to get McCullough, I may agree. But to me, he's certainly good enough to develop as a backup MLB.

I'd take Jones over Morris regardless and not think twice about it.

Jones isn't McCullough but he's a very solid LB.

Then why does ISD keep talking about him ND is a very real threat to land him?

Jones or Morris? The last thing I heard from ISD about Morris was on the podcast, which was before the news on him. Multiple sites have said Morris is out because of grades

Offers from Florida, LSU, Stanford, Michigan, and Oklahoma...I havent seen his film, but if all those schools like him this would be a big get.

It's would absolutely be a nice get. Again, this kid isn't a McCullough type game changer but he is an athletic LB that plays good highschool competition, from a talent rich state.

We don't know that. I would agree that I coveted McCulloch more but it doesn't mean Jones won't end up being a great player. Let's just hope the three recruits we expect, fax the ink on NSD.

We do know that. Right now as highschool seniors, one is a game changer and one isn't. I'm not talking about where they could be as college seniors, I'm simply talking about the here and now.

I can't find senior stats yet, but Jonathon Jones had 115 tackles, 7 sacks and FR as a junior. I found 50 tackles, 19 sacks for McCulloch unless those were incomplete stats.

But I'll be honest, I still covet McCulloch greatly. He hits like a mac truck but Jones may turn out to be a great player for us.

Looks more athletic than I remembered. Would be a very nice addition to a very young and athletic linebacker corps.

I respect what you're saying but there's a reason the rankings are the way they are across the board. Don't get me wrong, I've been talking about how good a prospect Jones is in other threads. However, there's a clear difference in skill.

Here's to hoping Jones is the better college player since he'll be Irish and McCullough won't....

I think it was Coach D or somebody else from the BGI podcast in the past who mentioned that Jones' biggest knock is his lack of size. They still loved him as a prospect

I rarely put any thought into HS stats. For all we know those numbers for McCullough were solo tackles OR he played in a bunch of blow outs. He may have averaged only 2-3 quarters per game.

McCulloch is a monster, and I'd take him over any that we're in the running for (Davis would be wash), but Jones definitely looks like the real deal too. I personally think McCulloch would fit best in a 3-4 anyway, but will almost certainly succeed in any scheme, Jones is a 4-3 LB all day.
