The actor that plays Bran did an interview, and confirmed that he will use his powers to see the past, the present, and future. Basically, that's how we'll see the ToJ and whatnot, which was already pretty clear. But the confirmation is good, and seems to me conformation that we'll for sure learn about R+L=J, which means theres more evidemce that Jon Snow back.

And the odds of TWoW being released prior to S6 dwindle with each passing day.

Do we know if tWOW is getting released prior to the show? I don't want to watch the show before reading the book...

Same here. There have been some promising signs that GRRM has recently submitted a final transcript to his editor, but nothing substantial. If HarperCollins doesn't officially start publicizing TWoW within the next the few weeks, the odds of it getting releases before the next season will plummet.

I don't mind waiting on the book for a few months but if it's going to be another year I suppose I'd rather watch the show. I just hope they make an official announcement about the release date so I can make an informed decision...

I forgot to add that he also said that they left him out of the last season for several reasons, one of which being that they can jump right into his newly mastered powers, rather than show his training (which I think the book will have a large portion of his training). He compared it to the way that Luke is only shown for a short period training with Yoda, whereas he shows up as fully trained master in Return of the Jedi.

I was in the thread waiting all night. I don't think the series gets finished.

So depressing.

And infuriating, because he recognizes that it's his own issue, and wants to sound apologetic... but I don't buy it as sincere, considering that he just keeps doing everything BESIDES working on ASoIaF (or at least it feels that way), even though he acknowledges that his side projects eat all of his time.

He never cared to beat the show to the punch. Either he's defeated, or he just doesn't care about the masses lol.

Agreed. My favorite part is when he says "I worked on the book a couple of days ago..." like that's some kind of achievement. We all have jobs. We do our jobs yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We don't do them when we get around to it.

That's thread was amazing despite the wet fart of an announcement. Like 3500 posts or something lol.

I think the fans have basically guessed all the big plot points he intended to use because it took so damn long. Now he wants to surprise people and of course he can't do that very easily without being inconsistent. I'm not optimistic we will have anything before the end of the year.

with book confirmed to be behind the show, he should just forget "book 7" and power thru with the next book (6+7=6th and last)being the last of the series.

I still think that they will ultimately put the finale on the big screen...if they can contractually.

This is not book canon. Should it be in the other thread?

This is now the all-purpose thread since the show is caught up.

And I think most of that is cannon, coming from "The World of Ice and Fire"

I can't help but feel like the show might be influencing the direction of the books in a small way, maybe even without GRRM being fully conscious of it, and I hate that.

The plus side is that I won't have to listen to people complaining about the show changing things; GRRM pulled the rug out from under them here.

I'm with you. This post from GK is actually the first thing I thought of when I saw the article:

This may very well be the first example of GRRM working hard to change things up now that the show has shown its own cards in some of the changes it's made.

(Or, it's just an inevitability that things like this will happen since the show has already ignored/merged so many characters.)

But we were told all along that the broad strokes of the show and the books would be the same, which I actually think is a bigger problem in terms of spoilers. While we can't make any specific plot conclusions about the books from the events of the show, I think it's safe to assume that characters that are either excluded or killed early in the show won't be major players in the books' endgame.

Right, that's what we were told. But as GK's post says, and as I've gathered from this newest GRRM interview, the worry is that GRRM is now trying to change things about whatever end-game he had planned so as to diverge from the show. It's something that would fit his personality lol.

I don't think it's actually going to happen that way. But it also wouldn't be a shock to see some huge twist that changes the ending of the books, relative to what the show runners think they know about the end.

Right, the show can't have spoiled anything if the books are now deviating from their original endgame. Or if the show did spoil anything, it was by coincidence. It's now unclear how much of the endgame GRRM has just thought up.

I'm not overly concerned about this issue. GRRM has already showna willingness to make giant changes to the story mid stream, expanding the series from 3 books to 6 to 7, completely scrapping the 5 year time jump. Even if a character doesn't play a giant role in the end game there still has to be a reason that in GRRMs version they are still alive.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to find out someday that GRRM purposely gave D&D a different version that what he had planned in the event of something like this happening.

maybe the show this upcoming season is loaded with flashbacks/retellings (I,e. TOJ, etc) in order to give GRRM time to get TWOW done?
couple spoilers yes...but not a ton of em.
he should just focus on finishing the whole damn thing and putting it into a huge book 6.

So anyone buying into, even a little bit, that Meera and Jon are twins?

I remember reading about that a couple of years ago. Has there been a resurgence in that theory? They certainly rock the same hair in the show...
