honestly feel bad for this guy.

he went about everything the right way and didn't draw any negative attention to himself......just didn't work out for him after he made the one big mistake despite getting out to a decent start in 2014

Dunno how anyone can really feel bad for him. It's not like he was an NFL caliber QB, and he likely never would be due to his size and durability issues. He got a great education for free essentially and he got to play quite a bit of football to boot. He also got a 2nd chance after screwing up in 2013. That may sound like sour grapes, but if anything I'm a bit jealous he got the opportunities that he did. A lot of fans would kill to have the chance to play.

The biggest lie is that he is "immensely talented." Crappy leader and teammate, decent player, overall below average QB for an elite team.

After that fourth down touchdown vs Stanford and the fourth and seventeen conversion vs FSU, I thought we were witnessing a legend growing in front of our eyes.

Chances are I'll forget all about him in a few years.

This. People get being a great athlete and being a great talent confused. I saw Everett's basketball films. Dude is a tremendous athlete but he didn't use it on the football field. He should have played baseball because he's not the leader you need at QB or PG.

People have to keep in mind he was a 3 star QB.

Alot of hate in here for a guy who gave us some great wins. He made mistakes, he saw the writing on the wall, he took his best shot to be on a contender and now it's over.

I wish EG well from here on out, I hope he has a great post football life and I appreciate the fond memories (I'll try to forget the bad ones).

Exactly.

Looks really petty. Numerous other players leave to play a graduate season elsewhere and we're always wishing them the best. People are butt hurt Golson left, and now want to act like he wasn't good anyway.

Had he stayed, just one bad game for ND and he would have been booed off the field. I understand 100% not wanting to be a part of that. Continuing with the cheap shots after he left is wrong.

I love all the stuff he did while he was here (except that damn ASU game - still hurts today), but he isnt here anymore and at this point its a 'Zero f*cks given-type' of attitude towards him from me.

EG's performance for FSU this year seems to vindicate BK from a coaching perspective, although maybe not a recruiting perspective. For years I was wondering why our offense wasn't better. After seeing what Kizer was able to do for most of this year, I think it is pretty simple: BK put a lot of faith in a guy who just wasn't a great QB.

That's not meant sourly. I don't have any animosity for EG. He just wasn't the right prospect to bet on, as it turns out.

Different circumstances I think when comparing to guys that left for their 5th year. Most guys leave because they aren't going to see the field. He was going to see the field in some capacity, even before the Zaire injury. He was at least neck and neck with Zaire coming out of Spring, by most accounts, if not ahead of him. He gave the coaches the impression he was sticking around, all the while he was planning his departure. The players had to break the news to BK. In retrospect it feels like the 2014 season was a waste, Golson came back to go 8-5 while we would have been better served getting Zaire those snaps. He definitely took valuable snaps away from our guys in the Spring. That hurt, especially given the way injuries occurred this year.

I'm not butthurt he left, I'm disappointed he didn't leave sooner to be honest. I was never a fan, and I believe the Golson era was wasted time. People point to the 2012 season, but it's not like Tommy wouldn't have gotten us to 11-1 or 12-0 behind that defense. We certainly wouldn't have done worse than 8-5 with Zaire at QB in 2014. I feel like things would have been better if he stayed with North Carolina.

1). Everett Golson is a nice enough fellow who made some young fellow mistakes. We need to give him a break on that.
2). Everett Golson is an elite athlete who when paired with Coach's offense and NDs great athletes could and did put up some great numbers, and won a bunch of games {we need to remember that Coach's offense and NDs great athletes also got Tommy some great numbers and won a bunch of games.}
3). When things got tough, Everett sometimes succeeded and sometimes failed, even catastrophically. There were aspects about playing QB that he just was not good at. His FSU performance showed that this was basically on him [though not evilly on purpose], and not on Coach.
4). People who have been all over Coach in the past while these catastrophic failures were going on, were wrong. Coach did the best he could with the flawed pieces he had to work with.
5). Everett Golson was at FSU because ND finally got a better guy. Malik Zaire is better at being QB than Everett Golson. So is Deshone Kizer. This year's eye-test spectacular offense shows what Coach's offense can do with a QB who doesn't get shook up, sees the field better, and can run at appropriate planned times.
6). Deshone Kizer is a QB. Malik Zaire is a QB. Coach Kelly is an offensive genius. Let's enjoy those facts. Everett Golson is a pretty good young fellow, an elite athlete, and a mediocre QB when on the biggest stages. Let's root for him to have a good life beyond football.

Anyone who can play concert piano must have a good soul.

Please point out the posts yesterday that have "a lot of hate" in them. Maybe I read over them too quickly, but few (if any) personal shots and mostly just fair/accurate critiques of his shortcomings as a player.

Fair, I went back through and perhaps my first read left me with a sour taste. It's not as bad as I thought. I assumed proper protocol now that we obviously have better QBs on our roster, would be to wish him well and be happy we've turned the page.

I was a Golson apologist, when I watched his HS highlight tape, I was certain he'd take us to a natty. He just looked so poised and his arm strength was unbelievable.

It turns out, he's not a great leader and he wasn't a great QB, just a very athletic young man who did not fit what Kelly wanted. Golson needed a Sumlin coach, someone who would let him improvise and run simpler schemes.

Kelly wanted a conductor, Golson was an improv Jazz musician. Continue on with the fair/accurate critiques, I can admit I overreacted on my initial read.

The way he left is clearly up for criticism. I'll leave the rest of your comments alone.

What? Reading comprehension much? You guys are saying there are a lot of hate. I specifically bolded that part. And then I said I didn't see much of anything that could be considered hate.

So in short, for whatever reason you road in high and mighty on your horse to scold people on this site as "petty"... but can't actually point out the offending posts, because they don't exist.

I expect better. I really do.

Thank you. Contrasting this thoughtful response with rocket's BS is pretty hilarious.

Crappy leader and teammate

Great arm and average everything else.

Chances are I'll forget all about him in a few years.

He should have played baseball because he's not the leader you need at QB or PG.

Forget about who?

You want to pick nits about the broad definition of 'hate'? I didn't actually use that word by the way, but like VDP, I thought in the context of about 10 posts that's enough mud being thrown at Golson for my liking.

You think it's all above board and fair game. I disagree, EG deserves better.

This wasn't anything outrageously out of line but it's still petty in mind to say some of that stuff about Golson. Why anyone would get that upset about pointing this out?
