I'm with you; I'm really really confident that McGlinchey will be great and could easily see him surpass Stanley as a lineman in both college and the NFL. But Stanley has really rare athleticism. The kind of athleticism that got Tyron Smith (to whom Ronnie is often compared) drafted in the top 10 at just barely hitting 300 pounds. McGlinchey is just nasty. I don't care where Harry puts big Mike, he's just gonna destroy whoever is opposite of him. I really want to see Big Mike against Joey Bosa in the bowl game.

Except, what if Mcglinchey dominates Bosa so thoroughly that Mike starts hearing noise to enter this draft? He is eligible (Jr/rSph) I'm actually surprised he hasn't gotten any attention thus far.

I'm a little skeptical of using that singular metric as a reliable basis for who was a better offensive lineman this year for us. First of all its just pass blocking. But also, it doesn't seem to take into account who faced superior defensive ends, whether someone had help from a running back, tight end, or guard, and it certainly doesn't make special provisions for getting targeted by a particularly nasty stunt. I also wonder if Kizer created pressures more often attributed to Stanley as a rookie simply not having blindside awareness, whereas he might not have had the problem to the right side. Also if you look at their graph it seemed like plenty of teams had players who I wouldn't think of as elite future 1st round draft picks with pretty great scores. I haven't dissected the line play to know, I just don't personally know that I can draw too much from that stat. Unless I'm missing something.

.... whereas those stats are doubtless close to accurate, ALL our guys were playing at NFL-high draft levels --- "even" Ronnie's numbers amount to less than one problem per game.

I think most mocks have him in the Top 10. You would know better then I but some 'experts' I had read mentioned McGlinchey as turning out better then Ronnie.

Either way, a win/win for BK.

It's funny how things get framed. The message here should have been, "Wow... ND's lowest pass block success rate was 97%".

I remember reading that Stanley has the best pass block success rate out of the top 4 offensive lineman in the draft. lol

I'm sure the stats are accurate. I just don't know if they tell the whole picture.

They don't. First of all it's only half the game, the other half being run blocking. Also interior players, especially C's, aren't going one one one in pass blocking situations as often. Usually a part of a double team or looking for a blitzer up the middle. Mainly only a 3-4 defense is a C solely responsible for a one on one matchup. Also, some of Stanely'smpenalties were more on Martin and Kizer, per Kelly. Martin was probably the weak link this year. Hopefully he can have a good Senior Bowl because he's not a high round draft pick off this season.

Strange thing to say, but since ALL our "other" guys have BETTER stats than Decker, ND doesn't need him. ... or maybe Harry would have made him All-World.

I clearly remember on one sack Stanley gave up, Kizer ran right into the guy Stanley was blocking.

A second sack Stanley gave up was due to Nelson getting blown up. Nelson got blown up and pushed right into Stanley's legs, basically clipping Stanley which caused him to fall over Nelson.

Don't the Giants already have Dan Fox? Also, I'd be surprised if Stanley fell to the Giants.

Seriously, who does this news surprise? BK had to recruit him to come back THIS YEAR. There was almost no way he wouldn't go pro unless there was some sort of major problem
