SEC was 1-3 last week against non-conference foes and the one win struggled to score 13 against 3 win GT. They will drop over half their bowl games again this year even though their bowl tie-ins are very advantageous geographically and from a level of competition standpoint.

How they claim 9 in the top 40 can only mean the stats are flawed driving that analysis.

I disagree wholeheartedly. OSU's weak schedule is because the Big 10 sucked this year. That's not their fault. UNC CHOSE to play two FCS schools. FCS schools should never, ever, ever, ever be on a Power Five program's schedule, let alone two in the same year. Ohio State did not play a hard schedule, absolutely correct. But Hawaii, Norther Illinois, and Western Michigan are stratospheres above North Carolina A&T and Delaware. North Carolina A&T? Are you fucking kidding me?

The premise of this discussion includes UNC beating Clemson, with all the marbles on the table. Beating the #1 team in the country should count for a little bit more than nothing.

Also have a like opponent in Illinois - UNC won 48-14, OSU won 28-3 - edge UNC

OSU's only ranked win is over Michigan, UNC's would be over Clemson - Edge UNC

Most recent loss - November 21st for OSU, September 3 for UNC - Edge UNC

Easier "student" component of "student-athlete" responsibilities- Draw

Better ratings driver - edge OSU

Ergo - ESPN hacks will carry water for OSU and bash the potential one loss winner of a premier football conference.

And where is the outrage when the SEC schedules D-2 schools in mid November? At least UNC front loaded it.... and took on a B1G and SEC opponent with the balance of the non-conference slate.

No f-ing way OSU gets in over UNC.

... or it was the bad teams that were losing. With the exception of Florida (who we would all agree is a top 40 team I'm sure?) the teams that lost -- South Carolina and Kentucky -- are both terrible and not in that 9. So...

We would lose 8 out of 10 times IMO.

Do you really thinks so? Being from OH, all my family are buckeye fans, and knowing one of their players I watched most of their games also. I was not impressed with them. They do have some amazing talent, but they were really not cohesive at all. I think the lack of a deep threat has absolutely killed their offense this year. When they made their run to the championship the deep threat is what opened up the game for Zeke to do his stuff - I haven't seen that at all this year. Their most impressive game was the Michigan game and I think Michigan's defense was overrated all year long.

I truly think a ND/tOSU bowl game would be split right down the middle.

The SEC didn't lose half their bowl games last year btw. Also, I don't know if I would thump my chest for S. Carolina and Ky losing to Clemson and Louisville. Florida I would give you as their offense has been in a deep dive since Grier got popped.

Well since we want to keep the conversation to the better SEC teams, the seven ranked SEC teams went 2-5 last year in their bowl games.

I stopped caring about stats and metrics in college football after they convinced me that our 2012 defense had a solid chance at stopping Alabama.

Debbie Downer: let's have a smoke.

You'll die soon anyway.

Stop harassing people for having opinions. I noticed you chasing GKirish around chastising him for being realistic about the BC game and our performance.

Let's be big boys here and not try and make everyone play by your rules.

As already pointed out, the ranked teams had an embarrassing 2-5 record - which obviously was ignored by preseason pollsters that still put 8 SEC teams in the Top 25.

So Car beat Miami in the Duck Commander Bowl 24-21 in a matchup of powerhouse 6-6 teams.
Arkansas romped Texas 31-7 in the Advocare V100 Texas Bowl (another matchup of 6-6 teams)
Tennessee beats Iowa 45-28 in the Taxslayer Bowl (which they entered with a 6-6 record)
Florida beats ECU 28-20 in the Birmingham Bowl (which they entered with a 6-5 record)

So your non-ranked teams carried the day, congratulations! Good thing they all schedule a cupcake non-conference slate so they can be bowl eligible!

Frankly if you are in a power 5 and schedule D1AA teams they shouldn't count to a win total. Everyone bags on ND for not playing a conference slate of games (which is bullshit) but then turn around schedule E. Charleston Beauty School.

Hyprocrites run rampant to prove points in this circle.

Drop any ranked team 10 slots any time they play a D2 school. See how long they keep scheduling them, particularly in mid November the week before their biggest rivalry. It should really count less than a bye week.

What I don't get about the D2 scheduling is there are just as many pathetic D1 schools you can destroy and not have to hear about how our scheduled a D2 opponent. Man up, schedule Central Michigan or something.

The thing about FBS scheduling is that in any given year those teams CAN be good. They still have recruited, scholarship players. So you might schedule Temple thinking it's a nice and easy, local tune-up game... and then you get wrecked like Penn State because "oh shit, Temple won 10 games this year."

especially when games are scheduled 4/5 years in advance. This year's PSU schedule was put together when they presumed they were gonna be playing walk-on's due to the death penalty - hence the Temple, Buffalo, SDSU, Rutgers (then non conference) slate

Someone recently told me that the way for FCS/1-AA schools to make the jump to FBS/1-A is that they have to play a certain number of 1-A teams. So another argument that schools can use for scheduling the cupcakes is that they are helping teams make the jump to the big leagues. But I agree that a team's consideration for rankings should take a severe hit if they destroy a 1-AA team 65-3 with their second string in before halftime.

It's a mixed bag, sure would love to see all P5 teams play all FBS schools, but the FCS schools need the money they receive from such games.

Maybe mandate that if you schedule a FBS school and want it to count towards wins, you have to schedule 2 P5 OOC games with one being an away game. Probably a scheduling nightmare though.

Our SOS remains solid in the near future. We pick MSU up next year with Duke, NC state, VaTech, Miami and Syracuse as our 5 ACCs, We open with what should be a better Texas, play Navy, Stanford and USC and our "cupcakes" being Army and Nevada.

This schedule is not only tough opponent wise but travel wise too. We play Syracuse at MetLife, Navy in Jacksonville, Army (shamrock series) in San Antonio and of course end the season @USC.

We also play @NC State before Stanford at home.. We know NC State is a trap team.

Then in 2017 we essentially replace Texas with Georgia. That should be a great atmosphere in South Bend.

Honestly I have a hard time buying the charity case for playing FCS schools. I don't think Alabama plays Charleston Southern out of charity either. It's a week off/breather/free home game for the big boys.

Fuck that. My Little League team needed money, but we didn't go playing the High School squad.

That's been the SOP lately, which is ridiculous.

I get tired of getting talked down to by others who have different opinions than I do around here. It is getting fucking tiresome.

Even worse when they are supposedly "stand up" members.

...I don't know. I think Urban has shown he can get ready to play bowl games as well as anyone...ever. Pains me to say so...don't like him, but his teams play big. If I look at their D...and how they are playing...I think they have the advantage. I think offensively its a near draw.

I'd love ND to smack them...Right now if ND draws Ohio Sate I'm guessing Urbie is favored by 5 or more...and going off of recent and more distant history, I think Urbie delivers more than not against team 127.

The reality is that Urban and Saban are two of the best ever. I don't think it's even debatable.
