The men herein have been voted upon by the general board, and were deemed worthy of the title "Notre Dame Man." But, because everyone around here is difficult, and because we can't have nice things, it will be recognized as the "IE Hall of Fame."

In some cases, there may be players that were designated with the title before the voting process was enacted. Those players must be voted upon officially before being included here.

Each player will be voted upon by individual posters of this website, and those posters may have varying criteria in deciding their vote. At least 75% of the votes cast must be in favor for the player to be elected.

This thread will be kept clean of voting and debate. It is solely for the purpose of enshrining those that have earned the title.

The only exceptions for thread content: Votes may be proposed here, but a separate thread for the actual vote must then be created. Said thread may be linked here. But the actual discussion must be kept clear, minus congratulatory posts and fond memories once votes are completed and debate is concluded.

Use the Manti Te'o thread as a model for other nominees. They should all follow the "IE HOF Poll: ________ format. You must include a poll with "Notre Dame Man YES" and "Notre Dame Man NO" . You must make votes public or the thread will be deleted. You should also have the poll close 7 days after creation.

Obviously they have to be in our vault of player threads otherwise there's no place to apply the title. Thought of this because I was going to nominate Terry Hanratty.

Yes the assumption is that we are doing this for players that have profiles (initially). We will come up with something later on for older players.

It will never happen and IMO is a disservice. Doing a little homework on older players helps educate those unfamiliar who those who helped set the standards for today's players.

They don't need to have their own thread to be recognized. I will be creating a post for anyone that passes a vote in this thread, so that this thread, itself, is the IE Hall of Notre Dame Men.

When I had a little more time on my hands (before doing vbookie game) I stared the thread Goshen Gipper Memorial Notre Dame History . There I made profiles on the following players who I think deserve the title.

RB Autry Denson
LB Bob Crable

I created a thread for Manti Te'o. Please use that thread as a model for how to format your threads for your nominees.

All debate on Manti should be in his dedicated thread.

I#1: I agree if that's what it takes [or if anyone really cares] but I doubt that the vast majority of IErs really know anything about most of these oldsters other than they played championship/AA quality ball.

The three guys I mentioned were mentioned because they were not only great ballplayers but I knew them to be outstanding people. Most of the oldsters even I don't know what quality of a person they were/are.

I voted yes on Manti because he is a great person who led in an unusual civilized [even spiritual in his case] way. Some of the other guys mentioned ...?

Alan Page IMO deserves to be the first Pre 1990 player to get voted on.

Just a little info on the great.

Someone make a thread for my favorite player of all time and the only ND jersey I own:

JEFF SAMARDZIJA - THE SHARK!

Football and Baseball, but did he graduate?

Samardzija accepted an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Notre Dame, where he played for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team from 2003 to 2006, and the Fighting Irish baseball team from 2004 to 2006. He made his first impact at Notre Dame as a right-handed pitcher for the baseball team, finishing second in the Big East Conference in both earned run average (ERA) (2.95) and opponents' batting average (.209), and being named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine. He continued to play baseball at Notre Dame until he was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 5th round (149th overall) of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft.

In football, he was a reserve for his first two seasons, catching a total of 24 passes. He first started at the 2005 Insight Bowl at the end of his sophomore season. He emerged as a star in the 2005 season, ending the regular season with 77 catches - 15 of them for touchdowns - for 1215 yards and making numerous All-America Teams.

He set single-season school records in both receiving yardage and touchdown receptions. Samardzija caught a touchdown pass in each of Notre Dame's first eight games in 2006, giving him the school record for consecutive games with a touchdown reception. Samardzija made 78 catches for 1,017 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games in the 2006 season to finish as the all-time Fighting Irish leader in reception yards with 2,593.[3] He made the Football Writers Association of America All-America Team following the 2006 season.
